    Tombstone Stairwell, yes!
    I can't believe someone finally mentioned that card! I finally had an excuse to buy one since I was reworling my Elenda, and realized this is the perfect aristocrats card! Haven't had a chance to do much with it yet, but considering all the mana and cards spent to get the same effect otherwise, I can't imagine it being bad.

    Great episode fellas. My favorite pet card is Genesis Wave for almost all my green decks. Being able to just have it in hand and when it resolves being able to spin the wheel so to speak to maybe find an answer to losing or a major problem on the field whether I win or lose being able to cast this card makes me excited inside because I never know what I’m going to find.

  • @HickundHack
    @HickundHack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For me, it's definitely Compost. Together with Psychic Corrosion even as a Win Con against decks containing black. And it's not even in 1 % of all green decks.

    One of my pet cards is whispersilk cloak. It grants protection and unblockability. And now think about it, which commander wants protection? Every single one.
    And how many commanders are there that either want to attack, deal combat damage, be tapped, ....? Quite a large number i would say. I also love some of its artworks. Great card altogether

  • @Lyricaon

    A card that I think is super underrated is Heartless Summoning. It's not for every deck, but when it is good it is insane

  • @NerdByAnyOtherName
    @NerdByAnyOtherName 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One card I would consider a pet card of mine is Frontier Siege. It is only showing up in 2% of decks it could be run in, and I love the value that you can get from it. It is 4 mana, three and a green, and is one of the modal enchantments from the Tarkir block, and I typically use the "Khans" mode which says "at the beginning of your main phase, add {g}{g}". In my experience this is sneaky good, 2 extra mana at the begining of _each_ of my main phases, note it doesn't say "precombat main phase", lets me do so much extra stuff.

    Filth, if you run Urborg Tomb of yawg, you have an unblockable board. Nothing feels better than flipping Filth into the graveyard with hermit Druid then swinging with 25 unblockables or an insanely large lord of Extinction, then sacrifice to jarad!

    The biggest pet card of mine would definitely have to be Tamiyo's Journal. I absolutely love that it makes free clues you can cash in for card draw, but if you don't need the draw or don't have the spare mana you can save them up for a free tutor. When i'm building a deck i always search for a way to justify it, only taking it out of my more high powered decks that can't have more synergies with the tokens

  • @joriswind445
    @joriswind445 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me "insight" is my pet card.
    Blue enchantment for 2 and a blue, draw a card whenever an opponent casts a green spell.
    Most often there is one or more green players and this draws you a ton of cards for just a two -ish dollar card
    I love it !

  • @AxillaryPower2
    @AxillaryPower2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was trying to think of what are *my* pet cards and 45 minutes in I came up with Loxodon Warhammer. I put it in most creature decks, not because it's the best but because its internal synergies mesh so well together with itself; a power bonus that deters most would-be blockers since usually the opponent would be trading down, plus trample that always gets damage through, and a decent lifegain swing that a lot of time is the only source of lifegain in my decks. It's my benchmark when evaluating any new equipment.

    I played Essence Drain in standard back when I first started in my very first deck. I'd upgraded the M13 Orzhov Exalted precon and even in standard, I got many kills with it. You haven't lived until you've attacked with a Tormented Soul with a board full of Lingering Souls tokens and two Sublime Archangels, only to go to 2nd main phase and cast Essence Harvest for 10. Chef's kiss.

    I am so proud of joey’s ability to say asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar.
    Also, pet cards, I can’t stop playing Rogue’s Passage in my decks and I have only used its unblockable ability like... once after 2-3 years of playing it. I probably need help, but it’s such a cool card. But on a serious note, something I force into nearly all of my decks would be both ashnod’s altar and skullclamp. If I’m not sacrificing something, I’m probably not playing magic.

    Rude Awakening is one of my pet cards. In green you are usually flooding the board with land. It works as both a card to greatly increase mana for a turn or an emergency wincon. I also use it with copy effects to go infinite. My favorite is to pair it with Beastmaster Ascension for a surprise army of 7/7's.

    My pet cards are probably Galecaster Colossus and Kaya, Ghost Assassin.
    If you have a reliable source of wizards, like having a wizard commander, Galecaster can start disrupting opponents and protecting against attacks IMMEDIATELY since its effect isn't a tap effect, just a tap cost.
    Kaya has a lot of utility, whether it's blinking voltron commanders, drawing cards, or growing your Bioessence Hydra everytime Kaya returns to the battlefield!

