This is the best photography related short film I’ve seen on TH-cam in months… maybe longer… in fact, I can’t think of anything I’ve enjoyed as much for ages. Congratulations to you both (and all involved) and thank you for creating it. Very inspiring.
What a fabulous video, experience, mini-documentary! Best thing I've seen on TH-cam in ages. The mix of fascinating information, skill, enthusiasm, excitement, humility and delight is an absolute gem!
Was looking forward to this video and it was worth the suspense. I kmow a number of wet plate photographers and admire them and their photographs but this fellow is the closest to having brought me to tears. What extraordinary photographs! Thank you very much for this video. The most surprising element, to me, is the gradual evolution of Jaime's speaking voice to British. 😅 Great fun!
Damn. I live 2 minutes away from Dimbola Lodge, halfway between there and Farringford house. Dimbola Lodge was scheduled to be pulled down in the 80s and it was my ex father in law (Ron Smith) who instigated its restoration. Oh, and Brian Hinton came to the island for the 1970 pop festival just down the road from Dimbola and stayed ever since.
@@olitography Agreed. He was very brash, but also very kind. He cooked a damn good curry too! His wife Audrey was a lovely lady as well. Ron was also instrumental in getting the pop festival to happen. He had many strings to his bow.
Excellent. Loved it. There is a way of simulating wet plate effect in Nik software. I use it quite sparingly and it sort of works, for me that is. The important point is to use Ortho film in the first place and a soft uncoated lens. Some of the Soviet era stuff work very well when used wide open, or a Pentax 67 105mm F2.4 used wide open. I like using my Voigtlander Avus 6X9 of antiquity..
So interesting. Do you silanize the glass plates? I used to have to silanize (different purpose, hydrophobic) my 12x14in electrophoresis glass plates (PAGE) because I developed them in a silver nitrate bath.
Dimbola did play a large part in the video, we interviewed the curator in Julia’s bedroom and teamed up with Dave Shrimpton who had his finding Alice exhibition there.
@@olitography When I last went, they also had an exhibition regarding the Isle of Wight rock festival. Lots of long hair, beards and hippy mysticism with a similar look. 🙂
@@mrstandfast2212 That's permanent, as is the Jimmy Hendrix statue. I did discuss why in the full interview with the curator but couldn't include that bit in the JMC video. The short answer as to why, is that Dimbola was saved by Ron Smith and Brian Hinton, Ron Smith was the festival site manager for the isle of wight festivals.
Epilepsy is a difficult condition and I really feel for you. Broadcast regs dictate no cut should be less than 14 frames. Nothing in this vid comes close, but if it makes you uncomfortable there are other videos on the channel.
Super Looking forward to this Oliver & Jamie, you've both done an amazing job bringing Julia and her amazing legacy back to life ...
Jamie is a superb presenter. Well done both!
Thank you
What a fantastic collaboration! One to rewatch.
Feel free to watch it as many times as you like 👍

Brian talked about that a lot in the full interview which I will put out. He described Ron Smith as a human battering ram, sorely missed.

So enjoyable to watch…..
Thank you
Jamie indoors and in dry warm clothes? She must think it's her birthday! Lovely photography and presentation.
It was Christmas 🎅 thank you
Agradezco esta temática! Un abrazo desde Colombia!

That’s a Dave Question but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t. The glass just has to be clean. With some egg on the corners to trap the collodion
Superb!
Thank you! Cheers!
I've been to Dimbola Lodge on the Isle of Wight and seen the exhibition there. I'm looking forward to seeing how it inspires you.

I never realized Jamie has a BBC voice 😊
She has many voices, now I think of it.
I would watch this but daren't. I fear the amount of cuts will cause a fit.

No he didn't...
