Hey Everyone, Check it out: open.spotify.com/episode/2bI3EgxWIZkyKBDyCr0Ql7?si=7t3qZ0FiTBqIVVJoYJ-rLg . We just started a Psychology Podcast at the request of our MCAT students. You should check out this video his students asked him to do. th-cam.com/video/0t1hN67OU7M/w-d-xo.html Apparently, he can also do it with his toes (on Swartwoodprep Instagram), LOL.
I'm taking my first psychology statistics class this fall. So this Swart Wood Prep will help me a lot in understanding the method of psychology statistics.
Well yeah that may be a good idea to master basic statistics before psychology studies, so you can focus on important psychology stuff later on instead of stressing out about statistics there
As someone who’s been working in psychology for 10 years I’ve barely used anything I learned in statistics and I’m still successful… have we not learned psychology is not a one size fits all… however he explains it extremely well, I just feel bad he has to
I remember doing this in my first college math class and I did really well with it; the teacher was a really good teacher, that was a couple years ago. I am hoping that I retained what I learned because at the end of January I will be taking a Psychology Statistics & I am nervous that I won't be lucky enough to get another good teacher; a downside to this class is it is online
This guy knows his stuff, I think. He speaks so fast, assuming that everybody gets what he is talking about, that in the end, my head is spinning. No more caffeine for you, prof.
I wish I would have had this during stats.... you truly explained in 9 minutes what I was told in h. s. I was too dumb to understand. Stats is also the only class that brought my entire GPA down... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Seriously thank you for this
I am *terrible* at math and thinking about doing a Psychology (Conversion) Master degree. I do not have a BA in psychology, but in a completely different subject. Will this be too difficult for me? Math is the subject I dislike most out of all topics/subjects in existence
I got an A in intro to statistic and have no idea how cause I still don’t get any of it .now I’m a about to start statistics for psychology using spss . Hoping your videos help me
Ζ= X-μ/σ ? and we put the half number of σ and we using it for + and at left - ok ! nice ! its the typical Normal ? so if my university wants this i will use this diagram ?
John said that he just made up 24 and 12 as a concrete example of why you divide by the standard deviation. If you want to know how many dozen eggs are in 24, you divide 24 by the number in a dozen eggs (12). If you want the number of standard deviations present, you divide the total difference between you score and the average by the number in a standard deviation. Hope that helps!
I have a question. I'm in the military currently, not to be rude or anything I'm just really curious butt how does psychology help you you with real life scenarios? how will it impact my life?
Hi Cynthia, I can ask John, but he's teaching some big classes right now. One of the other instructors might be able to help. Is there anything specific you had trouble with on SPSS?
@@SWARTWOODPREP thank you. I failed pre algebra 6 years in a row. Where's the easiest place to start? I learned I'm also going to need calculus. I'm 43, it's a 10-12 year process. I have to remind myself I only started studying for this 5 days ago.
How do you think psychologists perform social experiments and decide what sample sizes you need so the experiment isn't skewed by statistic outliers? If you're working with an experimental antidepressant with a control group it's important to understand basic statistics.

His 100s of lbs of gummy bears killed me 🤣🤣 even though I know it was just an example
Gummy bears are tasty and never offend anyone lol😀.
Thank u! This helped me understand so much better.
Glad to have helped! Let us know if there's any other stats topics you want to see covered.
Great presentation and technique- thanks you
This guy knows his stuff, I think. He speaks so fast, assuming that everybody gets what he is talking about, that in the end, my head is spinning. No more caffeine for you, prof.
his chalk skills are impressive
I wish I would have had this during stats.... you truly explained in 9 minutes what I was told in h. s. I was too dumb to understand. Stats is also the only class that brought my entire GPA down... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Psychology Students like me are seeking for therapy to get rid of math anxiety 😭
Those side burns are off the charts.
I can't even eat 10 pounds of gummy bears a week!
Thank you so much
👍
How does he make such quick dotted lines though?
INCREDIBLE 🌈
I like the beginning 😅
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS
this is the only vid that really helped me understand 😭
I literally was just examined on this for high school
I am *terrible* at math and thinking about doing a Psychology (Conversion) Master degree. I do not have a BA in psychology, but in a completely different subject. Will this be too difficult for me? Math is the subject I dislike most out of all topics/subjects in existence
Thanks mate, really helped bring my text book alive!!

Hallelujah, wow! 👌
Awesome lecturer…
Thanks! Let us know if there's anything else stats related that you want to see!
I'm not very good at stats but need it next semester for psychology, but I'm not sure where to start
This is an awesome! video.
I got an A in intro to statistic and have no idea how cause I still don’t get any of it .now I’m a about to start statistics for psychology using spss . Hoping your videos help me
Taking this class next semester and I’m terrified
Ζ= X-μ/σ ? and we put the half number of σ and we using it for + and at left - ok ! nice ! its the typical Normal ? so if my university wants this i will use this diagram ?
Your hair is amazing
I have to take this class :/
why we not using the √ of σ ?
So happy we have math in psychology!!
Wait wait where did he get the 12 from I’m confused

Thank you for explaining to me
Just want to know, what is the range of z scores?
Hi Muskan, technically, negative infinity to positive infinity...but, in practice, you get almost everything with just -3 to + 3 (99.7%)
@@SWARTWOODPREP Thank you so much! The videos have been very helpful!
This guy must go through a lot of chalk!
".....beyond 10 you get freakishly high or freakishly low, so no big deal." If it is freakish, it sounds like a big deal to me.
Thinking about quitting psychology becouse of statistics. Food at everything else but fuck math and i mean it FUCK IT ❤
did you quit?
I have a question. I'm in the military currently, not to be rude or anything I'm just really curious butt how does psychology help you you with real life scenarios? how will it impact my life?
It’s about the study of a human mental state
Please teach in hindi language🙏
Hi Swati,
I wish we could, but we do not know Hindi :(.
I love your teaching style . It's very useful.
Anyone who can help with SPSS assessment?
Hi Cynthia, I can ask John, but he's teaching some big classes right now. One of the other instructors might be able to help. Is there anything specific you had trouble with on SPSS?
@@SWARTWOODPREP yes, interpretation of data and changing graphs to APA format
I am like, whoa?
Math makes me feel so dizzy T^T
I'm never going to pass:( I can't understand any of it.
Don't stress out. You can learn this! Just take some time. I will ask John if he can do another video.

I want to do forensic psychology.
@@stepha2642 So how did it go? Been two years since your comment.
@@Byronic_Herostill attempting but I quit for a while
Teaching fast is not cool
This is not psychology this is math
im sad to inform you but math is a very big part of phychology :C, well, mostly statistics

Why does everyone who teaches this talk like they are high on speed balls. Like if you don't say it in a rush you die.
Much too fast😃
