      Yes true.
I came across Sri Rajarshi Nandy's talk only recently.
The knowledge that he disseminates has helped me to gain a better understanding of different religions and different dharmic systems.
For instance, at 1:11:38, he says:
"Eat whatever you feel like, so long as you stay away from things which are banned like beef and all that"- as if cows (and bulls and their calves) are the only animals that feel pain when they are slaughtered.
It blatantly shows the sheer HYP0 ¢RI CY of Hinduism (i.e. SO-CALLED Sanatana Dharma), and that it is not very different from the hyp0çri¢y of those Abrahamic/Ibrahimic desert cults that Hindus love to b€ll!†le.

In my hometown in Assam there is a Devi temple where pashubali is widely practiced. Before the bali the animal is taken inside the sanctum where the priest whispers into the animal's ears. Immediately the animal becomes calm and stops making any noise. This always used to amaze me since I was a kid and to this day as well.

There's no doubt that bali has a very scientific basis and is a powerful metaphysical technology. Having said that, there are other technologies widely available for connecting with and progressing to Divinity. More fundamental to the sciences is compassion and a binary choice - harm/cause pain or not. So while Bali is a powerful tool, there are more fundamental paths where we honour and bring forth the foundational principal of love and kindness instead of resorting to Bali

Very nice and powerful talk.. My 2 cents...
Bali Vidhan is an integral part of Shakti Puja because is is sanctioned by the Shashtra. I fail to understand the mindset of people who are opposing it. First, you pay visit to the Mother Goddess (who has khadga (sword) in her hand, wears munda mala (garland made of freshly chopped heads)) and you expect her to be all kind, non violent and benevolent only (human standards) . No doubt she is kind and benevolent, however, that does not mean she does not like Bali.. In fact one of the names of of the mother goddess is balipriye (one who likes Bali).. To all those who oppose Bali Vidhan - 1. You are free to worship any other form of God who does not warrant Bali.. 2. Please don't peddle your weakness and try to impose your weakness on how the mother goddess's worship should be done 3. Get your concepts clear on Bali Vidhan before speaking on public forums..reveals how shallow you can think of. Joi Ma Kamakhya...

      ======================================
*I AGREE with the larger point that you are seeking to make-i.e., what about the innocent animals.*
The question that has ALWAYS arisen in my mind *(even when I was a Hindu)* is:
      - WHY is it that there are deities-which are essentially aspects or forms of god-who like the k! LL !ng of innocent animals as sacrifices (i.e. Bali Priya)?
      - Further, why is it that *human beings* (somehow have to) k!ll sentient innocent animals as an offering to those god(s)/deities if they want to please that deity (i.e. that specific aspect or form of god)?
      - If god is omnipotent, why does that omnipotent god not take the life of the animal on his/her/its own? Why does god need/want a HUMAN BEING to k! LL the animal?
I have always felt that if human beings want to k! ll an animal, at least they should be honest about it.
They should NOT try to absolve themselves by using the excuse that god wants it.
Have you read the story of *Siruthonda Nayanar,* who is one of the 63 celebrated Saivite/Shaivite saints *(saints known as Naayanaar and also as Naayanmaar)* among *Tamilian Hindus?*
If you have not read it, please do read it, or see the videos on TH-cam.
You will find that it is NOT VERY DIFFERENT from the story of Abraham/Ibrahim (at least as far as a devotee being ready to k! LL even his own INNOCENT child in order to make god happy is concerned).

