I love Dimitrova and she had a big beautiful instrument. She was capable of singing all dramatic roles and great spinto roles as well. She was not underrated she was deeply admired all over Europe or the big beautiful killer dramatic soprano voice. Maria Callas was admired for a great repertoire and could sing anything. I do agree with you on the trills issue, BUT this is as close as one gets to embodying what Verdi wanted of his Lady M. And on that issue I have to say this, given that Macbeth is one of his earlier to middle period operas, had he written this in his later period, I can't imagine him ever writing in trills for Lady M's music...simply because a trill usually showcases fragility, innocence and youth, something which Lady M had a definite lack of. Her music is completely taken out of any sensibility for a trill to be written in it. The only place where her trill is justified, in my opinion, is the drinking song. Cheers :D

It doesn’t matter than Dimitrova is the greatest recorded singer to come from Bulgaria: just criticisms still stand. And as wonderful as she sounds, Callas is unmatched in this aria, and I think you, too, would admit that if you weren’t so biased.
Mat Ei, I agree, I myself I do not like this kind of wild voice; to sing a convincing Lady Macbeth or Abigaille you do not need to have an enormous, big voice. An expressive voice, yes ! Listen to Deutekom singing the Lady and Abigaille, a wonder comming from the same voice that sings Lucia and the queen of the night !

Actualmente, un poco extraviada y confundida esta técnica en el mundo, será muy fácil caer en manos de algún maestro ignorante o charlatán. Esta técnica es la de los grandes cantantes de antaño, tales como: Pertile, Caruso, Ruffo, Bechi, Albanese, Caniglia, Cignia y etc.

"voce angelica", ma per una isterica, sadica, violenta e assassina, oltre che manipolatrice.

Later with age , fatigue sometimes she lost the rythmical imagination and it happened that musically and theatrically, some recordings are empty from her real person. I mean she was an athlete always, but not always a fine actress or suttle musician. Anyway her vocal instrument is unique.

Caro Mario, spiacente, ma non urla MAI. L'emissione vocale è sempre pulita, adeguatamente sostenuta e apparentemente senza sforzo.. Ho sentito tante, troppe, soprano "urlanti". Si tratta generalmente di artiste che si cimentano in parti al di fuori delle loro possibilità vocali. Qui la combinazione tra la voce e il personaggio è praticamente perfetta; Lady Macbeth è veemente, cattiva e violenta. Non puoi scambiare la potenza vocale impareggiabile della Dimitrova per un urlo. Semmai aveva il problema contrario: quello di tenere a bada tutta quella potenza vocale, cosa che ha peraltro dimostrato di saper fare bene (vedi "ebbe ne andrò lontana" dalla Wally (1996), che può anche essere criticata da chi apprezza interpretazioni più morbide, ma che è comunque eseguita maniera mirabile. Forse dovresti ascoltare di più.
Questi sono cantanti d’opera signori…e qui mi taccio perché non voglio fare nomi di attuali “star”, con voci ingolate, costrette, parodie operistiche. Meno male che questi grandiosi artisti hanno potuto essere registrati, tanta arte è preziosa, nutrimento per l’anima e appagamento estetico per le orecchie. Grazie Ghena.
