I walked out of the theater at the end credits, just sobbing. James Cameron did a great job wrapping up the loss at the end by reminding us of the importance of memory and legacy, as well as the strength of family.

Personally, I can not wait for the directors cut to come out well worth the wait. I have no doubt Avatar will do what it needs to do over Christmas weekend and beyond. I saw it yesterday and I've got two more showings booked this week. I'll be booking more showings during and after Christmas as well. I'm positive others will also go out of their way to see and experience this movie in 3D. I got chills watching it. It was such a visceral and emotional experience. My only disappointment/complaint is that we won't get the movie that happens in between the two. Those have been adopted into graphic novels. Unfortunately, those graphic novels just don't do that story justice. I want the movie when Jake and Ney'tiri are starting their family and developing their love. Thats the season of my life I'm in and its the movie I need in my life right now.

Dont compare it a marvel movie. Marvel movies are front loaded. They earn their money at the opening weekend because the rabid fans want to avoid spoilers. Whereas Cameron films, their opening weekend are meh and not impressive nor bad, but they are leggy, meaning as the good word of mouth spreads, more and more people are coming to theaters to see it and see it multiple times. That's why Cameron films stays in theaters for almost a year. Marvel films only last 2 weeks and then theaters pull them out of screening.

So, hot take: it was ok. Visually it was stunning, but the story, the story was just non-existent/boring and I came out more disappointed than I was happy. Still a great experience in theaters, but visuals, rather than story, seemed to take the highest importance

Just because it was boring to you doesn't mean it's non-existent. It's a good but simple story with lots of moments where we're allowed to just experience Pandora surroundings without worry about conflict. But when conflicts does come, it was awesome to behold.

The plot is very small-scale compared to the first, but that's exactly what I wanted. It's a story of revenge and survival, which helped to bring the family together stronger. It just works better that way to make the plot small-scale.
