Still better than some of the shite being dished up from the wannabes these days
When you criticized Treason I thought you should just turn in your U2 Fan card. Ive talked to a lot of fans that hope thats the direction they go in. Have your own thoughts and opinions, I just am not sure that you're a U2 fan.
I like the experimentation of "Treason", "Evidence of Life" and especially "Happiness". It reminds me of their daring '90s era. So many of U2's albums could have been double albums. They've never released a true double-album of new material. I hope their next album is a double album of really good stuff! Especially since it's been 7 years since their last album :)
@MichaelP_IsMe I would love a quieter album, like Songs of Surrender but new songs. I have read that Bono Edge and Eno are working on "sci-fi Irish folk" which would be really interesting!
Leave Bono's bottom of the barrel alone.
Lost me at a criticism of Hawkmoon
and Love Rescue me - it's one of their greatest pieces.
Not a fan of rattle and hum
@@SUBTUBESCENT I like it too. but Satanist Bono cut God for Love.
That version of Vertigo was on a BANJO, not ukulele. Music critics should be able to tell the difference.
@@TimberJones-l3y been 20 years since I seen it 😂
@primordialcreative me too.
Ironically, HTDAAB would have been the perfect album for the band to call it a day.
Great record, and the last one which didn't bore me.
U2 are not a band that have aged gracefully in the creative sense.
Hi, I'm glad this video appeared in my recommended feed. I agree with you on this album, it's underwhelming to say the least!
I forgot to speculate on what an actual “shadow” album could’ve been with the various demos, alt versions, unreleased material, re-edits and remixes but I imagine “The Theme From Batman” couldn’t have fit in either regard 😂
@@primordialcreative What batman came in 2004? Batman the Broadway musical?
Mercy should’ve been given the gold star treatment. Not this nonsense.
@@Miamiborne1969 EXACTLY a legendary track among fans that could have been some kind of lost hit or a extra on a GH collection. Have Jacknife Lee do a revised modern production w his good taste
The song was MURDERED lol. "WELL, let me feed it" "BUT if I'm prosecution"... "You heart has no home" WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD THING... MISSED AGAIN U2.
Yes! "Luckiest Man In the World" is mediocre at best. I won't even listen to it. All 6 1/2 minutes of the original "Mercy" is perfection! What a huge disappointment and a wasted opportunity for U2 to not have released a good-quality version of "Mercy" on this collection. I would have forked out the money for the 5-disc box set just to get that one song, but instead, they only made $8 off of me downloading some of the songs from iTunes.
They hyped up the "shadow album" too much. I do think it's better than "bottom of the barrel", but yeah, it's just another B-sides/Demos disc. That being said, I do like "Evidence of Life", "Treason", "Country Mile" as B-sides and I love "Happiness" (because I really enjoyed the music from "Pull The Trigger" on Bono and Edge's Spiderman soundtrack). I've always liked "Are You Gonna Wait Forever" and "Smile", and I didn't notice any differences between the original and new mixes. I've always loved "Xanax and Wine", but the new "Picture of You (X+W)" version pointlessly butchers that song, so I'll stick with the original version. I've always loved "Mercy", but the new "Luckiest Man In the World" version is so mediocre. I won't even listen to it. I guess I'm still stuck with the low-quality bootleg version of "Mercy" that I've been listening to all these years. I've always thought "The Batman" was fun, but nothing special. I do wish it began and ended like the original version, but it's not a huge deal to me. As for "All Because of You 2", I never really cared for that version. When it's popped up on a shuffle in the past, then I've listened to it, but that's it. Overall, I'm glad they released the album, but still not releasing the original "Mercy" in good sound quality was a huge disappointment to me and a missed opportunity for U2 to earn more money from fans. I would have forked out the money for the 5-disc box set just to get that song. Instead, I only spent about $8 to download some of the songs from the "shadow album".
@@MichaelP_IsMe I agree w all of this. In fact if it was just an “extras” then it wouldn’t have mattered but thinking “Theme From Batman” was remotely considered for something supposedly about Bono’s dad’s death and the state of the world is particularly egregious. It’s like putting Mission Impossible or the SpiderMan tracks on some alt versions of Pop and NLOTH
You’re an i
**** Mercy is not released. I refuse to accept this trash version.
Maybe this is why Bono isn’t promoting this 😂 the live version I mentioned and forgot the release is Wide Awake In Europe 2010
Yes, "Mercy" is far better than "Luckiest Man In the World".
You have dismantled U2 Thank you!
You are an excellent find.Thanks
