Not for shooting events? I worked as a wedding photographer for 10 years with a pair of 5D Mk I bodies!!!. The 6D is a GREAT camera for event shooting. It´s central AF point focuses almost in total darkness. And the image quality of the 6D is excellent. In the other hand, I agree 100% with your comment about it´s contained megapixel count: You rarely will need more than 20MP and the big photodiodes contribute to better low-light (+high ISO values) performance, besides of the diffraction at narrow aperture values that will produce lack of sharpness with high resolution sensors. I bought the 6D MkI to forget about the main cons of the 5D: 1) Low processing speed 2) Poor screen 3) lower dynamic range (less important to me among the 3). If I had the budget I'd buy a R6 MkII. I guess it would be the logical step forward. Greetings.
I only have the 6d bought it for dirt cheap, I USE IT FOR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY it is still decent, the picture quality is there but the auto focus is lacking.
I want to give you props on this video. Well shot, well prepared, clear delivery, concise and to the point, etc. The only objection I really have is on the video aspect. Obviously, the OG 6D doesn't have phase detect autofocus or super high bit rates, or frame rates, etc, but... I actually really like the 1080p output from it. Though it is not a prime choice for video, I think it would actually be a great option for those who don't need to rely on the autofocus or are overly concerned with slow motion video or 4k recording. I mean, at the end of the day, it has great Canon color (even in video) and gives you full frame video (shallow depth of field, great in low light, etc).

I have been a pro photographer for 30-plus years and own a 6D, and your take on the 6D is wrong. It`s great for all types of photography. Then again, you are entitled to your opinion.
My father is handing me down his 6d. I'm getting the Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS USM macro lens for it to take photos of my scale models. I hear many good things about the lens and you've given me a good honest opinion about the 6d. Glad to hear it can still hold up to today's standards as far as straight up photography goes.
Been using the 6d for about half a year now, and I must say it's a great camera for the price. Great low light performance, and sharp images. Wouldn't use it for anything that requires fast AF. make sure you get a good lens with it. I highly recommend the 50mm1.8 if you're on a budget
@ChecoDmaGGot23Easiest way to figure out what to shoot is put the camera in Auto and let the camera pick the settings. Then, go back to Manual. Set the settings to what you found on Auto and begin to change the settings from there to match what you’re seeking
I never owned the 6d but I had all the 5d cameras. I am a professional and made a lot of money and even shot commercials that were televised nationally on my old canon 5d mark ii and iii. Yeah they only shot 1080p and 720 if you wanted any higher frame rate but it's not all about resolution. I can't imagine video quality is bad on this camera. I was recommending this one to a friend needing a decent cheap video camera for a TH-cam channel and came across this video talking about how bad the video quality is. I hope I'm not giving my friend bad advice but I'd be willing to bet I could light a scene correctly and shoot it with this camera next to my Canon R5 with the same lenses on each at the same resolution and it would look very similar.
Really nice used Canon 6D body £350 U.K. vs Canon R6 £1400-1500 used (add EF adaptor.) I just bought a 6D. Bang for buck value is crazy good as long as you know how to use a DSLR (most of us old dudes do.) A used Nikon D700 is the same price - that’s great too & it’sonly 12MP!
This is a great review. The 6D only records video in the H.264 format. 🤮 I only shoot stills, so it's working for me. I love that it cost me under $300 used for a FULL-frame camera. I love the wider angle it gives compared to a crop sensor. I love the many different resolution and frame aspect ratio options. I love the build quality and the feel. I love the way the menus are set up, the versatility, and ease of use. You're right - if your needs are basic, this camera is a winner.
I still shoot events with my dad's old 6D, using center focus only. Cause weirdly, I found the 6D+EF70200 duo easier to hold than the R6II+RF70200 alternative. The major restraints I feel is the mechanical shutter you could not silenced.
It's not so much about having issues with the video specially, it's just some features are lacking especially in comparison to what you can get today but that is obvious and clear!
This video helped me a lot tbh! I've found a secondhand offer, that seemed pretty good with the Canon 6D, 3 lenses and a SD card, and I've been looking for a video exactly like this. I'm just returning to DSLR photography after 10+ years break as a hobbyist, and even now 10+ months later, I genuinely think this video made me choose to buy it. The pros and cons was a good way of setting it up, and I'm positive that it can do what I want for at a hobby level 🙂
I have used th3 6d with a 70-300l lens for rodeos. If you know what your doing you can shoot action with it. lots of my photos are up on flickr using this camera.
I want to buy this camera for my assistant who helps me with my wedding shoots. He wants to learn photography and I think this would be a great starter camera for him.
I purchased a 6D used nearly a year ago, and have shot around a thousand images since then. I can't comment on the video aspect, since I've never used it for video. I know of several successful professional landscape, street and portrait photographers who still use it in preference to newer cameras specifically because of the way the sensor renders images. You can't measure this measure this via the spec sheet, but basically the 6D and the 5D and 5D Mk2 all render images in a way far more reminiscent of film than most of the more modern cameras. However, the 6D is much easier to use than the early 5 series models, since it was contemporary with the 5D Mk3. The 6D needs to be used with the centre point focus in low light, and if you use the centre point and recompose as a matter of course you will find it highly accurate in any light. 20 MP is sufficient enough for professional results, unless you are a wildlife photographer who often needs to crop heavily. I would not recommend the 6D for sports or wildlife photography, where the R5 or R6, or the 5d Mk4 would be a better choice. However, for any other genre, this is probably the best used buy in the Canon range!
I shoot Events and Weddings with a Canon 6d. No problem at all. I only was missing a second card slot, but I allways used two bodies at once an changed cards all 30-60 minutes. Never had a failure. You can use it, you just have to learn how to use it 😉
