McCarren Skatepark is literally one of the best skateparks in Brooklyn when it isn't crowded.

Had a session today. Played game of skate for the first time! Was pretty cool, but I know only basic tricks up to kickflip and STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE. Was fun, yeah, I wish I could skate every day like you Ben.

Thanks man, too bad dude broke his board before the game, so we finished on mine, haha.

Deep_wolf oof, I watched a guy on Thursday crack his deck too. Felt bad, he had to leave the park and go find a store to get a new board.

    • @Deep_wolf
      @Deep_wolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, that happens. Too bad, becuase not everybody down here can afford a new board every few months or so. Thats why we skate only three months in summer.

Ben, I would seriously suggest scrapping trying to do kickflips standing still and just go straight into moving. Your technique is 95% there, the only thing stopping you is fear factor and commitment. The problem you'll have is, once you get a few consistent kickflips standing still, you'll start moving and then the process starts all over again from square one.
With the level you're at you want to just try any new tricks moving, a trick done stood still is a pointless trick, it also means learning the trick twice!
Apart from that keep up the good work! Boneless tricks are looking great! I'd get that bigsping to the bank / transition, boneless tricks are designed for banks, not flat. Same principle as the fickflip, if you take all your boneless tricks straight to the bank, other variations will come more naturally.
Lastly, go faster! The boneless tricks you pull off on the bank are the ones where you roll into them going faster, it gives you more momentum. Again, the only thing stopping you is fear factor but once you convince your brain it's easier this way, it'll actually become easier! Speed will help your carving too, once again giving it more momentum. You're actually more likely to fall off at a slower speed because gravity catches up with you!
Plus going faster is much more fun :D
Anyway, still the best thing to watch while I have my morning cup of tea! Keep it up!

83Photography thanks dude this is all good stuff and I appreciate you breaking it down. I will take the boneless to the bank. I thought I needed to work the technique of the kickflip a bit before taking it back to moving but yeah mostly I think I need to stop turning my shoulders and commit.

    • @83Photography

The only reason you're turning your shoulders is because it allows you to put your foot on the floor. It's all in the commitment and ability to not psych yourself out! I always imagine two massive bolts fixing my shoulders in position on the board, and no matter what I do, they won't move and I'm stuck in that position. I almost concentrate on my shoulders more than my feet. haha.
When I was learning kickflips so many people would come up to me at the park and tell me to do them moving because it was easier. It may seem like a step backwards at first, but eventually it will make more sense.
Also, one of the regulars at my local park told me that if I'm having trouble with a trick to think of someone I love just before I try the trick and to delicate the it to them. Skateboarding is all about positivity and to channel that through your thought process. Not sure it entirely works, but it's a nice idea. haha.

Thats a lovely idea about envisioning someone you care about before you do a trick. Intention is everything. Especially in my business.

id add; practice jumping without the board as high as you can while raising your knees to your chest. i see your back foot only going up slightly when you ollie. if you can get your feet higher your ollies will take a drastic turn for the better. other than that KEEP IT UP!

I love them. Really digging the feel of them. They are a little softer so i get some grip and i am not one to do a ton of pivots or power slides so they work out really well.
