@@GetGlamFam hi 👋🏾 question, I over processed my relaxed hair and it's very stringy and easily breakable and chunks have come out, is there a high chance those steps you just gave will completely restore my hair to being healthy? Or do i need to start over and cut it all over?
"Who the Hello Kitty is this female that yo ex-whatever..." You took the words right out of my mouth! These are fabulous tips for anyone with overprocessed hair, and I've seen several cute braided styles for little girls on your channel that I'm sure any little girl would love to wear. Thank goodness you're here for her and her mom!
+Rowena Sanders Lol chile people always want to test folks sanity! When I read her comment it instantly had me like “hold up! This soggy heffa did what?!”
I grew up during a time when most black girls got their first relaxer at around the age of 12. Unfortunately, the thinking was that it was time for "grownup" styles which meant chemically straightened hair. My mother wasn't the best at doing hair, so it was easier for her and me to style relaxed hair. I wish I never got a relaxer because my fine hair and relaxers didn't do well together. I am so glad that there's so much information about natural hair so parents don't have to believe that relaxers are the only option. I've been natural for over 10 years now and I'm learning how to care for and love my natural hair.
+I totally understand! Part of it is a cultural issue, and the other part is such heavy marketing! Especially when kids and parents alike are seeing these “just for me” commercials and feeling like it’s somehow more gentle. I’ll deal with that more in an upcoming video though. Thank you all for watching!
I find this funny that I literally seen a video on Instagram and I sent a comment asking you about overprocessed hair and now I'm on TH-cam and I'm introduced to your channel and you're talking about overprocessed hair. This is God-sent. Thank you for the info.
It's 2021, and due to COVID, I put a relaxer in my nature hair and it's also breaking. I came across your channel, it's simple and straight to the point. I love that!
#AskLinwood I have a question about silk pressing. The question is simple. "How much is too much?" I've seen people silk pressing after every wash but I think that will lead to dryness, breakage and over processed hair eventually.
+Ali Cole it definitely can, and frequent heat over time does lead to heat damage. If you are wanting to make sure your Hair stays as healthy as possible, always deep condition prior to pressing, choose an appropriate temp for your individual hair, try not to make multiple passes on the Hair, and be sure to wrap the hair at night. Now for people who are looking to wear their hair straight majority of the time, once a week (after a proper cleanse and following the rest of the steps I laid out) is fine. For those who wish to wear it curly most times, I would do no more frequent that once monthly. (And still follow the other tips I’ve laid out.
I want to see how to fix overprocessed relaxed hair. A professional hairstylist did this to me and then said there was nothing they could do to fix it. I cried. Cut off 15 inches of hair.. Help me strengthen and save what's left.
I just love your channel because it's informative, funny, self empowering, and love your interactions with your beautiful family. I would love to hear the story of how you and your wife met.
Wow. Idk why people would not find any of your videos helpful. I'm just a simple "internet sponge" that soaks up all the education I can get. And all of your videos are great!!
+Mokakes typically I would try to incorporate deep conditioning weekly, always with moisture, and from time to time coupled with protein. Honey! Hop about the “cut a soggy heffa” train, we can make an event of this!
As usual your advice is spot on and very clear. You are definitely a teacher inside and out. Thanks again for your wonderful and informative video. Have a blessed day.🙏🏾💜🙏🏾
YOU ROCK! I wish I could get to you but I'm going to take all of your advice. Thank You and please continue to inform us about the best ways to care for our hair and our bodies.
I think the best advice is to keep her hair in a protective style. Or make sure it is freshly done in a protective style when she goes with her father. And yes the girlfriend has done this to make you upset. That way she can transition without anyone knowing. Lastly, build an awesome wash day regiem to maximize her growth while in a protective style and trim
Love your advice. Not sure what level of snapage, I would have been on if my ex's girl did anything to my girls hair. But to keep that from happening, I always sent their hair braided so no one had to touch it. I taught them what to do. I braid a lot and see this in a lot of ladies hair.
I love that 'cut you' praise break!!!! I was thinking the exact same thing! Heffer....she need a come to Jesus moment messing with that child's hair! Don't even get me started. Blessings Linwood xxx
Hi. Thanks for the consistently great content. Question: Does the fact that an individual wearing locks never has the opportunity to remove shed hair cause damage to their hair follicles?
