    This is what we called the afghan stitch back in the 60’s and 70’s. This is fun and fast. Seems like you could cross stitch on it too. We made several panels to make an afghan.

    That technique is called Tunisian crochet and there are special crochet needles for it, they are longer than an ordinary crochet hook and there are a huge variety of patterns you can make using this technique. If you start the rows with just going through the first single stitch you will get a straighter edge on the left side of your work.

    That's more than one row, though it IS only one kind of stitch, really. Tunisian is a gorgeous method. You just need a Tunisian hook, which is longer than normal with a cap or stopper a the end to keep the stitches from coming off, or even a cable with an end for wider projects.

      Crochet loosely, with a larger size Afghan hook

    • @rkng1
      @rkng1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Chrissie P Tunisian crochet almost always curls. Generally speaking you should use a hook 2 (two) sizes larger than the yarn skein band recommends for regular crochet. Another trick that helps some, is to turn your beginning chain over and pull up your loops through the back bump of the chain. That also gives you a cleaner looking edge that's also easier to do a crochet border into. Tunisian really needs to be blocked when finished. Either use steam method or dampen, pin down and cover with dry towel overnight. If your crochet is still damp the next day, remove the towel but not the straight pins until dry. A set of knit blocker interlocking blocking squares really helps. I couldn't find in my craft store but was able to get nice set on Amazon. I think the craft stores might have them back in stock. I got mine during the height of Covid.

    • @ChrissieP106
      @ChrissieP106 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rkng1 What is blocking? Straight stich all the way around the edges? Thanks so much for all the info!

    • @rkng1
      @rkng1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrissieP106 blocking is when you either dampen or steam your finished knit or crochet project. Whether you steam or dampen and then allow the project to dry, you need to pin it down to something to hold it in place. Once dry, your finished project should have a nice shape and stay that way. It's easier if you have blocking mats. I have 2 brands KNIT IQ and Hephaestus Blocking Mats. I prefer the Knit IQ. I got one set from Jo-Anns and one from Amazon. Hope this helps. Sometimes it also helps to hand wash your project and roll it in a towel, especially if damp blocking. You need to keep your project pinned in the shape you want until completely dry.😊
