Glad you were able to snag a few things from a fellow colleague.
For the desks, you could do a horse shoe, but instead of rows in the middle, you could do smaller horse shoe, and just leave space to walk between the horse shoes.
That’s what I do and I love it!

I can't imagine having such a huge class! I think you are really make the space nice considering what you have to work with! Along with choice of different style of books maybe consider a menu of options for the book report. For kids who hate reading knowing they have even more work to do at the end of the book could be really daunting. Different ideas for a book report menu could be create a movie poster, or a trailer if this book was turned into a movie, I bet there is tons of ideas online!

I still suggest you put the kids desk against the wall and open a row in the middle to access you can add a small board where you can put their grades at the very entrance. Will help kids access to the rows easily and not many backpacks in the floor to skip and jump when they walk. Thing will set up as it goes once the kids are in the classroom and you will see. You look an awesome teacher and very organized. Have an awesome year. I love your videos.

Love your furniture! And it’s always wonderful to get free stuff, bless that teacher! What if you took the desks from the middle of each row and made a short row at the front? It wouldn’t be symmetrical, but it’ll give you an aisle down the middle and maybe give you a place for one more desk. I’ve tried the long rows before, and that creates a lot of traffic jams for young kids, much less bigger high school kids. Not sure if that’ll work with your new furniture, but if you return a couple of those cabinets up front, you may have room. Just a friendly suggestion, good luck!
I plan to have my desks with half on the left facing the other half on the right and I have a walkway in the middle. I have like 24 desks in my class though and my classroom is tiny aka cozy lol.
The vertical storage in you new cabinet is portfolio storage, large books, or anchor charts.

Make 2 horseshoes. bring the center horseshoe in towards the front by one desk, and you may have enough room. I've done the double horseshoes and it has worked well with that many.
39 is just so ridiculous! I hope that your largest class is less than 30. There is such value and benefit in having smaller class sizes.
My largest class will be 40 this year! Eek! I'm grateful to be at a new school, but this will definitely be something new for me :)

Where are the bookcases from that you put together?