Lmbo!! You are hilarious 😂😂😂 Thanks for the great tips! Even though my daughter's hair isn't overprocessed you're making the transition from relaxed hair to natural a lot more tolerable, my daughter Thanks you😊(I think she's trying to act tender headed🤔)
Love your channel!! Thanks so much for this. I had to come back and find this video to review these helpful tips. I’m am a stylist ( just graduated in September) and your channel is very informative. Thanks for all of your help!!!
Welp! "Texlaxed" girl here. I normally have texture in my hair after a relaxer. I prefer my hair like that instead of bone straight hair. I manage to keep it healthy and growing. However, with my last retouch on my new growth, my hair over-processed and it was bone straight. Now that my new growth is nicely coming in, I now have 3 different textures 🙄 the longest is texlaxed, 3 inch bone straight and my new curly growth. How do I manage this hair? How can I prevent damage or breakage? I wash and deep condition every week and use protective styles. Many thanks.
Have you done a protein deep conditioning, or are you moreso focusing on moisture? Protective styling is definitely a plus, and the next time you apply a relaxer, be very careful not to overlap onto the overprocessed portion 🙏🏽
GlamFam I deep condition with both moisture and protein. I alternate between.... Most of my hair care products contain protein. So I often use moisturising leave in conditioners. Thanks for your response.
Thanks for the rant, the nerve of some people. I wonder if she could sue for punitive damage? There's so much more I would like to say but I'll leave it. Anyway, as always great tips, you know I aways learn something new and tfs.
+Tunisia Rawles I honestly don’t know in terms of legal course of action, but unfortunately, things like this go on entirely too often with parental consent.
Love it , Love it, Love it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my sentiments exactly. Love the disclaimer. ..... thank you for the information. What would I do without your professional advise.
Love these quick info sessions. I'm natural and can't cornrow, any styles ideas please - I have an professional job and need it to be quick for me to do in the morning. Thank you.
+BLKMimiLDN can you 2 strand twist at all? I’ll try to put some simple styles together on my oldest daughter that are smooth and subdued some for certain close minded corporate people😊
My hair was relaxed without my mother's permission by a family member when I was in elementary school. She over processed it and sent me home at the end of the summer without the knowledge or tools to keep it up. I knew nothing about protein and my hair was a hot mess!!!! Great advice.
Don't forget to minimize brushing. Over brushing relaxed hair increases breakage. The less manipulation done to her fragile hair the better. Also, find a hairdresser to deep condition, since unfortunately the hair may continue to break where the relaxed & natural hair meet.
Would these steps work if my hair is damaged from frequent bleaching? I use myself as a guinea pig for most of my haircolor practice so it's left my fringe and tips fried. I love your channel by the way and I'm glad I couldn't sleep and stumbled upon it!
what are your favorite products to use on damaged hair or which would you recommend Linwood? As always I love u, your channel, and advice. Be blessed # AskLinwood
+Tora G it really depends on the extent of the damage. For extremely damaged hair, I like Redkens Extreme line, but you still have to combine it with moisture, for deep moisture, I like Framesi color lover moisture masque. 😊👍🏽
Dear Linwood, my hair is very thick and it has takin me 12 years to grow it only to my shoulders. Do you have any tips on how to grow hair faster? Its very stressful going to school when every one makes fun of me because of my “afro” but my hair is no where near an afro it just very thick so PLZ help me with any ideas
It is so funny that I came across this video after watching the relaxer video. As i stated in your other video, I went through this with my great-niece Tyla and with a little TLC, we nursed her hair back to health. :)
Gosh that is so disrespectful to put harsh chemicals in a child's hair without even consulting her mother!! I would be so upset :(. Good on you Linwood for taking the time to help your subscribers, it is really kind of you. Hopefully the little girl's hair starts to grow again, natural hair is beautiful.
