I purchased one, and the short story is: Get One. Covers a lot of ground in one instrument sonically, plays like an absolute dream.
Mine is on order. Currently stock is hard to get ahold of so I've got to wait 3 months. I think I've watched every video going
So I've heard mixed reviews on these pickups, some say they sound amazing clean but not great for high gain.
Can anyone confirm? I'm looking at this guitar and a Kramer that has a JB/Jazz set.

I have owned the SE CU24-08 for just over a year now….what a guitar!! I also own 7 cores and the SE gets the most playtime. I don’t know and don’t care what people say about them but mine is up there…a grail level of a guitar! You must try one
I just my moved both my PRS now they do this. Oh and the Zach Meyer model. Damn them.
Core looks like it has a subtle burst edge (at least it does on camera) while the SE appears to have uniform coloring.
It has yellow in the core where as the se is solid green
I got me a McCarty S2 594 and also had a faulty switch.
"PRS actions are a little high out of the box"... I haven't played a PRS SE in the shop that didn't have a 3mm+ action.

I wanted the Eriza Verde Core so badly in 2012, I thought this might be an interesting (and let's face it much cheaper) alternative to buying a used one . Thing is though, the SE's are good,.... but they're just not the kinda guitar that I can excited about owning. I am a huge hypocrite though so I might go and get the new Zach Myers instead!

Agreed. nice that he disclosed it and showed that in some cases these issues can easily be rectified simply without a screaming fit at the dealer about sending a broken guitar. Should it have worked properly out of the box? Sure, but life is often not perfect. Looks and sounds like a great guitar.
Bought one of these bad boys about 4 months ago. Or should I say pre-ordered, because it was out of stock. Still waiting on it to come to the U.S. ! Really? People in Califonicatia need to get back to work so I can get my guitar!!!

What is a 10 top anyhow?

@@geruto17760 It's supposed to be a higher grade top, like Gibson's AAAAA tops, or however many A's they use now a days! I believe 10-tops are about 3 grades down from the highest tier. The next up is the Artisan tops, and then you have wood that comes from their select reserve woods. A rough pattern I've seen is that 10 tops tend to be in the $3k range, artisan's are $5k, and the reserve are in the $10k+ price range.

It seems like the core still has more of that flame shimmer and depth to the figuring than the veneer does though.
My first inclination was to say; Damn I hate green guitars! But the longer I stare at it, it’s growing on me like a fungus.

This guitar looks absolutely interesting spec wise. I actually appreciate it came with that little problem on the neck pickup. If it happened to me, i would have been extremely dissappointed thinking i have to send it back, instead of considering there was such an easy fix.
My Standard SE had a weird issue where both the pickups sounded like the tone was all the way down all the time, I got a simple 80 dollar fix for it but it was a bit annoying

That looks like an A+ example. The veneer looks way better than most, it has depth and the mahogany is flamed as well. That’s a killer SE
%100. The Veneers on the SE's are hit or miss. Some are bland and plain w/little flame and some are like a 10-TOP. If you can pick/choose your axe - you'll be a winner

@@Kreioftze Yeah i have 1 or 2 like that also. I try to pick them out where I can. Its worth the extra couple bucks to $$ them from a place where you can actually choose the one you want. Otherwise its a total crap-shoot
@@vincebauerle5942 Agreed. Some veneers are legit. I really think they look fantastic when you get a great one. Definitely better than Phil's 10-TOP, which is sort of a 7-TOP IMO lol.

@@xdoctorblindx he is specifically talking about the flame top here. You could get a custom shop guitar that needs some contact cleaner on a switch, it’s not a big deal.
I have a SE Zach Meyers. My top is probably a 6-7/10. I had an issue with soldering touching the ground, I used an x-acto to push the soldering apart and it worked beautifully.
Bought one, looks just as good if not better than this one. And had not issues with electronics. Love the guitar.

They make (or did recently make) an SE Customer 24 in amethyst. Was a really nice guitar.

It’s the lack of deep carve that makes these look weird too.
I agree...the SE models always look like a sticker in person. The “real” ones actually look like wood.
I just don’t like the carve to a flat top on the SE or even the S2. That’s what keeps me from buying one. If it had a shallow carve then I wound with fine. The carve to a flat top bugs me. I hope to see one of these in person. Maybe I’ll change my mind.