      Thoughts on Pashubali
1st blunder: You think you and the deity are different.
2nd fact: You created an Ugra form for protection. Because you yourself became soft. So, you had to invoke the deity outside of yourself for protection.
3rd Fact: If you have invoked the Ugra form, you need to feed the deity your life force. Because that's what it is made of and that's what She or He feeds on(You literally used your life force for pran pratishtha when you made a stone into a high energy instrument with a specific purpose).
But then you didn't go deeper within yourself and did not figure out the technology (tantra) that can help you feed the deity, your own life force(which is the ideal way).
So, you choose a cheaper option. Which is feeding someone else life force(blood) to the deity.
Conclusion: It takes body aching sadhna to embody the deity, but you'd rather choose an easy way. Buy an animal, and feed his/ her blood to the deity for your own benefit(spiritual or material advancement).
Just because it is written in 100 books doesn't make it sanatan dharma. Unless you yourself haven't touched that sanatan(eternal) aspect within yourself, you will always create deities/books/systems outside of yourself to be fulfilled.
Something eternal and unlimited cannot be understood and performed through something limited (like a book). It will always be limited. Hence, it will always give temporary fulfilment.
Also, later in the path when you realise all this time, you were the deity that you were worshipping. All that Karm that you accumulated thinking that your deity will take care of it, will come back at you and then you'll have to deal with it.
So Good luck killing the innocents of other species to protect your own species.

For those protesting against bali on emotional/moral grounds, few logical points to think about:
    1. Everyday BILLIONS (100s of crores) of animals are killed for human consumption. On top of that, a lot of that meat is wasted. Imagine an animal dying only to end up in trash.
    2. Who says nature/God is compassionate all the time. Compassion is one of the attributes of God / Nature but not the only attribute. In this Nature itself animals kill and eat other animals including newborns, eggs, etc. Nature runs by rules, and violent deaths are part and parcel of that system.
    3. For those jinse animals ki pleading eyes dekhi nahin jati - hey guys grow up. There are hundreds of pleading human/animal eyes all around you everyday. Pay attention to them as well. Most likely you are a soft urban cocooned child who has not been exposed to the harsh realities and cruelties of everyday life. You will faint if you see a surgery being performed.
    4. Why all this gyan only for Sanatanis? Mulla ko bhi samjhao na eid par kaatna band karein!
    5. Ugra devatas require ugra bhog. Some deities are pleased by fruits, but others require meat. Why should this be so shocking to understand?
And who are ugra devatas? For example, somebody you would worship for victory in a war. Wars are won when the fighter has killer animal instincts, naturally the devatas also have to be like that. To access their krupa for victory, you have to please them by offering what they want. Imagine pitting a khichri-eating waifish Indian football team against a meat-eating solid muscle European team! You get the idea!
    6. Devatas have multiple roopas and manifestations. She can be a compassionate mother in one form and a fierce implacable destrouer in another form. Naturally, the offerings also have to be as per the swabhav of the deity.
These are purely logical arguments. In addition, bali is approved by numerous authoritative scriptures written by the most learned and wise rishis. To question or mock them and implying that we have become wiser or more civilised than them, is a laughable notion. If anything, humans of today are just a fraction of the ancients in every possible way.

God does not require any offerings including flowers or any food. We offer them for our pleasure. In the case of pashubali, a living creature is involved.
When there are conflicting views based on scriptures; one has to go only by Vedas for authentic opinion. Vedas do not permit himsa of any sort and so pashubali is against scriptures.
Many tantrics believe in human sacrifice too. Should such practices be allowed?
Just because a large number of people eat meat; it does not give permission for pashubali.
Imagine aliens take over our earth and they believe in human sacrifice to please their deity. If someone close to us is taken away for sacrifice, how would we feel?
One should always aspire for a higher level of ethos and values. Not killing animals for food or sacrifice is one such path. May God and deities shower knowledge and kindness to killers and dissuade them from their wretched ways.

The crux of the issue is whether this ancient ritual is supported by the shastras or not. And scripture after scripture (very richly produced in multiple comments on this thread) unequivocally support balividhan. Once shastras sanction the ritual then personal opinion, fragile emotions and woke secular ideas are irrelevant. The hypocrisy couldn’t be brought to a starker contrast when these same woke seculars do not bat an eyelid at the streets awash with blood during Eid. The question becomes how is this tradition allowed to continue unbroken and undisturbed while Hindus have to bear the brunt and practice their rituals surreptitiously in their own land? This is further aggravated by Hindu meat eaters who love nothing better than a succulent meat biryani but become queasy at the thought or sight of bali. How did the meat end up on their plates? Good question to contemplate when they take a bite of the meat at their next meal.

