My last tagged fish (sturgeon) was tagged for just over 11 years. It was aged when first tagged at 17 years old, putting it at 28 years old when I got it. It grew 9 inches in that amount of time. Love getting info back from tag reports.

My personal opinion it does help if you are fishing private lakes or ponds

Well I am not sure too.... Catfish are very different.... When I started watching the video.... I thought how cool to see the all the information.... The long term data would have been great to see...
Maybe Bass Pro could tag some of the Catfish they have and could watch over the years how the tags hold up.... It would be good to see if the Catfish body expelled it.
    Thank you for the information.

I have caught several catfish in my local lake that had zip ties wrapped around the boney part of the fin on their back. I think this was an attempt by someone to do the same type tagging in this lake. No info was on these tags but would probably only provide info if the one who tagged it recaught it. The fish that I have caught with these tags all had different color zip ties so maybe a fisherman has private records on it.

At our last catfish tournament with KoolCats Tournaments here in Oklahoma on Keystone Lake.... we had a blue cat that was weighed in that had a black zip tie on the fin your talking about.... You could tell it been on there awhile too. No one had any ideal why.

Interesting theories on tagging catfish and them falling off their skin. It seems very reasonable that that could happen in those fish. Thank you for this podcast. Although I don't tag fish personally, I find it interesting.

I have caught hybrids on norman with the tags, also I got about 50 tagged over 30 lbs in wylie and you are the only one that has caught one of them.....I'm beginning to think its a waist of time.

Good info Dieter. I wonder if you placed the tags in a different area maybe near the dorsal fin if youd get different results. Just a thought.

Dang. Just saw this one. Wife and I were talking about tagging the other night to see if we are catching the same fish in the same area. Doesn't seem like it'll be worth it to invest into it.

The problem with the tag fish is a lot of people don’t do the right thing like they pull the tag out and don’t report it. Some people don’t know how it works they take the tag out and let the fish go so the tag won’t show back up if the fish was caught again. Some people can’t read the writing on the tag because of how small the tag is. I was fishing at my local dam and ran into another fisherman that had a tag in his car that he had for two years and didn’t do anything with it. I even explained to him what to do but he still didn’t do the right thing I offered to do it myself but he said he would do it later. Which I’m sure he didn’t.

Everyone that catches a catfish in wylie alway,s know,s if it,s one you caught, because of the hole in it,s lower lip from your bogie grip.
