I wish the battery was removable so I could take it to Catalina. Catalina Express requires the battery be removed to board...... Thanks for sharing!
Mike, have you considered offsetting some of the extender weight by switching to a DPX2? It would shave nearly a pound vs the coil I think, but not sure it’d be worth the shock performance trade-off?
So lets talk about that coil, and the weight of the bike, also when the bike is heavier just reduce both rebound speed a few clicks when you have the RE on, and that will help bring back some “playfulness”.
can you use the range extender instead of the main battery in the frame? this would be a nice option for long days on several trails in a confined area where you can swap out the battery for the extender you left in the car when it dies.

I can confirm my h15 rise with my 90kgs of meat and gear on it will make 2000m up on the internal 540wh battery, 2200m if I really push myself /too hard/. That is really impressive. I stress I ride mainly in eco and only super tech/steep sections will be tackled in trail/boost. I think it rides closest to analog bike you can get. Rear hub gave ghost in 200kms.
Did you charge the extender separately to the bike? Orbea state it can be done with bike and extender connected and both charge at the same time but can't find much info on this. Rise M20 540w with gen2 extender
I added one to my aluminum Rise giving me almost 900 watts, lets me do 30 mile rides without having to worry about running out of power with thousands of feet of climbing i take it off and put in my mule when done
Got mine the other day did 50 Miles in eco-and the extender was just about finished , the main battery didn’t even get touched unbelievable range very happy with it

Good feedback on the extender, I have mine arriving later this week. One other thing I did on mine was to put a 203mm rotor on the back and yes some might think it's overkill but I like the extra braking performance.
My 203/180 Galfer rotors were all black and smoking during a long descent. As I mentioned, 180mm Freeza rotors fade like 200mm standard steel rotors and are very light. Problem is you have to have Centerlock hubs
Putting the extender in the hip pack is very smart. I def felt the weight and had some regrets as well. I’m going to try the hip pack idea on my next ride. Thanks for the suggestion!
these are only minor gripes in my eyes. I love my Rise. Especially after turning it into a mullet and adding a coil shock like Mike. Planning to try it out at Northstar soon.

I am considering the rise aluminum version but seeing you blew through the RE in less than 8 miles seems pretty pathetic to me as far as riding range per charge and now I’m wondering if an ebike is worth it. I live in the Midwest where our hills only have about 400’ elevation but they are steep and I’m 65 now and tire out before I’m ready to quit for the day. Currently have a SC carbon Tallboy. 8 miles and 2200’ elevation in Boost is about what a range extender does for my weight (150-160lbs). I did a ride with 2 range extenders and in frame 360wh battery and did 50 miles, 10,600’ in about 5 hours moving time so it will get you some decent range.

Depends on your weight and fitness level. If you are pretty light and reasonably fit I would go with the carbon Rise. Otherwise the bigger battery may be a better fit. I noticed the weight as a lighter rider but a heavier rider may not notice
Perhaps its a matter of taste, but most mtb engineers I´we read say that weight ON the bike is better than on the rider. I have done som testing and agree to that.
Garmin 745. It’s newer so not supported yet by Orbea RS toolbox but Garmin has a STEPS EMTB app that works also. Apple Watch can show battery % as well using Stunlocker
Some of that lost playfulness you feel might be to the dampening characteristics of the bike, in stock form the Rise likes to "pop" over jumps. If you can try to up the air pressure in the front fork and increase the preload of the rear shock, you might get some of that playfulness back. On a different note, I wish the Rise came with 400Wh battery. I would personally probably never ever need a range extender.
Im also waiting on my extender but atm im not craving it. Did a 5000 feet climb within 2hours on sunday with 90% trail and 10% boost and coming from an acoustic bike its all i need. I got the extender for free on the purchase so i will test it for sure but over all i love the bike so far the way it is.

After renting a Rise and running down the battery in short order, I can say that I was not happy overall. I think it's an Ebike for people that don't really want or need an ebike. Especially at that price point, I'd get something that can hold up to a good days ride without having to put down more money on an ugly range extender. I also disliked the lack of a visible meter to let you know when power is getting low. Oh yes, I weigh 210lbs.
All of their marketing materials point towards riders that want to do a lot of work themselves in exchange for a more natural feeling bike. I think you are right though. Most owners of the Rise are in decent shape
No, just deal with the weight until it runs out of juice. I have a 3-4 local trails that are 4000’ straight up and straight down. And a few that are 1800’up and straight down so it makes sense for these trails

I also use two 203 Trickstuff rotors and Trickstuff brake pads, works very good and feels exactly right :)

Problem is the bike’s weight distribution changes so theres adaptation required. Using a Hip pack allows the bike to feel consistent on the descents
I think the extender thing is some sort of half measure and if you need it a lot its probably better to go for a full fat ebike in the future.

If it pitches the bike more forward or downward pressure wont change that VS a well balanced bike.
Did you used the extender first till it drains, or you use it until the bike battery dies?...which one goes first?

If you changed the coil for an air shock then the difference would potentially outweigh the negatives of the range extender
