I'm just gobbling up all your videos the whole day because your presentation is just excellent, it makes me and I'm sure a lot of people want to really fix up their gardens! Going to the garden center this weekend :D
Hi Laura , I celebrated my 2nd year in my home this year July 2 . It's been a heart breaker at times but , my faith , and rebirthing throwaway plants ( like you )and with a few good hand tools have given rise to Unspeakable Joy, and Peace in me . Amazing ! I am so Thankful what I do have ; GOD HAS BLESSED ME ABUNDANTLY . I want both Aaron and You to know jow much I appreciate both of you and Garden Answers .🤗 It has taken me back when I was much younger & stronger and memories flew 🦋 by . Thank you so much One lesson I have learned : Listen To The Educated Landscaper and Your Own Education ( G.A.☆) .🤔 Lesson in Life : Those Who Like To Advise Don't Often Take Their Own Advice . Just Move On And Love Them Anyway 🌬 💞. I'll get to it later ; enjoy the weed display for now .🤗 Giggle as you as grow. 🌻
Laura & Aaron, in case you didn't know, you bring so many joy & happiness! You are like a Vitamin B12 shot; I'm ready to get out in my own garden. I found a source in my zone 9 area for wood chips, hooray! I have mostly sun, just a small area with shade created when we planted a Crepe Myrtle after Hurricane Katrina. It's grass now, but my plan is to create a no dig garden using wood chips & compost. I want to try Heuchera & Hosta. God bless you Laura, Arron, Benjamin & Samantha Grace, and Thank you for what you do.
Love the reviews you do! You are so knowledgeable about the flora in so many areas, especially my zone. Thank you for the pictures and explanations and labels you provide.
I discovered Proven Winners by watching Laura's videos. They are not always easy to find in Northern Ontario, Canada. Supertunias especially are hard to find. Hydrangeas are easier. I have recently become enamored with Hydrangeas. Because of where I live and the fact the I am a terrible gardner, and our soil is very bad, I am sticking to Panicle varieties. So far so good. LimeLight, Fire Light and Little Quick Fire all doing fabulously thanks to your videos.
Hi Laura! Thank you once again for all of the comprehensive information you always include in your videos. Our south and west facing foundation gardens have transitioned from full sun to, partial sun to, full shade over the 45 years we have lived here. Your picks for shade and part shade have introduced me to a few different species that I have yet to try! We are in zone 4b here in Ontario Canada where we live so, winter hardiness is a must. Nice to see all of your 2021 projects coming along so well. Can’t wait to see the new greenhouse build! Have a blooming good day!
Hi Laura! Love watching you. I’m in zone 10a. We had to cut down two trees that left us in only full sun. Planting some fruit trees that I’m hoping will give us some shade in a couple of years. So gardening does definitely teach me patience. You’ve showed me what I can look forward to. So grateful for you.
I was watching a video about vegetable gardening. It recommended to crush your egg shells leaving somewhat larger chunks. Snails, slugs, and other soft body bugs? will shy away because the shells are too rough for them to travel over. I know no one wants egg shells in their flower beds but if your plants are large enough to cascade over, no one would ever see the shells. Very informative video. Learned a lot. Thanks! 👍
I love my Proven Winners perennials from Walters Garden. Better yet, Walters Garden is so close to me. 10 minute drive. Spring Meadow is also 10 minutes away for all of my Proven Winner Shrubs. Thanks A and L.
Well said; Laura. So knowledgeable of perennial plants that i've been asking my self where and how to take care of my few perennials. Thank you so much for sharing your tons of ideas. Love it!!!
Thank you for this video it’s sooooo helpful. The info you give on each plants from watering to being deer resistant is extremely helpful. I have learned so much from watching you. My garden is looking really pretty and I’m having a great time working on it:) Have a blessed week:)
Hi Laura! I have planted perennials this year and am hoping you could do a video about dividing them. Fall, spring, summer, how to know when to divide them, etc. Thank you! Blessings to you and your family!