The SE Eriza Verde Custom 24-08: Got one about a week ago. And sadly there are a lot of problems with it. The set up as you said is high. Mine was very high. I could tell something wasn't right with the nut once I tuned it. the B and E strings sounded muted and plinky. So there's that. I should not have a nut problem on a 1000 dollar guitar from PRS. I have and play two Schecter guitars and they both came with no set up problems. Trying to set the height to be more playable only caused more muted and or plinky notes. Plinky as in they are not ringing out the way they should. Took it to a friend and he has the tools to check the neck. And found from the ninth fret up to have unlevel frets. Even without the problems I found the neck to be uncomfortable for me. And the bridge very limiting. The note down rang is usable, but the bend note up range gives a hard crash into the top of the guitar body. If you look for people that play PRS guitars most never have the bar in place. I though it was odd. But now I know why. They are cheap and not much though has gone into making useful trems for the PRS. This is my first so I don't know if all models are like this. I have read so many asking is this model over hyped... my answer is very hyped.
Great review Phillip, I'm very disappointed with the tuning stability, I literally cannot gig this guitar, even if I don't touch the tremolo I have to tune in the middle of each song literally, strings stretched ad nauseum, any suggestions? Sounds great and I love the green, just pops, looks better than the PRS usa version there, but it's just not usable if it does not stay in tune. I think the PRS tremolo is very outdated and unstable. The fact those pins break in 2023, give me my 2 pin USA standard trem any day.
I’m struggling to understand why anyone would spend the money on the core?
Got mine yesterday, awsome. Plays great, sounds great. Eriza Verde really pops. A lot lighter than my Gibson LP. Thanks for the review Phil. it sold me on purchasing it.
I am probably the only player on the planet that don't like zebra pickups . I like both coils to be the same color . Nice SE guitar though
Its incredible how much better the clear knobs look vs the amber ones on the SE.
Makes me wonder what other things could make the SE just as handsome.

I feel the same way sometimes. Bought a 2017 SE custom 24 when it came out. Every year there is a new exciting thing, problem is I love mine, so i guess someday ill just have 2! LOL
I can't get over how they make such beautiful guitars yet make such impractical choices for locating switches and knobs.
Yeah...Those tiny coil splitting switches look like they're in a very awkward place between the knobs, especially when the whammy bar is attached

It's a fantastic guitar for the price. As much as I dig the "Eriza Verde," I think the "Vintage Sunburst" is really classy and looks SO nice on this PRS. Hopefully, everyone gets the green, and I'll be the only one with a sunburst model.
Purchased my SE 24 two years ago. Not one single issue. If you want a stay in tune guitar, this is it. The D'Addario NYXL strings on this guitar turn it into a tone monster

This is why I love this channel. He gets a new guitar out of the box and has a problem. Shows us what’s wrong then fixes it. I think some people would freak out than the switch didn’t work. I am torn between the two as well. I love the green color on this one, but I really want the fixed bridge on the Paul's guitar.

I have owned several SE's and they have always been phenomenal.
There's no doubt that this guitar sounds good, but it's also clear that you're familiar with it and that you'll be at your best no matter what guitar you use. I was taught that I need to improve my ability before choosing a guitar. Thank you.
I just bought a SE Hallow II, a day later they come out with this finish for the SE Custom 24-08. I might have to sell something. This guitar looks incredible!

I just got a PRS S2 McCarty thinline and have the same neck issue. Still diagnosing the issue. Haven’t tried the deoxit yet. Not sure why... I’ll give it a go - thanks!
That should pretty much always be your very first step diagnosing an issue like that. You saw how simple it was, and it's extremely common. Just good practice to clean those guys up every once in a while anyway.
I love that coil split feature. It sounds more like a Telecaster than a Telecaster does.
That top looks fantastic. Mine is close to this top but I looked at about 100 before finally finding the one I bought. Most that I've seen on Reverb have a very different top and bottom. Many had very distinguishable stripes on bottom but almost no stripes on top.
It's interesting to note that PRS originally released this guitar as the PRS SE 35th Anniversary Custom 24 in 2020. I bought one at the beginning of 2020, specs are identical. Just the colors are different. I prefer my Black-Gold Burst. Great guitar though.

I have the '35th' in the FBB finish. I love it! The 35th has Abalone birds, which looks great, but are hardly visible when you play.

PRS as a company wouldn't change how a guitar is made in 2020. The 35th Anniversary and the 24-08 are the same minus the abalone inlays. Case closed.

Ive got the 30th Anny, I would like it if it had the toggle vs 3 way slot (even tho u had that issue ;-). For a while I really wish mine had Pauls sig on the headstock but now its actually not as big a deal, plus mine was built in Korea. And I did get the Floyd Rose version! very satisfactory.

Okay, I know it's just my opinion, but I think it's ugly, and those controls are odd. My 2018 zebrawood with matching headstock is classier looking, and has two knobs and a three way switch that make it EZPZ to use.
Yep I'm with you Patrick, I think they should replace the weird toggle switches with push pulls on the volume & tone for each pick up then return back to the blade setup for the 3 way selector. The way it is currently looks like the toggles are added as an afterthought. Also I have a 2018 zebrawood too - made in Korea :)

I never "got" PRS, and these made me a believer! Best split coil tones I have ever heard!
Back in late 2019 I had the SAME issue with the neck pickup on 2 PRS SE Custom 24's. I also work at a local music store, Worst of the story was, I notice the issue right when I was demoing the guitars to customers.
Good advice on using the Dioxide on the pickup selector switch. I'll know that for next time :)
I love it, just wish they offered a non zebra pup option, personal preference but i love the tones and color. Nice job as always Phil!

