I haven’t seen the movie but I read the story. To me, the pivot is the haunted cupola. It symbolises facing death. Chuck faces it and gets the courage to open that door and find the knowledge of his last day. I think it informed how he would live the rest of his life, the joy, the service, the love he put into his work and family, the symbolism of the dancing, his choice to put down his briefcase in spite of his misgivings and dance his heart out. I felt the ads everywhere and his image on every window at the end, symbolized the extent to which all of us do this whether we are aware of it or not. Life is our practice for our transition to eternity. That’s also worth celebrating.