Hi Laura, I LOVE your videos! Question....can you do a video on all the beautiful planted trees/topiaries you have behind you in this video? They are so pretty, I love that whole ambiance you have going on!!
I often don’t appreciate black eyed Susan’s because they are wild in my pasture. They make me smile from memories of my children bringing me bouquets of them.
Huskers Red, Dark Towers and Dakota Verde Penstemon are doing wonderful in my garden. All very similar to Midnight Masquerade, almost no maintenance, tolerant of our high pH. My Huskers Red has reseeded itself, an I give the babies away to friends, they love it.
Love, love all your beautiful plants. Still looking around for high heat & humidity tolerant plants with plenty of blooms so all the butterflies and bees will be busy there having their own parties.
Great video!!I love it! I am a relatively new gardener, and I watched this a couple times and just yesterday planted some of these beautiful plants! I do have a question. As I pulled out some old dead plants, I noticed that some of the holes had quite a bit of water in them. ( I think that it is coming from my neighbor’s sprinkler system, probably a crack in the line).Since they don’t want to address the problem, I wonder if there’s anything that I can plant there that will live? I did put some rocks in the bottom of the holes, so maybe that will help?? Thank you!!
We are guessing there is something you could do to help this situation, talk to a professional landscaping company. Perhaps laying a layer of gravel under the soil will help. You need to try some plants that like wet feet, we call these bog plants, here is a link to some on our website, thanks for watching. www.provenwinners.com/plants/search/advanced
This video was extremely helpful information and beautiful pictoral examples. I have wonderful success with many types hostas, hakanechloa grasses, and several others you mentioned, here in western Oregon out near Sandy and Boring. It is the land of many plant nurseries and commercial growers farms out here!!
Beautiful perennials, I wish if i could have some of them here in South Florida zone 10b. Love all your videos Laura! You are so knowledgeable amazing 😻
Been watching you for some time and always admire that coffee cup PLEASE can you give me some info on it. Also, you inspire me to be a better gardener and to research before I buy and plant. You have saved me more times than you know. Very informative and knowledgeable. Keep up the good work.
"Let's talk Perennials" video didn't pop up on my subscriber notification. I fortunately was looking on Home page & found this::noticed it was sent out 5 days ago..5/23..weird^but got it now! Saved to share with other friends who only do perennials 🥴🤯☹️...:::: Kinda scardicats 😲 .My daughter is a "card carrying" scardicats too.🙄😏
One of Laura's top 10 quotes: "Leave me alone and let me be beautiful (Sedums)." This video is awesome - I need a nudge reminder for me to consider Sedums in the garden (not sure why!) - GREAT list to link to these flowers, above - thanks for this! Any idea if Boogie Woogie will make a return?
I so enjoy watching the Garden Answer!! Learning so much! Love the ribbon hosta, how elegant and beautiful. Also, that is such a pretty coffee cup, I want to get one. Is there a store online? 😁🌸
Great video Laura. I’ve watched it three times now. I didn’t know you should prune your geraniums. I’ve never pruned mine. What time of year do you prune them? Thank you 😊
Encourage new foliage and repeat blooming by cutting the stems to within 2 inches of the ground as soon as the blossoming period is over. As long as you give them adequate fertilizer and water, most kinds of geraniums can be cut back a second time, and will grow back and bloom for a third time in one season.
Ahh! Rudbeckia and Echinecea love them but unfortunately so does the groundhog in our garden. If we don't surround them with chicken wire fence in the beginning of season when the first tender leafs start to come up, the groundhog thinks it's an all you can eat salad bar. LOL. Any suggestions to keep him at bay or is the chicken fence my only option.
We tend to recommend Plantskydd spray for rabbits and deer, not sure if it would work on groundhogs. You can google the name of the spray and perhaps ask the company that produces it? Or ask at your local garden center.
I love your brick paved area... would you consider restructuring this area to work better with your garden? Big fan, love all you do. Sydney Australia ❤️
Alas, my deer did not get the memo re sedums as they snacked on them recently and left jus 3" of stems. Fortunately they are already starting to grow back.