I tried one of these SE 24-08 models immediately after trying a normal SE Custom 24 and wow, what a difference in the pickups. These were way hotter and brighter. I liked them much better. And if you like that sound from both pickups in the video, a Schecter Banshee Mach 6 or 7 has the same kind of "swirly" or "watery" sound with the Lundgren pickups, however a Mach costs twice as much as one of these, and for good reason. They're insanely playable and we'll built.
Dear God, I think I have found my perfect guitar. Just getting back into guitar after 10-15 years and was contemplating a Warmoth build due to not being able to find the exact specs and style I wanted with other brands. I have been looking for this EXACT color in an affordable guitar. I have a Wolfgang Standard on the way, but I will be selling some gear to afford this in the next few months. Wow.
Like my 35th anniversary se custom 24 with same carve, pickups, and switching. The TCI S pickups are pretty great with lots of usable tones! Also really like the new SE body carve. Looks great and more comfortable than the deep carve on the core. The core looks better but the SE is more comfortable to play. Keep up the great work Phil!
SWEET! I found a "used" SE Paul's guitar a few months back. I love the TCI pickups with the dual mini switching for the coil taps. What a great guitar! I'm seriously considering one of the CU24's ...with the maple neck, trem, and closer spaced neck pickup...it would definitely compliment my SE Paul's. (I'm just not much of a "green" fan)
Phil, your demos are always the best! But I do have a question regarding the PRS floating bridge. Can you drop the low E down a whole step without throwing the other strings out?

I'm planning to sell some of my LTD guitars (my EC 401 or my Viper 1000) to buy that PRS... Good or bad idea?? 🤔
After viewing loads of PRS SE and core model videos and not hearing a major difference between them. I came across a 2013 Korean made Custom 24 in charcoal grey with the birds on the neck. As it had three holes screwed into it for a GK3 Synth pickup (idiot, use the sticky pads) I got it at a steal, at least $200 less than other ones I'd seen. It also had a hard case so I done the deal. I filled the holes, colored and drop filled them, sanding them smooth. I felt the fingerboard edges a bit too abrupt so I rounded them off, perfect. after playing Les Pauls and Strats for many, many years, I wanted to see what this guitar could bring to the table.
Firstly humbuckers, It's a good bit brighter than my Les Pauls, possibly because of the treble bleed capacitor fitted, not the same tone quality, missing the Gibson quack, really a bit generic. Think more Schecter, Ibanez etc! Split coils fare a good bit better, getting a reasonable Strat tone out of each and a nice Tele middle position. Where it falls down of course is Strat positions 2 and 4, everyone's favorites! Maybe a three humbucking pickup version with a five way switch and extra coil split would be the ultimate PRS. I do find it play easier than both LP and Strat, thanks to the extended access cutaways and the 24 frets. Check my video ;0)

I had the same problem with my SE 24 right out of the box. My bridge pickup didn’t work. I sent it back. Never thought to spray it.

I used GOTOH locking tuners on my SE 24 Custom, better, cheaper and nicer looking.
If they would put a pattern regular neck on the SE (like the new santana) i would buy this in a heart beat.

I was looking at the build and already understood why it was only $900
Seems pretty low grade to call it a prs. It needs a different bridge and both pickups need to go. At that point you might as well save another $300-500 and get a proper prs
Is the whole "10 top" thing kinda BS? It doesn't look that great, and the SE veneer looks muuucch better. I'd rather a pretty veneer than a subpar top
I think you definitely were sent a hand-picked guitar. The vast majority of these that I have seen have mediocre bookmatching of the veneer. Just today I looked at several sources and could not find one with a top even close to this one. That's why I will only buy from Sweetwater (which has none as of today's date)
Does anyone know if the pick ups in this guitar are better than the SE 24 custom (Bonnie pink blue etc? ? I guess is the SE 08 pickups better then SE?
Sweetwater has three different containers of Deoxit none have a high, medium, low settings. What specific container has those adjustments?

This guitar is sold out is a back order till October is must be a great guitar for your money. I order one from Detroit Guitars they had on coming in till June. I pay already to get it. Can’t wait to play it find the sounds you can get.

A lot- well over a grand more. Not worth it to most. A good CE24 is a relative value. That said, a nice Godin xTSA is an incredible guitar and a used one can be had around $600! Mine has piezo pups, electric pups and synth output! It always gets compliments. You can also run two amps at a time- very versatile.
These zebra buckers look awful! They sound really good though.
