So I know that this is from 8 years ago but here’s a theory: Let’s just assume that monoko and monoe are sisters. As we know, Monoko died in a car crash. She didn’t see the red stoplight and crossed the street, After that she got hit by a car. And now here’s my theory: Monoko was madotsuki’s childhood friend and madotsuki was with her when the accident happened and Monoko died. Monoe didn’t know anything about her sister’s death because she wasn’t there at the moment. When she found out about monko’s death, she thought it was madotsuki’s fault (but it wasn’t), because she was the one that was with Monoko at that point. and even though monoe and madotsuki got along before, monoe started to despise madotsuki and wish her death. Later in her life, madotsuki got r@p3d, which made her depressed and she became a hikikomori (if I spelled that right). But that’s a different theory (which I still think sounds kinda plausible). Monoe was happy about that, because she thought that madotsuki had finally learned her lesson. The last thing madotsuki saw of monoe was the smile we also saw in the video. Madotsuki can’t get over The guilt and anger because on one side, she thinks that it’s her fault that Monoko died, but on the other side, she thinks that monoe lied to her by saying that it was her fault. Because of that, she gets haunted by the memory of her best friend dying (which is resembled by the Monoko scene where she kinda has many arms and stuff) and the memory about monoe being happy about madotsuki’s depression and her trauma, even in her dreams. I hope that that theory kinda makes sense, if not you can just correct me!! Also English isn’t my first language so sorry if the text had any spelling mistakes! :,D
at the monoko event, she seems to be without shoes, right? in Japan, when people enter their homes, they take off their shoes so as not to take the impurities from the street into their home, and when a person in Japan is going to commit suicide, it is common for them to take off their shoes so they don't take the impurities of their life after death or something like that, my theory is that monoko threw herself in front of a car and madotsuki witnessed the scene, only she didn’t do anything to stop her death, so monoe started to despise madotsuki for not stopping monoko from committing suicide, l sorry if the text or something was strange, it's because I'm using the translator!
I know it's like two years has passed, but I have my own small theory regarding Yume Nikki Girls. I've noticed that almost all characters that resemble Madotsuki seem to shun her: Mafurako upon interaction will sometimes ditch Madotsuki and go back to her area (or "home") unless she is a snowman, Kamakurako is sleeping and beyond reacting to cat effect she doesn't do much, Poniko always has averted eyes and should Madotsuki annoy her with the lightswitch (which could be seen either as a prank or a way to get her attention) Poniko will snap and become Uboa, Monoe seems to tease Madotsuki by being "unreachable". The only characters who don't explicitly show signs of shunning is Monoko who is dead and Oni who is locked up (Yuki Onna might count, but idk). I think Madotsuki tried to make friends with these people at some point, but eventually gave up and developed anxiety as a result, fearing it will bring the same result (Toriningen are also ties to this given that they're much more aggressive and appear to be like upperclassmen to Mado)
Okay, this is a weird theory but... maybe Monoko and Monoe were kidnapped? Because you can't get to them until you kill that man. If you believe the raXX theory maybe they represent Madotsuki being kidnapped.
I think that Monoe was hit by a car or something and Madodtzuki saw it. Because she looks like a complete mess while using traffic light effect. This is probably the her sight on what could happen. Also the white world reminds me of a hospital
Didn't find Monoe on my playthrough, only Monoko, I don't see what the appeal in the characters are though, unless if in the manga they are more relevant
