In this video I share a quick unboxing of my new JUKI MO-114D serger/overlocker machine.
I own several sergers and my JUKI sergers are by far my favorite. This model is an entry level serger that offers plenty for you to grow with if you are new to sewing clothes or using a serger.
Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see more serger project tutorials from me and what type of help you need to feel more confident with your serger.
Thanks for watching!

I have a Bernina serger, & it sits on the floor in my bedroom closet!! I could never get the hang of the threading part, but I was very happy when I did use it on some projects. I think easy projects with just a few parts to it, would be a great place to start. And, a real good close up class on how to thread the serger would be helpful.
I don't have a Juki but I have a Brother 1034DX and mine sat there for several months but I finally opened and used. I'm in love! It's actually feels easier to work with than my sewing machine!
Thank you for this!! Your other JUKI 2010 review helped me out so much before!! You’re the real MVP 🥳
Things that I would like to see: how to copy a t shirt that fits well and make a pattern from it and make some on a serger, how to make a dress from same pattern, i.e. lengthen the pattern, how to just get started with a serger. I bought a Brother 1034D and have never used it.
Oh Vanessa, You are an enabler, I really want one especially since You made this Juki look pretty easy to handle and not as intimidating as I used to think Sergers were! Thank You for Sharing!
Just in time, running to get my box, to follow along and open at the same time
Very cool serger! Thanks for posting!
This is the model I have, it's my first serger, and frankly, I love it, so can't see ever buying a new one. I laughed when I saw the same pink polyesther fabric that came with mine :)
Yay! It's such a solid workhorse. Glad you enjoy yours!

Oh this serger looks so pretty and easy to use.
I’ve never had a serger and my mom just gave me her baby lock serger this past weekend. I am glad to see this video, as it answered a couple of general questions. :) I whipped up some pillows to throw in the bottom of a teepee I made for the grandkids. I am thinking of making some cloth napkins to take the place of paper. I would love to see how to do that. Thanks!
I'm so excited!! Ive had this machine for years and have never used it (I know, so bad). Looking forward to learning and making tons of projects!!
Such a cute little serger! I just figured mine out & it took several good TH-cam videos but I had almost given up trying to figure it out. Thankfully I’m happily making tons of reusable wipes, napkins, unpaper towels, etc. I am having trouble making the round makeup remover pads since the circles are small. I can’t quite seem to get them to feed well enough to look good but I’m still practicing on those.
Hey there....nice looking machine girlie!
Hi Vanessa. I have the JUKI MO2000-QVP. I got it about a year ago, and all I know how to do is a 3 thread overlock. I don’t really know how to secure the stitches when starting and stopping, so I do that on my regular sewing machine. I feel like there is so much to know, and I’d love to make better use of my machine. I hope you are considering doing some beginning serging classes so I can utilize my machine more. I have made several of your bags, and have only figured out how to use my serger on the inside seams to finish off. PLEASE offer a comprehensive set of serging classes from novice to advanced, with projects!!! It will be worth every penny!!!
You rock!!! I love your tutorials. ❤️
I have that serger and love it!
I need to start using my serger more often
I'll be working on some videos to share some project ideas with you!
@@TheCraftyGemini this is gonna be good......thank you!
I have a Juki MO-655. I wish that I could use it more often. Tried sewing a pillow for my pups and the stitches came undone in some areas. Had to hand sew close. Please help from threading the machine on up. Looking forward to seeing your videos. Been watching you for many years keep up the great work!
I have a Brother serger. Would like to serge a complete basic t shirt 👕 on it. Thanks
I am thinking of getting a serger but am a bit intimidated by the threading so some slower videos on threading would be helpful. I want one to sew knits, especially t-shirts, dresses and pajamas. Maybe leggings too. I have done some on my regular sewing machine and they are fine, I just think the serger finish looks so much better and the sewing goes faster because you stitch and finish the raw edge in one step. This machine looks like a good basic model that would fit my needs! Also, when to use which type of stitching, 3 thread overlock, 4 thread etc.
I just inherited a serger that was my aunt's and have never used one. I would like to know the best uses for it and try a couple of projects. A dust cover for it would be a good starter project, maybe some pillows.
I have a Juki 654D and only ever used it a few times to finish the seams on a project. I am sure there are many more ways to use it. I would love a course that covers it.
I have two Bernini sergers do not use as often as I used to. Should trade one in for a cover stitch.
We can make our own dust cover, if need be and a thread catcher 😊
This is true!
I have this serger and use it often…but I know it can do so much more than just 4 thread serging. I’d like to see how to change to 2 and 3 thread serging AND how to alter the stitch width when serging. I use the “hope and pray” method. Thanks Vanessa.
how do you use the markings on this serger to serge off ends with a seam allowance? are those markings from the left needle? they seem further away vs the 654 markings
I just received an older but brand new still in the box Elna 683 serger. Would love to learn how to use it and simple projects. Thanks
I always wanted to get one but to afraid because I don't know how to use it. But seeing you, you make it look easy. I also wonder now that I've seen you work it. Can it be used instead of a sewing machine for all garments?
I have a White (Viking) 734D that I’ve had for at least 30 years. It has been a workhorse but the plastic is starting to discolor on the case and I’d like a new one. I will donate my White to someone who could use a good serger. This one looks excellent to me but what makes it an entry-level machine? And what would you recommend, not going to an industrial machine, for a serger a level or two above this one?
Hello Vanessa I have a brother 1034 serger. I really would like to learn about the different types of projects I can use it for. I just use one setting and never touched the buttons because I afraid of changing the setting.
HI!
Would you recommend this for a beginner?
Absolutely!
Nice video! Can you do a tutorial on either one of these patterns or both (simplicity S8520, and McCall's L9482)? I would like to learn how to make and give away for Christmas gifts
Mine has a plastic cap in that clear case. What is that for???
To hold the thread cones or spools on their pin.
I have a Brother serger, and I am not thrilled with it - it’s very loud and clunky, and I have a hard time getting the differential feed and tension correct on knits. Have you used the Brother and, if so, how do you think the Juki compares? I have a Juki sewing machine that I love! I also tried a Juki cover stitch a few years ago, and it was like butter. Don’t know if I want to keep the Brother and save up for a cover stitch or if the difference between Juki and Brother sergers is significant enough to switch first.
Same here. I can't get my tension correct on my brother 1034d for nothing. I too also just bought a Juki sewing machine and love it. I need to see more about this serger to see if I want to even bother with sergers anymore
Hi Vanessa, I got the same overlocker and everything ok but one thing to ask you if you don't mind. Can I reduce the speed its too fast for me now maybe later on when I am used to it. Thanks and hope to hear from you. i have like and subscribe.
The only way to reduce the speed is to press on the foot pedal lightly. It takes practice to find the right amount of pressure that works for you. Just keep practicing and try not to floor the pedal. Happy serging!
@@TheCraftyGemini ok thanks I will do that.
Would love to learn all about serger I have one an old one but donot use it like I should the threading is hard work plus I problems understanding the button on side of the machine
I have an old one too & it took me a long time to finally figure it out but I finally did & I’m so happy! I’ve been making un paper towels & napkins along with other things & have had so much fun. I watched TH-cam videos & finally found a couple that actually helped me understand how to figure it out. Good luck. A vintage machine is still very useable! This Juki is so cute!
My grand-daughter wants me to my doll clothes and I'm interested in t shirts and pjs
People who sew don't need dust covers.
No free arm. Bummer.
