- Sir Rod & the Blues Doctors, featuring Shaun Gussow on bass, busking at the 2024 Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. This clip begins with the outro of "Seventh Avenue," a song by Sterling "Mr. Satan" Magee and Jesse Stone, followed by the Ray Charles classic, "What'd I Say."
Sir Rod & the Blues Doctors consist of Rod Patterson on vocals, Alan Gross on guitar, and Adam Gussow on harmonica and percussion. (Shaun Gussow, sitting in, is Gussow's son.) Gussow and Magee worked together for decades as the duo "Satan & Adam." Patterson is Magee's nephew. Our latest album is "Keeping It in the Family."

AG, I first discovered you and Satan on the street in Harlem, what, 25 or THIRTY years ago? Awesome then. Awesome now. Love that you're still playing on the sidewalks. I was the guy who worked in radio, I think I was at WNEW-FM back then and actually played Satan and Adam on the air. Much love.
That's great to know. Thanks for your support then, and for those memories. We connected with a handful of local DJs, including Darren DeVivo on WFUV and the rotating cast at WKCR. Phil Schaap never had us on--he was a Bird guy--but he knew who we were and I'd occasionally have a chance to say Hi to him.
