They want to me known for their own style and sound, tone. Sorry I’ve been in biz for 35 years and a music journalist. But I understand. Chris RIP and Ian are different in their own way. Also while Steve Morse is a great guitarists- for the most part they don’t have same sound. Ian’s voicing, clean lines, tone and style are very different. Ian’s dynamic use of scales is theoretically insane. His licks and riffs have more depth and his chops are over the top. I love Steve Morse. He’s awesome. Listen to Ian’s voicing and clean lines- it’s as if there’s a conversation going on - question and answer. He gives space in his voicing during his solos which adds such a nuance. Which is masterful playing and composition. Not to mention the layering of guitars - listen closely and one is playing an overlay of melody, the other is harmonic and Ian plays the riff mixed with intricate and perfectly timed notes up and down the fret board with crazy sonic scales. The guy is a genius. His knowledge and mad chops paired with his understanding Of theory edges him way out. He’s actually considered one of the best guitarists of our time. Well what do you expect from a Berklee College of music grad? He is so revered by other guitarists and musicians. Ok I’m off my soap box. Again great artists just not comparable in styles.

I know Ian’s hooked on the Suhr guitars but I’d love to see him give the Godin’s a go since they are hand crafted in Canada and are amazing underrated high quality guitars.
Ian is one of the greatest male vocalists in the business. Probably since modern records were made. Including F. Mercury, Chris Cornell & Robert Plant. He’s just got the range, the inflections and the mastery of a true vocal hero. Oh yeah, he writes great songs and plays guitar better than 99% of our rock gods. So yeah, there’s that too. I don't know what I like best about this song. Extremely well-crafted. Excellent vocals. Great guitar, bass and drum playing (I don't think their drummer gets enough recognition, either). There are parts of this that send shivers through me every time I listen to it. Another great tune from Big Wreck.
Saw them live recently, they opened for theory of a deadman when they should of been the headliner themselves. Love this band since it came out, its one of the few compact discs i still have left. Cheers everyone!

I can't believe I ever forgot about Big Wreck, I heard their new song on the radio it was fantastic (ghosts). Gonna grab their CD this weekend and learning a few tunes on the guitar. Great tunes and talent.
This is perfection in its execution and wonderful. For Big Wreck or Ian to be an "icon" or to reach more people, they have to have an edge, signature and a point of view that matters. Phenomenal musicians but they are not as "popular" as some other musicians who are maybe not as talented because those artist are understood and their music matters to many. They have a charisma and an identity. And Big Wreck could be fine with the fact they are not so popular.

Thornley sounds a lot like Cornell live now too though when they are both staying within their natural ranges. Even if Thornley can't hit the highs live either, he still sounds a lot better than Cornell on the studio recordings (beyond mid-range).

That's the baddest ass solo I've ever heard in a song. When I first heard it, I was thinking, "He's making fun of every shredder out there and doing it in 20 seconds..."..haha. That solo just comes out of nowhere and it's awesome and they are a great band. I played an opening slot with them way back in Evansville, In when they toured with "In Loving Memory of". They were awesome then too. I agree with Alan Peters too...Cornell has NEVER been able to reproduce live what he does in the studio and that's unfortunate. Thornley smokes him in that regard.

That solo is epic! It’s got varying dynamics and speeds, melody, and a phenomenal resolution with a mode change. Love it!

I am a drummer, I can play chromatic runs like that, but use four fingers. Thing I cant do is write a brilliant song like that. Awesome!!!

That's the baddest ass solo I've ever heard in a song. When I first heard it, I was thinking, "He's making fun of every shredder out there and doing it in 20 seconds..."..haha. That solo just comes out of nowhere and it's awesome and they are a great band. I played an opening slot with them way back in Evansville, In when they toured with "In Loving Memory of". They were awesome then too. I agree with Alan Peters too...Cornell has NEVER been able to reproduce live what he does in the studio and that's unfortunate. Thornley smokes him in that regard.

Don't compare... Ian is a genius and a very talented musician, but Cornell was a legend! Music of both is great.
I understand the comparisons but it really does nothing for either of them.
Ian doesn’t sound as much as Cornell as Johnny Strong does.
