- Why does vinyl crackle?
Numerous reasons but mostly its debris, microscopic and otherwise that is between the grooves and is picked up as a crackling or a bump sound when the needle is moving over it. Scratches to a records surface also will cause noise and skips depending on the severity.

Even though im a 2000’s kids this is so satisfying, i have reccords and the blank parts sound like this and it satisfying as heck.
This is the sound of going home again. This is something that my generation grew up with. It is the sound of ANALOG.
Tuners and tape decks and turntables often had hiss.
Tuners had faint pops and crackle, as did vinyl. Even FM wasn't completely 'silent'.
I actually prefer hearing some artifacts of the analog age in my older music. I find it comforting, particularly in the modern times, with such prominent strife. And as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't detract from the music at all.... rather, I feel it adds character.
Oh yes. Back then we didn't mind a little bit of static or crackles. Now, many people would quickly flip to Spotify if the radio signal was slightly weak as they want everything so pristine.
There's a reason I still love AM radio as it can be very nostalgic
Growing up listening to my parents LP's on their Technics stereo - loved hearing this noise.

Kinda sucks when you have dust on your vinyl, that's why it sounds like this, always make sure you clean it!
I mean it's not bad, but I dont believe it's good for the record itself. but idk, I could be wrong.
Dust won't damage your records. But if you don't clean them before playing, the stylus may "bury" that dust in the grooves, making it a lot harder to remove.

Ah man I was listening to Everywhere at the End of Time when reading this and I realized the increasing distortions on the album are probably from more and more dust settling on our “record.” What a sad yet wondrous detail

using this for a music project, trying to replicate The Caretaker’s “Everywhere At The End Of Time” but with the music i listen to instead so it would simulate what dementia would be like for me (since one memories that is always held onto from dementia patients is their favorite song)
