A Disneyland ride is returning to Marceline, Missouri - Walt Disney's Original Main Street USA

There’s more than just Main Street to see; Walt’s Stomping Grounds, Elias Disney’s farm, the reconstruction of Walt Disney’s backyard barn - signed by D23 members and cast members and every other kind of Disney fan - and best of all, the Walt Disney Hometown Museum, full of thousands of rare Disney artifacts, letters, photographs, and more.
But best of all, and fittingly, Marceline is home to the ONLY Disneyland ride to ever leave the park and be reinstalled somewhere else. For years it was decommissioned and sitting in storage, but now it’s coming back: THE MIDGET AUTOPIA! See the progress of this amazing Disneyland relics return, as well as never before seen vintage footage of its days as a Disneyland attraction!

That museum in Marceline is a true Disney gem. Our tour guide was Kay. She is the one that lives in Disney's old home and maintains that barn and surrounding property. She is also in one of the photos on the wall as a teenager when Walt brought the Autotopia to his home town. She has done a lot to keep up the history of Walt's childhood and hometown.
Justin, I can't thank you enough for these videos. Not only are they entertaining and inspiring, they are informative. I have always believed that Walt Disney is the embodiment of American Exceptionalism or as American as Mickey Mouse. As you have explained in your many videos, the ripples from Disney's dreams, inspiration, toil and boldness, have traveled across the world and are still reverberating to this day. Walt Disney, a true icon amongst men and bigger than Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Rockefeller put together.

I've done nothing in my life to set me apart from most folks but the story behind Walt's farm home and barn brings back memories of my childhood and visits to the farm where my dad grew up. My grandparents lived in Indiana and visits to their farm were magical, I'm in my sixties and I can still remember the smell of the hay in the barn and swinging from a rope, hayloft to hayloft. Oh how many times was I Zorro or Captain Kid swinging on that rope! Their farm house was two story and the top story was one big bedroom for my dad and all his brothers, nine boys and two girls in their family. I remember sleeping up there in one of the beds, windows open and a gentle breeze passing through during a summer rain, with the thunder in the distance sounding like bowling balls rolling down the alley. Man to be a kid again visiting that farm would be awesome!

I love Marciline missouri it is truly the birth place of the Disney Magic and the children of marciline are really going to enjoy the Midget Autopia a piece of history comes alive.

Go to the Unsinkable Molly Brown’s birthplace in Hannibal while you’re there! The tiny house she was born in still stands and is a museum. She lived there before moving to Leadville, then striking it rich in the gold mines and moving to a large house in Denver that is now the Molly Brown House Museum!

I think it was your video that inspired me to visit Marceline a few years ago. The old farm is a special place to spend some time and reflect on things. One thing I noted is how a piece of playground equipment at the park with the pool and fishing pond, looks like the steamboat from Steamboat Willie. The coolest part of my trip is going in the building by the museum where they have an exhibit on the railroad and it’s connection to Marceline. I was able to look through an old employee seniority list and find the name of a friend’s father from when he worked there. Made the trip all the more worth it.

It makes so much sense that Walt would create a place where people can live their childhood since he never really had much of one. Also, it has to be some sort of sign that the mouse ran by Justin when he was talking about Walt's legacy!

We went to Marceline for the first time this past week. We are die-hard Disney fans and looking at property there. Do you have any idea why the town isn't total Disney? The museum is beautiful and an amazing tribute to this small-town genius of a man, and the park is great. You can definitely tell driving down Main Street that it inspired Walt's Main Street Disneyland. I must say though that we were surprised that there's hardly any signage coming into Marceline, no signage at all coming into town on Hwy 65, and 2 tiny signs on Hwy 36, almost a downplay of this gigantic Disney legacy. Once we found out about Marceline and the impact this community made on Walt Disney, it became a big deal to us and a must-see destination. As a Disney fanatic, I just wanted more DISNEY. Marceline should be seen and known to everyone who loves Disney and for those of us who are true fans for over 40 years wanted even more! Definitely worth the visit though!!! Made me misty and gave me goosebumps!

Justin - next time you’re in Marceline, take a quick drive over to Brookfield. Just a few miles way. You’ll notice it’s layout more closely resembles Disneyland’s layout. My theory is Walt must have also spent some time in Brookfield inspiration from there. My grandfather also grew up in Marceline. He and Walt missed each other there by only a couple years.
Never thought I’d ever put Missouri on my must visit list, but here I am.
I WAS THERE TODAY! What a coincidence!! Me & my mother are visiting from Stockton, CA. My cousin who lives in Slater, MO, drove Me, my Mom, her Mom & our other cousin who has been there before. This day was awesome! Did you have lunch at Ma Vic's Corner Cafe? I recommend the onion rings & their signature dessert.

Great video Adam. Just one little historical hiccup at 2:08. Walt Disney was born in 1901 and the first radio broadcast was in 1895, and the first air conditioning unit was made in 1902. so radios and air conditioning were around during that time, but they weren’t in widespread product yet, except for the military for radios. Also, this place looks a lot different in the photo from before and from Main Street because the imagineers wanted to capture the turn of the century America in Main Street. But great video!
Great video, this one actually inspires me because I myself am an artist. My childhood hero wasn't Superman, or Batman, or Spiderman or any of them, it was Walt Disney, for as long as I can remember I have been so influenced by Disney and was wanting to work for the Disney company as an imagineer/cartoonist, I have always loved that Disneyland was meant for the whole family. Disney has inspired me so much throughout my 35 years of being alive, and still inspires me. Thank you for this video sir.

I also am really obsessed with all things Walt (although I have not yet been to Marceline) but seeing the Dreaming Tree as well as the new track for the Midget Autopia made me well up with tears. It was nice to meet you last Fall at Epcot (I was the one in the ECV)
Never knew there was another Walt Disney elementary school. I went to the one in Levittown, PA before going to Celebration K-8 and Celebration HS. He decorated the entire inside. Every classroom was named after a Disney character. The same style cut outs of characters that used to be down in the utiladors of MK across from the Mousketeria are in the theater of the school.
I always liked to think Walt's Florida Project idea came from visiting Levittown and thinking neighborhoods like that were nifty and wanting to improve on that.
I almost bought an entire old building out there once for $100 at an auction but it sold for $300 haha oh well i still enjoyed my day after!