Position of Brahma Sutras on Balividhan and commentaries on it by various acharyas from different sampradayas:
Vyasa discusses the issue of animal sacrifice near the end of Adhyaya 3 Pada 1 of the Brahma Sutras:
If it be argued that rites (invoking killing of animals) are unholy, we say, no, since they are sanctioned by scriptures.
Adi Shankaracharya says about animal sacrifice in his Advaita commentary on the Brahma Sutras:
We proceed to refute the remark made by the pûrvapakshin that sacrificial works are unholy because involving harm done to animals ... Now from scripture we derive the certain knowledge that the gyotishtoma-sacrifice, which involves harm done to animals (i.e. the animal sacrifice), &c., is an act of duty; how then can it be called unholy?--But does not the scriptural precept, 'Do not harm any creature,' intimate that to do harm to any being is an act contrary to duty?--True, but that is a general rule, while the precept, 'Let him offer an animal to Agnîshomau,' embodies an exception; and general rule and exception have different spheres of application.
Ramanujacharya says in the Sri Bhashya, his commentary on the Brahma Sutras:
it is not so, on account of scriptural statement. For Scripture declares that the killing of sacrificial animals makes them to go up to the heavenly world, and therefore is not of the nature of harm. This is declared in the text, 'The animal killed at the sacrifice having assumed a divine body goes to the heavenly world'; 'with a golden body it ascends to the heavenly world.' An action which is the means of supreme exaltation is not of the nature of harm, even if it involves some little pain; it rather is of beneficial nature.--With this the mantra also agrees: 'Thou dost not die, thou goest to the gods on easy paths; where virtuous men go, not evil-doers, there the divine Savitri may lead thee.' An act which has a healing tendency, although it may cause a transitory pain, men of insight declare to be preservative and beneficial.
Madhvacharya says in this excerpt from his Dvaita commentary on the Brahma Sutras:
It may be said that sacrificial work involves injury to life, and as such it is productive of sin and consequently of misery, and that, therefore, it is not to be performed. But this objection is to be refuted on the ground that the injury to life involved in holy duties is permitted by the word (scripture); for the Varahapurana says, "To do harm to any life except as enjoined by scripture is really productive of sin and evil consequences; on the other hand, no evil consequences possibly arise from the act of killing permitted by the Vedas."
Baladeva Vidyabhushana says in this excerpt from his Gaudiya Vaishnava commentary on the Brahma Sutras:
Because piety and impiety is known only from the Vedas’ statements, the Vedas’ order to commit violence must be understood to be actually kind and pious. Therefore the orders of the Vedas are never impure. The prohibitions “Never commit violence to anyone,” and “Violence is a sin,” are the general rules decreed by the Vedas; and the statement, “One should sacrifice an animal in an agnisomiya- yajña,” is an exception to that general rule. A general rule and a specific exception to that rule need not contradict each other. There is scope for each.

I was doing pradakshinas to the sanctum sanctorum in the outer corridor. The compound was deserted except for the howling of the winds and the black carpeting night only to be lit by the fierce electic lights in the compound. As i was doing the pradakshina, i saw a piegon coming flying down at that time. and land on the way. I just moved away and continued my pradakshina. when i entered to the next round, the piegion was still there alive and seeing all sides but was sitting as if it was laying an egg. It did not move even though i was walking just next to it. When i entered the next round of pradakshina, it was fully on ground with its head leaning on the floor still alive. But when i entered the fourth round of pradakshina, i saw water on the floor which came out of its mouth and the piegion was completely lying dead on the floor. I told the same to a high level disciple of my guru, but got no response. Now after seeing this video, i understood what it was.

