I have one of these, it is amazing! Probably the most versatile single channel tube amp ever built. You can get everything from ratty Marshal to thick Mesa tones out of it.

I do love the Atomica in the Axe FxIII and I use the negative feedback a lot with it.
Nik is a great guy, I bought a Yeti 50 with some changes a few years ago.

That things a beast Leon. With the girth up and the master up it sounded like you didn’t even need the depth control. That IR sounds sick👍

For some odd reason, Friedman and some early high gain marshall mod-ers prefer a low resistor value(and sometimes from the 8 or 16ohm tap) which makes the amp sound dark, "polished", tighter, warmer, refined, according to their own subjective adjectives. I've been doing that low nfb resistor on the 8ohm tap on my early days of modding, but after a while I figured that brighter is better and tighter. It really shows how we subjectively throw adjectives to define sound 😂

Your guitar posture is always phenomenal. You always look so relaxed. I'm so jelous xD
Sometimes i'm like "how does that guitar holds so well without a strap"
The amp sounds fearlessly agressive and beautiful.

@@LeonTodd The left leg thing was a game changer for my back. Now if I could just get my picking hand to relax a bit. I learned the chugga chuggas when I was a kid and was always so tight. Fast forward 25 years later and I still have an issue with it.

I can't believe you still play a Fractal live after playing through that amp. I dig the Fractal stuff but nothing beats the real thing baby! In ears just take all the fun out of it for me.

That amp is awesome! The fact you worked with the builder just makes it extra special....to my untrained ear's, it sounds like you can get pretty much every shape of tone with the girth control....add pedals, and your ready for any gig?

My favorite mode of my Mark V is Xtreme- silly name for it btw, the Mark IV and Crunch modes have more gain- but I love it because it removes all the negative feedback from the circuit. It makes the sound louder, sure, but it's a lot more than that. It opens up the midrange, lets it blossom more, and the whole sound just explodes off your pick in a really satisfying way. 'Girth' is a good name for it, lol

I love your playing. It has a lot of joy in it. That’s a great sounding amp. You got it sounding similar to an SLO.

  • @Mindaugas.R

I have this amp, for me girth control is a little bit similar to tone control on overdrive pedal. You can use it for how much tightness you need, it adds brigtness to the sound if you turn it more and probably helps to cut through the mix. I’ve recorded one song with this amp and even though it’s technically one channel amp, there’s so many options on it. Very versatile for the studio recordings, you can get almost perfect cleans using low input and edge switch really helps.

  • @v2saatana
    @v2saatana 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Your in-room sonic impressions might be opposite to what the girth control is actually doing in the circuit. The girth pot controls the resistance in the negative feedback loop (NFB), so as you turn up girth, you reduce NFB. With Girth at zero, the NFB reduces power-amp gain by about 10-12dB; with girth at full, the NFB reduces power-amp gain by about 3-4dB. That is why it is louder when girth is turned up (the amp has more of its 'open loop' gain. The amp will be tighter with more NFB (less girth).

Sounds good, but I think your preference is to keep the bass a bit low. I always want to reach into the screen and turn the bass up on the amp settings ha! @7:00 If the bass was turned to about 8-9, middle down to about 4, and gain up to 10, add a Boss SD-1 and NS-2. I bet that would sound sick

Honestly, I feel Ceriatone should be synonymous with their 2202: it is the amp Marshall refused to build for almost half a century, doubly so considering it is a proper 20W conversion of the 2203 circuit while the 2204 was and is not a proper 50W conversion.

Leon, let’s be honest here: you gonna tell me that Ax Fx or other modeler amps give you the same feeling playing through them as a real amp? Sure, maybe when you’re just running into a DAW with an Ox or whatever attenuator you have, but let’s be real here:
Real amp into cabs at a healthy (loud as f***) volume is why we play.
