I so very much love your Charles Dickens story!! What a treat,I could listen for hours. I have a special place in my heart for Nicholas Nickleby,it's such a sad but also uplifting story. And yes of course Christmas Carol, every year at Christmas. I haven't read all his books yet but it's definitely my intention to read them all eventually. I think I'm half way through his collection. And you are right,he was special and a big advocate against social injustice. I've read quite a few of his biographies,a fascinating man he was! Ps: the blooper at the end 🤣🤣🤣
Anne, you and I could talk for hours about all sorts of novels, but particularly Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. It would be hours and hours of tea/coffee and skipping from one novel to another. Bliss really. Thank you for encouraging me to talk about my favourite novelist, although once I start, it is difficult to stop. I adore his works and what we know of his life. I had to keep it short!! I also have a number of various biographies about Charles Dickens. I cannot get enough. I inserted the blooper at the end from the cooking video. I thought it may give everyone a laugh or at least a smile for their day. Must dash as I have more editing to do. Take care, happy reading, safe travels, eat well and I will 'see' you next video. Cheryl (ABT)
These look like wonderful reads Cheryl, I particularly like the look of The Christmas Tree Farm - the cover is so cute and colourful. Your recommendations are really expanding my reading repertoire, most authors have been new to me, I love it! Also I cannot believe I have never read, not even one, Charles Dickens novel. I had it in my head that I had read Great Expectations but it is actually the film starring Michael York that has stuck in my head since childhood. I adored that movie and I must get on and read the book. I am so happy that you are continuing over the Christmas period, I will have my Mum here for 3 weeks and we can watch you together. I hope you and the ABT family are staying cool and hydrated today, this Northerly wind is horrendous! Also, your thumbnail is gorgeous, well done Rune and Artie 😊
Good Day Jo! Super! I am so excited that you are finding these recommendations interesting. Brilliant news to my ears. The Christmas Tree Farm is wonderful, comfy, snuggly and heart-warming. I think you will enjoy it. Laurie Gilmore's books are a delight. I recommend her novels for a 'feel good' read. Ummmm, not one Charles Dickens? Not one? A Christmas Carol? No? Little Dorritt? No? Really? *faints. We need to get you reading Charles Dickens, PRONTO, Jo. Your life will never be the same. When you take into account the period in which his novels were written, the social norms and attitudes, it makes him all the more enchanting and fascinating. Oh wonderful. I will make sure to be on my best behaviour with your Mum watching. It will be super to 'see' you over the Christmas period. We are hot and irritable Jo. The boys, minus Mark, are splayed out on the floor under fans and in the darkened rooms. They are not lovers of the heat, or the sun, wind....or rain.....actually, they are not fans of the cold either, Hmmmm....We may have a problem here! Those boys on the thumbnail are just the 'Ants Pants' Jo. Naughty but nice, cuddly, smelly and just the best companions. I will let them know that you congratulated them on their photo shoot. Until our next video, happy reading, safe travels and eat well. Cheryl, the pesky boys (including Mark) and all at HQ ABT.
JO! I have only just realised that I said The Christmas Tree Farm is English. It is not, it is by an American author and set in America. I apologise for my error. Not sure why I said it is English!! (I blame end of year rush!) Cheryl (ABT)
Thanks Jo. I have, sadly, made a few silly errors lately. I really am rather tired and the end of year with the heat does not help matters! Hopefully the new year will refresh and revitalise! See you next video Take care Cheryl (ABT)
I thought I recognised the name Simon Brett. He was the script writer of the BBC sitcom “After Henry” with Prunella Scales. One of my favourite shows…I love the ‘70’s/‘80’s British tv shows! Anyway I will certainly check out “Blotto & Twinks”…sounds a fun read! We’ve been watering the garden and trying to keep the chooks cool. Stay safe down there and look forward to your next video 🎄📚
Yes Sue! He was the script writer. The 'Blotto and Twinks' books are interesting and may take a bit of getting used to in the manner of the two characters and the dig at the 1920's Aristocratic ways and the comfy murder mysteries. Once that is understood and taken for what it is, they are a fun mystery series. We are desperately trying to keep everyone cool here Sue and also watering the garden with gusto. The heat is relentless. Do take care and keep hydrated, in the cool/shade and look after yourself. Happy reading, safe travels and enjoy eating well Cheryl and all the boys at ABT HQ
