This area is so strange to me. The old buildings and church are breath taking. I have been there for mass but literally had a beggar come up and beg for money from me right in the middle of mass. It is magical at night in that park but look out for pick pockets.

It really is beautiful. Great advice. I saw some kids eyeballing my camera while recording, so I moved along to not tempt them with my valuables.

@@expatlifestyle2000 I got to be honest. I was always a bit nervous on foot in this area. I always got the second look because I was the only white guy around. My wife went to elementary and highschool in this area. She grew up around there. She said that it has changed a lot from when she was young. She is now 45 and left at 16. This gives you an idea of how long she was away

@kevingonzalez3673. Your statements are so erroneous. There may be beggars outside but they never go inside since they can just wait outside and will be given alms by generous parishioners anyway. And we know these beggars by name, they live nearby, are well-behaved. All the two or three beggars in this vicinity are minimal compared to what you see in other big cities like Cebu or Bacolod where beggars literally populate the church front and sides and the dinghy plaza in front, where beggars, manicuristas, kibitzers, prosties on the lookout for, etc, are part of the permanent landscape . And pickpockets are wary because the police station is just across this plaza, and yes, there are cctv cameras to catch the most rabid foolish guy. I think you are talking about the Jaro church and plaza of ten or even give years ago. That is a thing of the past. Jaro is now literally clean and beautiful, cleaner that the plaza in your city, I'm sure, greener because the plaza is well maintained and the cathedral has several cleaning personnel and inhouse personnel to assure discipline in the area.

See those protruding square "boxes" on the green lawn in your video? Those are audio boxes that play waltzes, string music, symphony music, native Filipino string music, Vienna waltzes, but i think these audio systems were "resting" when you passed by.

I just had the noise reduction on my microphone. The music is so nice to hear when sitting around. It creates peace in the otherwise chaotic environment of a big city. Thanks for sharing the source. I didn't see any speakers walking around.

The renovation of the Plaza aimed to restore some of the historical features including the entablado where the choir Orchestra and the singers were used to be placed.

You gotta go to that place that does wood fired pork belly in Iloilo not sure what it’s called but man. I won’t try bolut or innards or anything that the thought of it makes me want to vomit. But I tried pork belly here in the us and it is amazing. If you like thick bacon it tastes like bacon it’s basically like a bacon sirloin steak.

Lots of unusual foods here. they have sisig; which is pig face skin. I got it one time and the pig Wiskers were still attached. Not my cup of tea but the pork belly and ribs are good. I prefer pork meat over the fat though as I believe most Americans would.

Ohh have you visit Bavaria german restaurant? Its at the back of the church. Its okay Nate you are new to a place so you are not aware of the pronunciation. They are still renovating the plaza all over Iloilo. Same with public markets.

Excuse me but horses were popular during the Spanish era of the 1700s and even up to the late 1970s when horse drawn carriages called "Calesas" ferried people to the food markets, etc. During the Spanish era, army generals like General Martin Delgado rode horses (his horse-riding statue is in front of the Ilollo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) and The Brandy Museum at the Iloilo Megaworld Festive Walk Parade mall. There was even a Spanish "Cortihan" (a leather-cutting facility where horse saddles and accessories were cut and made), at the corner of Jalandoni Street and Commission Civil Street in Jaro District, fronting the present WWII American Cemetery and SM Hypermart -Comnission Civil Jaro store. As a kid in the 1960s, I would often pass by this shed, with its pungent smell of leather. A "Cortihan" is a place or shed where dried leather was cut into shape for horse-riding equipment like saddles, etc.

Fancy and regular alike. For about 50 cents you can go to little food stalls and they will cook it up and give it to you in a plastic cup. So you can get that nice heated up plastic nutrition too.
