Well this game felt like a parallel universe Games of Throne - Marquise Lannister losing allies and hiding down in Kings landing's keep, Eyries of the North trying and failing to get back some control of their regions...and both of them, most of the game, simply not believing in the growing threat of the White Duchy Walkers beyond the Wall/under the ground...thinking these were just stories or bots to scare kids at night.....but once they came out, it was already too late for the livings in Westeros woodlands.
What a comeback from Max. Well deserved visit to Tablenauts!
Underground Dutchy is probably my favorite faction. Root gameplay is what I discovered the channel through, and it's still my favorite type of content on the channel. I also can't wait for Oath.
Making up a whole new definition of "Clock-wise" xD
Even if the Vagabond is not in the game, it's important to set up the items in the supply for 2 reasons. First thing is that items cannot be crafted if there are no more items in the supply, they are a limited resource and the only way to keep track is by having the items out. So if both Root tea items have been taken, nobody can craft Root Tea anymore. The second is that you're playing with the Exiles and Partisans deck and in that deck there's a card called League of Adventurous Mice. To use League of Adventurous Mice, you must exhaust (flip over) an item you have crafted in your crafted items box to take an action. If you're not taking the items, there's no way to track how many of these actions you can do should you get that card crafted. Also, Eyrie scores only 1 point for the Tea since they are not the Builder Leader.
Would be great to have a weekly episode of this. Just relaxing to watch
Honestly these three factions are my favorite way to play three players. It always goes super wild every time.
I love your Root gameplay. I would really enjoy seeing you do a base game 3 or 4 player. I can't find any really good ones anywhere else

I always love it when you have gameplay videos of Root. I just want to point out some mistakes I've seen (so every one can learn) :
- 7:30 -> when Alex crafted an item (worth of 2 pts), he should have received only 1 pts instead of 2 pts, because he have Despote as a leader and Eeries hates crafting (passive). Was noticed at 17:09 in the video tho
- 13:45 -> Jesse crafted 1 card with only 1 workshop that required 2 workshops. Also noticed at 21:33.
- 42:10 -> (Nvm this bullet, it's the king of the hill point) I don't think Eeries get points for crafting a Roost if I remember correctly, but I might have not seen something. So I think Alex should only have get 1 point there instead of 2.
There is probably more but I'm not finished so :)

Got into the base game this christmas, and got hooked immediately. Your content is tickling my interest for the expansion packs too, and also clearing up SO MANY THINGS that were unclear at first! Love the banter, love the matchups!

The moles and crows are two of my favorites, for sure. And having a third militant faction AND two additional maps to play on? You really can't go wrong with Underworld.

The Eyrie are my favourite. Felt like birds constantly killing themselves flying into windows at the keep. the carnage!

I am noticing a few things that I have been playing different with my group:
1) we do place the items in the crafting section, even when there is no vagabond, because it seems there's a rule that if the item you aim to craft is not available, you can't craft the card. Edit: they follow that rule by checking what they crafted, the tokens can also help for visual aid, though.
2) Whenever we destroy Buildings of the Marquise, they go out of game, because returning them to the board would mean their points can be scored again, unlike the Eirye, they only score the right-most one, so they can return to the board without affecting scoring.
2) Would be wrong and hamper the Marquis. Destroyed buildings go back to the faction board, may be re-built, and points earned again. Same as with Woodland Alliance whenever Sympathy Tokens are destroyed.

Not using the item tokens is crazy. When you remove cards from the deck instead, you throw off the suit balance of the deck AND it affects certain crafted cards like League of Adventurous Mice. Plus they are so cute. Otherwise, I love to see all the Root content. Keep it up!
More a set up thing - it was late. We never had to reshuffle - but your point is accurate!

I'm always using tokens of thing to craft just to remember that e.g. only 2 tea pots can be crafted throughout a game. If players already crafted those 2 then you cannot do that and can't get extra points for crafting that card
Not to mention that there is a card in the deck that lets you use crafted items as if you were the vagabond AND that keeping cards as reminders next to the board (which I believe they do) messes with the odds for suits as well as for craftable cards.

Still not using those item chits just because you don't have a Vagabond, huh? ;) You know, you should start getting used to using them more often what with the Heckin' Warlord's mechanics of interacting with them (but also just because they're super helpful at keeping the play session from accidentally crafting more of anything than they're allowed to).

Am I missing something or did the marquise make a mistake at 28:12? He has to move from a mouse clearing but moved from two fox clearings instead. Always great to see some Root videos from you guys by the way!!

18:32 you made a mistake. Undefended buildings take 1 point of damage automatically. He would have been able to build his roost. Rule 4.3.2, III
does the riverfolk and the corvid conspiracy work with bots? Like in an 1 or 2 player game with 2 clockwork bots, how does the trading with riverfolk work?

Nooooooo Eyrie misplayed super hard at 30mins, he shoulda gone to turmoil because he didn’t move FROM a mouse clearing (moved into one) but from what I’ve previously seen from y’all you must move from and not into :(

Were you guys counting the crafted items somehow? I just couldn't see them at the table. If playing by the rules, if the items are out of stock, nobody else should be able to craft them.

It's quite easy once you've played it. I'd suggest getting the digital app and learn it that way.
Just starting watching I think at this point you need to start saving to visit SUSD as soon as international travel becomes safe. Would be even better if unannounced and you streamed the whole thing!

I have to say, I am quite disappointed with the dig at SUSD just because they dislike a a game. Cmon, be better than this. They are already harassed from AR realms, they don't need you jumping in.

SU&SD is awesome. They shy away from games that require allot of investment, like GO, chess or Root, but since the average boardgamer has tons of games they only play once or twice that's practical and good advice.
Maybe not done in the most effective fashion - but it’s a running joke from the podcast Alex and I run. I enjoy them a lot :) just don’t agree with their tastes at all!

@@Quackalope Hey, my tastes are usually different than SUSD, but they put real thought and real concerns($$) behind their criticisms, so I always find them valuable.
This running joke isn't a good one and can be easily be interpreted as supportive of certain bad behavior by some fans.
I don't agree with all your opinions too. I love Arkham Horror LCG and I think it's one of the best coops around and only Spirit Island come close. I don't go around jokingly dissing you guys to my friends for this reason, because not everyone will get the joke and this might prevent them from enjoying your content.
You can do better and it's not that hard.
