25:15 Adding an extra roller inside the reel is pure genius imo. I've never thought of it. I'm pretty new to tape loops and i wanted to thank you guys for the ultimate in depths tape loop video.
you guys should look into super glue activator, wood workers use it all the time for gluing router templates to their work. Its basically an aerosol spray and what you'd do it apply your glue to where you want your roller to go and then give the roller a quick spray with the activator and then once you press the roller to the glue its instantly adhered. Or do it the way you did in the video but once you have the placement correct spray it with the activator and it'll instantly dry/adhere.
@@BatteryOperated doh, I went back and saw you guys were using the spindles and reels from old cassettes and then deleted that part of my post lol. Brilliant idea! But if there is a site I'd be happy to know as well. Thanks!
@@codelicious6590 chrome tape is better quality, however some older players don't play nice with non ferric tape! Also lets not forget that we are hunting for the Lo-Fi 😁👌
Somewhere early on in that first build I found myself thinking ‘surely these guys know to the millimetre how long the tape should be for this- and every other- loop arrangement’. Because that’s the first thing I’d do- will do- when making my own. An added bonus would then be knowing pretty much exactly how long each loop would be- one second for each 46.7mm. Or am I overthinking this? The whole point is lo-fi after all…
We can basically eye every loop at this point 😅 had lots of practice now! If knowing the exact measurements will help you then you should do it! there is no written rules and you've got to do whatever will make it fun/easy for you👌 We have a bit of electrical tape stuck to our workshop desk that is the exact measurement of most of our loops and we compare against that when cutting loops, if we don't trust our eyeing in that moment 👀
Ive gotten a lot out of this video and channel. Thanks guys. Care to recommend any other like minded cassette splicing circuit bending freaks? Apart from the obvious like LMNC and hainbach im having trouble finding smaller creators on the platform i like lol
Hearing that people are getting something out of our content makes us insanely proud so thank you for sharing that with us dude! I completely understand your problem haha we have the same issue with finding new content like this... Off the top of my head some loosely related channels to check out are Soundgas, OK housecat and you probably already know but since you didn't say it Simon the magpie! I may think of more so I'll post them here when I do 😄
I like the content, but this video could have been cut down to 50% of this lenghts. Who wants to watch someone taking his time, amlost falls asleep while speeking.
"just cut the fucker off, mate" had me in tears for some reason. Anyway, really fun and informative vid! Any plans for a vid on speed modding tape players/dictaphones?

if you cut both ends at a angle through together overlapped you can match the ends together and not have that extra tape tab to worry about.
This is so frickin killer! Thanks fellas.
Great video, although I don’t think I’ve got the patience to make my own tape loops. I think I’ll order one from you guys instead in the new year. 😊
I’m late to the party but just wanted to thank you for sharing this! Really like the creative/experimental approach which I’ve found very inspiring 😁
19:00 is golden, this my philosophy when it comes to this kind of experimental music as well
Yeah its gotta be the best way of thinking when it comes to this stuff, has lead us to so many new sounds

I recently learned that the darker colored tape is higher quality than the lighter brown/rust colored tape.
