Most of the Mario Paint stuff was recovered in the N64DD games, and it was reused in Mario Maker 1, unfortunately Nintendo already forgot about it, because after 2015 or 2016, Nintendo officially focused only on newer things, hence why Zelda is now open world, Metroid: Samus Returns didn't follow the story of Metroid: Zero Mission or Super Metroid etc.

True mario maker has ton of references from mario paint (like 90% of shit from mario paint) and its pretty cool