My father told me that the mahabharat books mention how kauravs offered a bali of a rakshas from their army to kaal bhairav and pandavs gave bali of khatu shyam aka veer barbarik (son of ghatotghach-grandson of bheem) to kali mata in order to win war. It has been a kshatriya practice. Even my Rajput ancestors had done so. Even more interesting, some future tellers that my great grandfather head of said in riddles that when bali pratha will stop in this specific Rajput kingdom, mlecchas will conquer and torture bharat varsh and the change of Bharat will begin.

      I am takankar rajput (rathod)
i am from Maharashtra and i am am from Rajasthan origin my ancestors came in Maharashtra because of Haldighati war in my culture we worship वळेखण माता (valekhan mata) and to please or make her happy our mother goddess we give goat or sheep sacrifice not just cut the throat there is certain steps like firet we have to make the sheep have a quick bath and after that waer a garland and say some mantra in ear of the sheep or goat and we wait for our mother goddess to accept the sacrifice the signal of the acceptance on the sacrifice is the sheep sneez it means the goddess has accepted the sacrifice then we sacrifice by cutting throat it a certain step then we distribute it in our kul कुळ (linage) . This ritual is in my culture from many years . What hurts is so called WhatsApp sanatani's say it is not in sanatan dharma and you will go to hell . But i believe in my mother vadekhan and i am proud of my culture. If you wonder who is vadekhan वळेखण then i can tell you as per my knowledge she is durga . Jai. Valekhan

A special investigation team was formed to find out the perpetrators. Well, they finally got caught a day back, 5 of them caught and others are still absconding. In HT, the detailed description was given how the act was carried out. Probably whoever read this news, they must have been shaken to the very core. Many says in Kamakhya temple Narabali continued through the 19th century. Even today there happen to be some low key demands to reinstate it. Sacrificing females or even eunuchs is considered a grave sin in our dharma, so whoever did this didn't do it to offer a tribute to the mother. They are like goats and should be sacrificed to provide blood to Maa Kamakhya. And FYI, the temple was bono durga mandir, within a few meters of Maa Kamakhya temple.

Some may worship a deity for material gains and desires. But the worship of a specific deity depends on a persons nature. You worship the deity you most connect with and have complete devotion for. An upasaka or sadhaka doesn't worship the deity for any material gains but for devotion and reverence for the deity. If one's kuldevata is a deity of mild nature, one doesn't follow such rules. Krishna, maa laxmi, lord Ram are worshipped in saatvik way.

Also, it is of the nature of SatChitAnand, so how can we say it is unmoved or not reactive, when Chit is its essential aspect? Also, how can its contemplation be limited to Sanyasis, when we have the tradition of Vedanta gurus such as Ramana Maharishi who had disciples from all walks of life?

Thanks for your offer to hear me out. Our civilization expects discussions/ debates with questioning to refine and improve our thought process.
One of the unique pillars of our land is the concept of "Dharma". This concept first espoused in the Vedas has been passed on for thousands of years as a foundation in Upanishads, Epics, Puranas and later by many seers all over India. Ahimsa or non- violence is an integral part of Dharma along with Truth, non- stealing, purity of mind (and body) and control of senses.
"Ahimsa is not causing pain to any living being through the action of one's mind, speech or body". " Ahimsa paramo dharma" is mentioned in Mahabharatha many times.
The Smruti state "Na Himsyat Sarvabhutani" meaning never kill any creature.
Such noble thoughts are unique to the oldest civilization and we should be proud of inheriting such heritage.
Finally, (Himsa) Violence is a consequence of greed, jealousy, anger/rage or a false presumption that you are doing the right thing. Pashubali is due to the last point.
Our scriptures state that one should strive for a higher level for our soul through our actions.
I pray to the Bramhan to transform people involved in Pashubali for the emancipation of their souls. After all, It is human nature to correct one's errors in judgement. Let innocent animals also have peace.
"Sarve bhadrani pashyantu" - Let goodness pervade everywhere
      🙏🙏🙏