Hi GlamFam- Love this new segment. I have a question... I'm 45 yo and I'm 90% gray... I semi rinse my hair on perm day, is that advisable? Also, I'm trying to grow my hair, but I feel like my hair is over processed... any suggestions? I'm looking forward to your response. I've started my new hair journey about 3 months ago, but my hair is shading like crazy, although it looks full... what's going on with the hair? Wish I lived in TX :-) Best regards,
It seems harder to keep my fully black daughter who has naturally blonde hair moisturized. (We from Lake Charles, LA) We do live in Colorado which is a dry climate but my hair which is dark brown/black seems to hold moisture better than hers. Is the color of her hair a contributing factor to it not holding moisture as long?
+tttaaannn1 yes, unfortunately Afro Hair in lighter colors tends to be much more moisture deficient due to a lack of melanin. Try out Shea Moistures high porosity line, and make sure you regularly wet the hair and apply leave ins, as well as oils to seal the moisture balance a bit. Excellent question!
+Priscilla George I honestly steer away from products that are “gentle for the eyes” because they are too high alkaline and tend to rob the hair of moisture. I’m a huge fan of Shea moisture and carols daughter as OTC lines that are sulfate free and more gentle on the skin. Also, I never recommend grease, the molecular size is too large to absorb into the skin, and it’s typically highly flammable, as it’s derived from gasoline.
+Toya B it honestly depends on the hair fabric, but my faves are as follows, Framesi color lover, moisture masque. Shea moisture high porosity masque. Paul Mitchell super charged moisturizer. I hope these help!
Heyyy Linwood what’s the best products to use on my 7 yr old daughters hair she has kinky Afro American hair. Her hair hasn’t grown since she was 5 it’s like it stop growing
+IMTHE1u WANT the first thing I would recommend would be trimming, honestly, most of the tips I gave in this video would apply to her hair, keep it well conditioned, have her sleep on satin, facilitate a higher moisture balance, trim as needed, and plait or twist her hair if it’s loose when she goes to sleep at night. You be amazed at how little the products can matter in some instances.
I'm a new subscriber and I just LOVE your videos. Your videos are very informative! I have a question please: What products do you recommend for dry relaxed hair?
+Ms. Lewis thanks for watching! I would regularly deep condition with moisture. Shea Moistures high porosity line works well for relaxed hair that battles with dryness
Hi I dyed my raw Indian natural wavey hair from natural brown to black and now there’s no wave. It’s stays straight, locks dull & lifeless. What can I do to bring life back to it and maybe bring back the wave??
I love your videos . Love the humor and the tips. #asklinwood. My question is this: My hair is dry, fine, curly (slightly kinky), and doesn't seem to grow well. I admit I gave up on it years ago and just started wearing wigs and ponytails. Is there any hope for having a full head of hair that doesn't require a weave to have a nice full hairstyle?
+Sheanna Sauls that depends on your natural thickness, but some of that will also come with keeping your moisture balance high. I am presently in love with Shea Moistures high porosity line, it helps lock moisture in a bit more. Also, regular deep conditioning is amazing, plus a proper night time routine. Do you sweat in your head by chance?
I have a question I wear my hair in a ponytail and my hair is natural and I would like to know how can I grow my edges back they're coming out especially on my right side of my head thank you
+Kim Parker ease up on high tension styles. Wearing wigs can be a great way to let the hair rest and protect the hair so you can treat the scalp as needed. Be sure to regularly massage the area with the balls of your fingertips and a SMALL amount of natural oil, just for lubrication.
Linwood, I love your channel! Question: should you always get under the dryer for a deep conditioner? And is it ok to mix brands of conditioner or layer them on the hair?
Great question! You don’t always have to use heat, you can put a cap on and wrap your head in a towel and let your body heat do the rest. Also, yes, you can custom mix conditioners based on what you need
Loving Glamtober sooooo much! Question for you. I find that Mizani butter blend relaxer and Mizani shampoo and conditioner seems to really work on my hair. I relax my hair about once every 1-2 months. I get my hair trimmed regularly to alleviate any split ends and to line up my sides (about every 2-3 weeks). Is it true that using the same products on your hair for a long time is not good? I have been using Mizani hair products on my hair since I was 12 years old (specifically their relaxer system for "medium" curl texture hair and their shampoo and conditioner) so I don't know of any other hair products. Could you do a video on the pros and cons of relaxing hair?
