  • Angela Lansbury TONY wins '69, '75, '79, '09. For DEAR WOLRD, GYPSY , SWEENEY TODD, and BLITHE SPIRIT. Sadly, her first win for MAME was before the Tonys were nationally televised.
P.S Take note, the great Dorothy Loudon looses to Lansbury in '69 and ''79 for DEAR WORLD and SWEENEY TODD. Ironically, Loudon takes over for Lansbury in the tour of SWEENEY.

And she was probably 84 here. 90 when she won the Olivier also for Blithe Spirit, in 2015. But I can't believe it took until 2009 for someone to think of making her Madame Arcati - can't believe she hadn't played it already. I think I say that partly because her costume reminds me of the one she had in the Death on the Nile adaptation.

It's interesting watching Lansbury's win in 1979. She was then already in her mid-50s, and she may well have thought this was pinnacle of her career. And yet, her biggest success was still to come with "Murder She Wrote". And, she would go on to win two more Tonys (one for life achievement), receive multiple Golden Globe Awards, have a major part in one of Disney's most popular films of all time, and work steadily for another four decades. What a career, and what a talent.
