When it comes to newbies I like byu is most ready for the weekly grind , ucf is the most exciting, but depth is going to be a eye opener for all 4 teams Welcome can't wait Wvu plays all 4 of you guys, good luck and we'll see you in the fall GO MOUNTAINEERS

A transfer ranking of 22 disproves this assistant coach. BYU was a fringe top 25 team with 80th ranked recruiting classes. BYU gonna smash it in the Big 12 imo.

I'm not sure how Cincinnati losing Luke Fickell and hiring a coach that Louisville wanted to fire doesn't make them the team with the most question marks entering the Big 12. Hell, even Houston and UCF went 8-5 and 9-5 against AAC schedules last year, it's not like they won't have a difficult time transitioning either. The biggest difference between BYU and them is BYU had a mickey mouse defensive coaching staff that has now been replaced with a proven defensive staff. My bold prediction is that BYU will be better than Houston, Cincy, and UCF next year.

    • @garrettruell1820

I definitely agree with BYU being better than Cincy and Houston. UCF has a fairly easy schedule which helps them a lot

The Big 12 schools don't have a lot of respect for the quality of football in the PAC 12, which is where BYU's P5 opponents mostly came from when they were an independent.
The Big 12 is, in fact, a massive step up. Also, having to play a full conference schedule, something BYU hasn't done in my lifetime, in a conference that has a reputation for being a knife fight in a phone booth is another layer of difficulty.

I wish BYU would schedule Memphis. Memphis and Boise will play eachother 4 times by 2031. And Memphis and BYU Miami Beach bowl is one of the best games I've ever been to. Even if BYU wouldve won. That was a hell of a ball game!

  • @kennethshaw626

I would guess byu will go 6 and 6 but I think there is a 4 game swing. I expect 4 games being really close. If byu stays fairly healthy I believe 8 wins are possible. If they have bad luck in close games along with key injuries then winning only 4 games becomes a possibility.

"Culturally they won't change, so the quality of athlete they recruit probably won't change just because they are a P5 program now".
I think, unfortunately, that is just about correct. And because of that I have the most longterm questions about BYU. All of the other Big12 addees are from mega recruiting areas, don't have the cultural glass ceiling, and so the step up to a P5 should boost their recruiting significantly. BYU could be setting themselves up for non competitiveness.

There’s truth in the comment. The bottom has fallen out of most every Kalani season except the covid year with a weaker schedule. They do well until after game 3 or 4 then can’t beat podunk FBS school because of injuries. Hopefully they will be able to build up some depth and have a few healthy defensive backs in the Big 12. If they can’t stay healthy, this next season will be miserable in November. There are a lot of blue goggles in here.

I can't see BYU winning more than 4 games this year maybe 5 if we get lucky. I only see 2 potential wins in the big12. BYU is going to need a lot of help to overcome D line depth issues and the mess that Tuiaki left. Slovis better be handing the ball off and occasionally throwing the Play action because he is not very good and BYU might have to go to a backup.

Big 12 "Culture" programs: Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech - don't think a good culture will surprise anybody.
That being said, I don't see BYU ever being a bottom-third Big 12 program. It'll take some acclimation, but BYU has talent.
