11:39 - why is it so hard to show the slide when one of the speakers specifically tells people to look at it? Many, many GDC videos have this problem :-/
ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ２and ソニック＆テイルス for ゲームギア were so much fun to play. With the original メガドラ version it isn't that there was something wrong about it in particular making it less fun to play as compared to the aforementioned titles released for ゲームギア. It offered fast paced gameplay, the music sounded great, and it had a nice look to it. It just didn't feel right and wasn't much fun to play. Maybe this had to do with something related to level design or because the bonus stage felt so repetitive after awhile.
Thank you for this talk. Interestingly enough, I've tried to draw Sonic when I was a small boy. I never succeeded and it always looked awful but I'm mostly certain that this was due to my inability to draw and not because of how difficult Sonic's character was to draw. :-)
When I was a kid, in Brazil, Sega was everything everywhere. The Megadrive was the talk of the town, my cousin got one with Streets of Rage, Sonic, Golden Axe and Altered Beast, I looked at the Megadrive and tried to figure out how it was even possible that that black box could do all that magic. As I had no internet, my kiddy brain settled for the idea that it was the work of tiny little people with different abilities working inside the box; One imagined it all, one drew it on the TV and one was some sort of musical genius that could make music on the spot. Of course I eventually learned how it all really comes together as I got older but the kid in me can't help but feel happy to finally see and hear the brilliant inhabitants of the Megadrive.
Thank you for uploading this precious talk! I really dislike how this translator interprets what the presenter says with intonations, attitude, "ooh"s and "uhm"s, and even chuckles (4:42) as if the work was hers... She should stick with conveying the words only.
That part about Sonic being for all ages is bullcrap; I mean, everyone says they've grown out of Sonic. How do you outgrow something that's for all ages?
I can't tell if you're being serious or you're trolling. Hasty generalization and false dilemma aside, he's done nothing but grow in popularity and has gained tons of new fans while retaining many lifelong fans. People are allowed to stop enjoying something, even if the attempt was to try to make something that everyone could enjoy.
@@BatteryExhausted No, the president of SEGA Isao Okawa gave back over 500 mil in stocks to try to keep investors, and they stabilized into software production. They also made good money off of arcades in Japan. They're doing fine now between acquiring Atlus, and the Yakuza series taking off globally. Only Sonic Team is still sitting around eating paste.
Do I see this right, they live decades in the USA and unable or unwilling to hold their presentation in english or stand up? Instead lets get a female translator and talk while she translates. And worse it fits the bad stereotypes about japanease culture I try to get you of my head, or is it just me?!
Go live in Japan and find out how easy it is to learn a new language. They are Japanese and very busy at work. I give them a pass when they speak their native language. Shove your petty, bigot mindset up your rotten backside. You don't speak Navajo like the natives of America, do you?
Hirokazu Yasuhara deserves more credit. Dude went from designing gameplay for Sonic to Jak to Uncharted 1.