Here is a link to our advanced plant search page, you can select the sun amount, and the desire to draw in bees, also note you might want to filter by annual, perennial or shrub too. www.provenwinners.com/plants/search/advanced
Laure you mentioned the Green e Envy Echinacea, I was working @ a garden center last year, that sure helped me build my perinals & tools, not my wallet, anyway I bought this when it came in because I feel in love w/ it, but it didn't come back this year, any idea what I could have done to cause that, so sad 😒
Please know this is not the Garden Answer TH-cam channel, it is Proven Winners TH-cam page. Without knowing where you live and when you planted this it is hard to advise you. Try again in early fall and water it well until the ground freezes in your area. And always plant varieties where recommended, full sun, shade etc.
Please note this is Proven Winners TH-cam page, not Garden Answer.....Salvia has lipped and lobed petals create a "landing zone" for pollinators - making it one of the top stops for pollinating insects. Veronica blooms mature from the bottom up, sometimes resulting in the tips of the blooms appearing green while the lower flowers are blooming. We hope this helps Nana!
supertuna vista how long does it take to start showing itself has a beautiful summer flowers I planted mine on Mother’s Day seems like it’s not doing anything, it’s in full sun well water and fertilize I’m just waiting for it to takeoff
Give it some time to settle in and get it's roots growing, mine have not done much either, water consistently, use quality water soluble plant food and wait for hot weather to kick in.
Great selection of plants. Slug pellets are really dangerous to wildlife that eat slugs. In the UK this means hedgehogs are affected. Really important to look for versions that do not injure cats and birds too. beer traps work well.
We added one to our line a few years ago, here is a link. You can use the Find a Retailer link on our website to find stores in your area, and this plant is also offered in our online store currently. Great idea! www.provenwinners.com/plants/sedum/rock-n-round-bundle-joy-stonecrop-sedum-hybrid
Laura, what do I do about the jaggers that started growing in my flower beds?? Have pulled then out root and all, sprayed the areas with weed killer but they come back...HELP !!!!
They would need to be perennial grasses that are 2-3 zones hardier than where you live, example, if you live in a zone 5, the plants would need to be hardy down to zone 3. Here is an article that might help, www.provenwinners.com/overwintering-perennials-shrubs
Dear beautiful Laura, I would like to know more about flowers that bloom every dry seasons, doesn't need to plan again another year, because I am in an area 🇮🇳 of heaviest rainfall, flowers simply get over watered and decay.
Could you label the ones she said are deer/rabbit resistan? I have planted so many perennials that are labeled deer resistant but still get eaten by the rabbits. I would love to plant something that isn’t eaten in a week.
Pulmonary raspberry splash 🏆🎖🎖. I have some growing in a difficult area; poor soil in complete shade under a scrappy hedge. All year round speckled leaves with pretty pink & blue flowers in spring/ summer. I've had them for 3 years and they've needed no attention from me plus slugs & snails leave them alone. I live in New Zealand where we have hot dry summers and a couple of frosts in winter. 😍
I love my Johnson Blue geraniums. I read that it is out of favor because it doesn’t bloom as long as other varieties, but I love the clear blue. I can also recommend Lullaby Baby daylily which I have divided and planted in several locations. The bloom is PERFECT. A lovely pastel peach color and the plant is so vigorous it makes you feel like a master gardener, even if, like me, you’re not!
Sounds like A nice colour, I will be on the lookout for it, meaning the day Lily, I ordered the blue geraniums and it's doing pretty good, but I don't think it will be blooming this year as it came bareroots
Hi my name is Radica from Trinidad and our garden centers dont have proven winners products in a variety i would love if you all could send me some of your plants for my garden i love watching all your videos on youtube
Laura is the reason I buy Proven Winner products.
Amen to that!
Yep I used to think they were a waste. Not anymore!
So true
Me too, I see the difference in the quality of the plants
Thank you for making gardening so enjoyable.
🙂
Our pleasure!
You are so good! I always love these types of recaps. I learn something new every time! Thanks, Laura!
