    I loved both parts and you never know what skill level your viewer is going to be. I'm very much a novice. In fact I don't have a workshop yet. I mainly have to work out side. I have a router, miter saw, old Rockwell tablesaw with no miter gauge or sleds. Any advice?

    Really nice bench. I'm jealous of all the space you have. My two cents: I don't like drawers for tools, unless they're tools that are very seldom used, or are very specialized. To me, drawers and cabinets are for supplies(paints, sandpapers, screws, etc), but hang tools on walls where I can see them, and grab them in just one step. I especially prefer keeping hand tools and clamps out of drawers. It helps me think about how to do something, when I scan thru the possible tools to use.

    • @MakeSomething
      @MakeSomething  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a strict “no tools on the wall policy” that must be enforced at all times.

    • @jerrybobteasdale
      @jerrybobteasdale 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hah, it might be because I'm older, and more forgetful of where each tool is stored. I tend to have too many places to mislay a hand tool. I spent too much time looking for all the danged places I MIGHT have put the danged thing.

  • @hudsonriverlee
    @hudsonriverlee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just an idea. Maybe this idea is useful ?. Making a simple 2x3 T Track. The ends cut down to 1”. This would allow you to use the hammer style bench clamp to hold it in place. This would allow a t track clamp opposite of the one you built into the bench. This T track could be hung up vertically on the wall, or, if you make it the size of your clamp drawers, you could store it in there along with the other clamps.

    Something I've always been curious about is how the compensation works when you get a sponsorship deal from a company like Rockler. Is it a traditional advertising/endorsement type arrangement, where you get money in exchange for visibly using and endorsing the product, or is it more about getting the tools, jigs, etc. for free from the company to help you do your work?

      Some of us are brand new to woodworking and appreciate the fact that we don't know enough to have much of an idea what kind of stuff might be nice to have, too. I don't know about that vacuum thing, that seems a little too much given the frailty of its parts in what s otherwise a pretty punishing environment, but some of the other stuff is cool (it seriously did not occur to me to leave off the dog holes until I need them, for instance). If Rockler is a good source of tools, so be it. If it weren't for advertising and watching you guys, I wouldn't even know where to start.

      The Bessey’s can get a lot more clamping pressure for sure but the aluminum bar clamps are easier to use. My 100% honest opinion

  • @robertw.1499
    @robertw.1499 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are obviously sponsered by Rockler, or at least want to be. Bessey clamps are well known, world wide, for their superior quality and ease of use. Bessey clamps are also made of high grade steel which will not bend even when clamping pieces which need a lot of clamping pressure. Why a Rockler aluminium clamp would be better or why on earth you would prefer it is beyond me! If you're going to recommend anything, impartiality is always recommendable, even if you use sponsored tools. Rockler make a lot of good stuff, no question about it. Like your bench though 👍
    ps. The Besseys wouldn't be covered in glue if you had covered them with paper at the "Glue-up" phase. Your Rockler aluminium clamps, with all those holes, would now be seriously non-useable.

  • @SeanNecker
    @SeanNecker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    At some point, you may want to consider putting a couple of intersections in the middle of the long runs along the length of the bench. That way if you already have a few things mounted in there but forgot to put something on the inside of the track, you don't have to pull 5 things out to put the one in the middle. It would give you more flexibility if you happened to flub the order of sliding things in.

    Invest a few (and I mean actually very few) bucks in a brace/bit set. Even an old one. Those 3/4" holes are way easier to do with a b/b, leave PERFECTLY good holes, and is totally quiet and zen. Spade bits scare the crap out of me for any sort of surface work. B/B with it side cutters are like super expensive Forstner bits in that they leave the hole perfect at 1/10'th the cost.
