I can't imagine being an ocean away from my young children. My son went to visit friends in Manchester several years ago. We live in the U.S. He was old enough to do so on his own. The ash from a volcanoe erupting in Iceland caused flights to be grounded for weeks. He was safe, but the feeling that I couldn't get to him if it had been more urgent was an unsettling feeling. I couldn't be farther away from my young children than I could get to them within a days drive. I always took my children with me, business trips, and vacations. They would leave home soon enough.
I have been gone exactly ONE time since my oldest was born, 14 years ago. On our 15th anniversary, we spent 3 days in Vegas and left the kids with his sister. We have traveled all over the place throughout the years, and except that one time, have never traveled without them with us. We may do it again for our 20th, but the point is that parents just don't up and leave unless they HAVE to. Normally, you take the kids. Even famous actors and musicians have their kids with them wherever they work. It's grotesque for a parent to leave them every single time.

I can't imagine being an ocean away from my young children. My son went to visit friends in Manchester several years ago. We live in the U.S. He was old enough to do so on his own. The ash from a volcanoe erupting in Iceland caused flights to be grounded for weeks. He was safe, but the feeling that I couldn't get to him if it had been more urgent was an unsettling feeling. I couldn't be farther away from my young children than I could get to them within a days drive. I always took my children with me, business trips, and vacations. They would leave home soon enough.

I have been gone exactly ONE time since my oldest was born, 14 years ago. On our 15th anniversary, we spent 3 days in Vegas and left the kids with his sister. We have traveled all over the place throughout the years, and except that one time, have never traveled without them with us. We may do it again for our 20th, but the point is that parents just don't up and leave unless they HAVE to. Normally, you take the kids. Even famous actors and musicians have their kids with them wherever they work. It's grotesque for a parent to leave them every single time.
