one tip I give to people looking for immigrant ancestors is don't be too fixated on their name, in fact it may be better to focus on surname or other info like wives or children. spent the month looking into my Italian ancestry and all the census records, draft records, obituaries, vital records, Social security record, ect. pointed to a man named Antonio as my immigrant ancestor. but unable to find any immigration documentation I researched his children to work back on him. eventually i found "Antonio's" Naturalization Declaration and all the info on it was the same as everything I found on his other documents. same current address, same birth day and location, same wife, all the children and their birthdays and location were there, arrival date consistent with census records, all checked out. However his real name was Bazio Antonio, he used his middle name as his name after coming to the U.S.

It felt like finding gold when I found my great grandfather and great grandmother's passenger records. They were listed as both Russian and Polish in two different censuses, we had three different spellings of her maiden name. (it was truly butchered...finding the parish that she had a child was another gold find....I found her passenger record minutes after that)
In the end, I found that they were from two tiny (now almost nonexistent) villages in Belarus 14 miles apart. (Both near Traby...one said he was from Vilna, she said she was from Minsk)
I just wish that ancestry sold their DNA kit within Belarus because 5 months later, my sister and my DNA matches are just on my father's side of the family.

Went to the card catalog and did a search on the word "naturalization" and found nothing.

Have you done the AncestryDNA test? Also search family trees to see if a name pops out at you. Some trees have pictures that you might have seen but never knew the person in the photo. Also use the message boards. Here is an example using your last name:Search Results for "Crouse " - 4,895 Messages

Cristy, how do I find my maternal great-grandmother Alice Mary McCahey's parents?I found records that show her brother Peter and a sister Anna but no records tying the three to parents. Also how can place Peter and Anna in my tree on Ancestry when it won't let me add siblings without first adding the parents?