    Unravel the Aether was mine. I remember playing it in standard and my opponent played Courser of Kruphix and revealed a stormbreath dragon on top. I had no answers to the dragon and was pretty much going to die to it next turn, but I end of turn Unraveled the Courser to shuffle their deck. For a piece of artifact/enchantment removal, it definitely has a lot of secondary effects.

    Great episode guys and in keeping with the theme of exilng Joey's graveyard, my go is Honor the Fallen. My favourite card of all though might be Chant if Vitu Ghazi. If you can trick the table into a large scale battle involving as many creatures as possible this card is so much fun. If you aren't good at the machiavelianisms another related favourite of mine is Master Warcraft which gets it done. I had a game once where i was locked down all game and only cast that one card and it was the most epic moment I've ever seen in commander. A smaller card I pretty much always run is Awestrike. It gains so much life at the right time, allows you to block with lifelinking creatures, that kill the attacker. In the same vein, Blessed Reversal is just incredible, Gideon's Sacrifice is incredible. I like these better than fogs because they still let you fight. Often if you're prepared for a fight people won't attack so I've started pulling out vigilance cards, and run cards like To Arms! instead. Wow, this topic is exciting! Another favourite of mine is Gift of Immortality. If you stick that on any creature that sacrifices itself like sakura tribe elder or martyr of sands, you get a trigger every turn, EVERY turn and can get 3 in one if you want! My last one has to be Bonds of Discipline and it is actually in every deck I have, its simple, wins games, leaves you ready for the crackback, and just feels fair and fun compared to other things you could be doing for 5 mana

    I have a bunch of pet cards, most of them artifacts or enchantments, because I like building up an overwhelming board presence over the course of the game. I am especially fond of permanents that allow me to create copies of themselves or other permanents, especially when it can be done more than once. My pet cards include: Mirrorworks, Soul Foundry, Prototype Portal, Planar Portal, Chronozoa, Ensnaring Bridge, Crawlspace, Propaganda, Lux Cannon, Energy Chamber, Throne of Geth, Sharuum the Hegemon (I kind of developed a crush on her after reading Test of Metal), Grave Betrayal, Endless Ranks of the Dead, Spawnwrithe, Phyrexian Swarmlord, Riptide Replicator, Guile, Voice of the Wood, Catapult Master, or any other card that allows you to tap multiple creatures to accomplish an effect, Elvish Archdruid, Imperious Perfect, and basically any other elf tribal cards, because I like elves.

    Bitter Ordeal. I started putting it in my black decks to protect my yard, and quickly discovered that taking all their best cards out is my favorite win condition. Sac/boardwipe yourself, cast, copy, get it back. Once is enough to get graveyard hate and key combo pieces, two castings breaks their spine.
    And I do run Veilstone Amulet in my Jhoira Sky Pirates deck. It's key when I have 3+ artifact CMC reducers out and every single available cast and tap needs to be dedicated to storming off.

    I’ve stated using obligate in every white deck
    And I’ve phased it out because it’s such high cmc but blazing archon
    I think it’s called obligate
    “It’s chaos warp but they draw two cards. And I have no idea why I never see it
    Chaos warp is always played and it’s pretty common it hits a land or something else. It’s pretty comparable to “draw one”
    Okay so you’re in white and you use obligate and they draw 2 and with the same math one of those 2 is a land.
    When I use white they’re not really “pet cards” but no matter the theme it’s always path to exile. Sword to plowshares. Generous gift. Obligate.
    Blue I usually use in some form, reality shift. Ponify. Rapid hybridization. Ravenform. Black is. I don’t really have one but it have to be feed the swarm or snuff out. Red is chaos warp and green is Farseek. Natures lore. Three visits. And skyshorud claim.
    Colorless is sol ring. Arcane signet. Swift boots and lightning greaves.
    My 5 color deck has near every card mentioned.

    I think the reason Scale Up doesnt see a lot of play in Ruxa is because that is at least a 10 mana play, since you have to play Ruxa AFTER you play scale up

    Rishkar's expertise. I listened Matt, I bought 8 and what do you know. I ended up using them all and wish I would have bought more.

    My pet card is Field of the dead. I put it in 1-2 color decks so much. I just want a different win con lol. Love that card

      Landfall is so ubiquitous and FotD has made such a negative impact on all formats it is (or was) legal in, it is one of two lands I will crack a Wasteland or Strip Mine to kill on sight, the other being Cabal Coffers. Between FotD and Torment of Hailfire, the most foreseeable wincons in the decks that play those lands.

    My favorite pet card has to be Death or Glory. Bring it up whenever pet or ubderplayed cards are being discussed. For 4 abd W take all the creatures in your yard and an opponent splits them into 2 piles and then one pile hits the board.
