Amir - You are blessed with long fingers that can deliver amazing chords that are out of the reach of the likes of me with shorter fingers! I also suffer from brittle nails, so need to use picks for fingerpicking play, which restricts the downward strokes and hampers hybrid picking. Still, I try! This one came out when we were knee deep in combat in Vietnam. We were aware that our friends behind were becoming hippies yet we didn’t understand. Upon discharge I headed out on the road a finally understood. Being a hippie was some of the finest time of my life. This song says it all for me.

The "All across the nation ..." passage in this song is such a beautiful moment, is such an important part of this song, bringing a new energy, a freshness, like the rays of the early morning sun ...

Again watching with astonishment to your new cover. As usual you find the way to reproduce the ambiance of the original sound by playing positions of chords which give the desired ambiance. You are so accurate with "For those who come to San Francisco" with particular attention to chord progression having specific variation Em Am C | G Bm D . You know, there are easy chords but you don't fall into the simple progression. You do play them in positions that reproduce the magic sound of Scott McKenzie in 1967. The bass makes it and contributes efficiently to the reproduction of the magic sound. Love your work.

Actually, after the recording I suddenly found out that there are also a couple of cool acoustic guitar bends/licks on top of this unique progression in the last verse. I was kinda bummed that I didn’t play them ‘cause I love these little details… but what can I say, this particular take just felt too good to give up on and do another one.

Another fantastic job, though I was sure that would be the case before I clicked! I used to correspond with Scott McKenzie via email and when he was on Facebook, before he died. Super nice guy. Have you ever heard his song, "Hey what about me?" ? Anne Murray had a small hit with it and used it as the theme song on her TV show for a while I think back in the 1970s, but Scott never recorded it. He told me he hated his own recorded voice, so he did not Make that many records, preferring to perform live where I guess his voice didn't bother him.
Anyway, he shared an interesting story about how he wrote that song back in the 1960s heyday of Greenwich village, autobiographical about how he would try to walk around the streets at night anonymously, poking his head into different singing rooms and pubs, enjoying watching the crowd joyfully sing along.
