I would love to do covers for you but they are copyrighted so the music you hear is just some bits that I wrote, usually for Damo 🤣
Also in this video I’m saying it’s not currently possible for us, with kids and our distractions, but of course people all over the world do it, it’s very possible for others. Don’t forget to check out Damos shop now stocking 100% pure unadulterated honey if you are Thailand based. Hope you are all well 🙏

If I may say, and I intend this msg to be for the max of your Channel and profit:
Ryan, you have a MOST UNIQUE singing voice. It's perfect, but NOT for the song nor tune you used in this vid.
      1. The speed of the tune is way too fast for your SPLENDID UNIQUE voice, and WAY TOO INTENSE. Pick a tune with lyrics more reminiscent of past days and years. Your unique voice is perfect for "remembering" past dreams that never came to fruition. Play on it.
      2. Only use the piano (or guitar or banjo or harmonica) to play in between your unique voice "crying" the past failed dreams. Your thinking of the past dreams that never unfolded.
It's the voice of what could have been, but never was.
      Perfect for your voice quality.
      3. Modify the strength of the lyrics and tune to a softer "remembering" attitude. Your transmitting a feeling of what "could have been" attitude that never developed. You're reminiscing.
      4. Result: a softer acceptance of life as it unfolded.
It's how life occurs; not in how we dreamed it might be.
It's life. And THAT'S the message.
Hope you understand my message.I wish you and your family the very best. May God look after you.

    • @xavierkoolat6926

Self subsistence is extremely difficult to attain. Many "settlers" and "pioneers" perished as they attempted to survive in the westward development of the North American continent. The beauty of civilization is the relative ease of surviving using civilized societies for supplemental financial survival compared to pioneers and settlers self-sufficient survival is historical.
Kudos to you, Ryan and Damos, for your attempts, but allow yourselves the luxuries of using the Thai society to supplement your income and survival. It's OK.

Looking good to me. I am 70 years old I can't do a lot of things i did when i was younger but I love watching your videos. and those videos of families sailing around the world. You guys make me feel good and inspire me to try new things; to stay curious and participate in the world.
While attending college I lived on a 20-acre apple farm. the owner & her husband cleared the land, built a house and planted the orchard. To make ends meet She worked in town at the hospital 4-days a week and he would take on carpentry jobs and hunt and sell the snake skins and pelts to tourists. Her way of relaxing was baking, reading, or sewing clothes for her husband and 2 children. They were never idle and I never heard them compare or complain. A satisfying life is rarely the easy life with few challenges.

Sending love and ideas from Culebra, Puerto Rico. We are a tiny island with dry season, lots of salt in the air and storm season. I had a hard time starting and creating a garden to feed us with. Very rocky soil, as well!
Try spraying your veggies plants with alcohol, or wash off with Dawn soap and water mix. All bugs will leave. But you have to be vigilant about the bugs! Another option would be to build a green house for propagation, that will ensure the seedlings to grow and get strong, before moving to a row in your garden.
Don’t give up! We are all with you!
    Blessings!

What a fantastic ways that you, your loved ones and kids are deciding by taking care of all the animals, fruits that you're also growing on plants in your farm in different ways. Including the ways that your wife & son were cutting bananas, cherries & other are the about the same way that I'm also helping my dad including neighbors too incase any hard situation were getting affected to them while their plants are getting effects, me or my dad will help them to check then helped them to cut by letting them to know the situation about the reason why we're cutting out. What a perfect sound while you're playing piano and using your voice to sing while you're enjoying in your own farm home...

Ryan, you gave me quite a shock when you started singing! Your singing vioice is nothing like your quiet talking voice, I just wasn't expecting that 🤣😂 Loved your shat together with Otis appearing at the window behind you. Damo is always so optimistic and you are just a perfect match. Thank you for your honesty and integrity. Your channel is, for me, my happy place and I certainly wouldn't want you to change either of your channels fo the sake of making commercial vlogs. You are great the way you are! I loved your slo-mo clips of Troides helena or Common Birdwing butterfly. They are amazing to watch but what yuour clip doesn't show is the size of these beautiful creatures. They seem to be particularly fond of certain species of flower and once they find them they hang around drinking from them until they mate and die. Thanks as always to you and Damo, God bless you all 😀🙏❤

I don't see any butterfly peas, little round Thai eggplant, Basil, Kangkong, bitter melon, Chinese greens, onions, chilis, tomatoes, etc. I've seen many videos of people in Thailand growing lots of food. I have found in Bali since I live by the sea, many things don't like the heat at night. Here if you want to grow brassica's you have to grow up in the mountains. But after some practice I have found that Malabar spinach, sauce like tomatoes, chilis, Chinese greens, Thai basil, lemon basil, red and green Amaranth, dill, make it. I am going to try the butterfly peas, arugula, coriander, Toraja chilis, and a few more. You have to just keep trying. Have you tried Neem oil, dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, tea made from garlic and chilis, as a pest deterrent? The better the soil the healthier the plants which make them more resistant to pest and disease. Make compost and put it in your beds to improve your soil. Manure from animals that eat healthy food is good also.

Very dank intro on the piano. But in permaculture they often say the problem is the solution: you have a lot of rain, why not make a rain garden and include bioponics with it. Similar to aquapoincs, you have a number of animals producing manure - that can be added to water that feeds plants to increase the fertility. Use an IBC cut in half as a DWC tank and float a polystyrene raft of plants on top. HTH. Inoculate biochar with the bioponics microbes and that with improve the soil wherever they are spread. Give me a shout if you need more details.

The former King made a good Program for the poor farmers to survive from their land. Anyway you are doing good. You gave a lot of inspiration to us. We will try it in two Years for retirement. By the way you both are great souls

Are you channeling Satchmo? Alrighty then.555 "It takes a village to raise a child" is an old saying...think it applies to self-sufficiency as well. You would have to convert waste oil to bio-diesel to truly go self sufficient as well and much more solar and battery back up. Never give up is the attitude!

I think you should consider hiring a gardener. Just once a month. Its a small cost to get some professional support for you right now

Any reason why you use polly tunnels with some food produce that would help with insects, it’s all about the song = Growing Food Grazer = Regina Koepf.

What would happen if you selected the high value items to grow and sell/swap, or do you already do that?

This would be a good strategy but the local Thais here are very very professional and sell the vegetables often cheaper than production costs, similar with the eggs 🙏

    Great stuff Ryan.
Rather than have about 20 different "projects" going for self sufficiency....could you concentrate on 1 or 2 that you are good at....sell the excess in the market, and use profits to buy all the other things. Would you still call that self sufficient?
    Keep up the videos....Cheers.

They problem is produces sold in the wet market in Essan are priced cheap and one have to compete with other stores.
Not much profit can be made.

I feel ya'! We're up in N.W. just a bit south of Chiang Mai and a LOT of our crops just don't make it. We used to have lots of (the oblong, green) pumpkins just coming up wild, had baskets, so many we'd sell most. Then, they just stopped growing, can't get a vine to mature, insects are a BIG problem. ETC. ETC. Now, the climate is obviously changing, the rains are too hard and wipe out young plants. Best we can do is some odd fruit trees, Those are iffy too.

@@lifeinruralthailand Yeah; sorry, it's harsh. Like others said below 100% sustainable and self reliant is almost impossible, unless you're OK with a VERY limited diet. like, bananas every day for a month.