+Jamie Smith a relaxer video is scheduled for sometime in the next week where I go through tips and pointers to help relaxed hair, and warn people of some poor common practices I see with most relaxed clients. As far as products go, using the same products isn’t bad, but once a month, you may want to do a clarifying shampoo just to remove products and buildup and start fresh again. 😊
GlamFam awesome! What products do you recommend for clarifying shampoo? I use mizani’s “puriphying” shampoo and “fulfyl” conditioner in between relaxing my hair to get rid of build up and to get a really good cleanse. I find using this shampoo and conditioner allows my to go a while without having to touch up my hair with the butter blend relaxer.
Ask glen wood I know I have over processed my hair due to the back part of head is nothing but new growth and the front is straight no sign of getting nappy. I have not put anything in it for two months and it is the same way not growing at all. HELP ME PLEASE
Are protein treatments necessary? I transitioned for 14 months and it's been almost 1 full year since my "big chop" and I've never done a protein treatments. Should I do one? And how will I know I need 1?
+Jennifer Nunn yes, they are. Often, the curls stop having as much bounce and seem more limp, plus the hair will feel slightly spongy when it’s wet. Usually moisture is a must, but since Hair is majority protein, it does need a bit of help in that department time to time.
+Trica King it depends on the hairs individual needs. I like keracares hydrating detangling shampoo, and Shea Moistures moisture retention shampoo, and I like Framesi color lover moisture masque, and carols daughter black vanilla conditioner.
You need to look at a strand of your hair. Compare your hair strand to a friend or family to see if your hair is thinner or thicker. You select the relaxer based on if the individual strands of your hair are fine or this. Most times that is the factor that determines how quickly your not your hair processes.
We are cousins now! I love you even more after this video. My hair is over processed and I'm almost ready to cut it all off. I have shoulder length hair but it's looking like J Lo in the movie enough. 😔 I gotta get my GLAM back FAM.
#AskLinwood What to use on your after chelating champoo. The ends of my relaxed hair became dry and lifeless after using a chelating champoo...I had to cut it all off:(.Please tell me how to prevent that scenario in the future?Thank you.
Glamfam what regiment do you reccomend or use for alopecia clients due to (meds/chemical)? The stress from seeing thinning, breakage, bald spots isn't helping yet what can a sistah do....😣😭#AskLinwood
My trimmed my hair down to a twa I then put dark and lovely bleach blonde in my hair it us breaking down even further. Do I need to go bald at this point????
I need to rant real quick. My black Dominican hair stylist has been swearing up and down against relaxer forever. Please note that she is not relaxed just very well heat trained which now appears to be extremely thin and not growing. Damaged? Not for me to say but thin as hell no doubt. Anyway she begged up and down for me to try keratin. When I eventually gave in……..needless to say my hair fought it like the plague after being relaxed 20+ years. In between blowouts I was stuck with angry two textured hair for about three months. I caved after that and told her I’m going back to my creamy crack. She said I had to wait which I did. Another three months later we did the relaxer and it took my hair illiterate self a minute to realize that something was wrong. The hair was like melted cheese or gum at every wash and was super dead even when dry. She said nothing. After a lot of googling I found out what was happening.I’ve tried protein treatments, relaxer stretching, a full weave to decrease manipulation and nothing seems to be working. It’s becoming more gum like and to my horror 7 months later my crown is about an inch tall while the rest of my head is neck length with patches throughout. Not to mention my edges are non existent. She takes my calls less and the attitude is more like she no longer wants me as a client claiming she doesn’t even do relaxers. Someone help me get my hair back. It’s never been this bad in 25 years.
+Canesha Cartwright sure! By the way, I have a moisturizing video coming up, as well as a relaxer video coming up this month that you may find helpful. Stay tuned!
+Sunlight Shore no, not at all, I actually have a (super petty) video coming up that deals with these online hair challenges. But in short, lol no, I’m not a fan at all.
#askLinwood How do you treat heat damaged hair? I went completely natural in March and i flat ironed my hair, now the perimeter of my hair is straighter than the rest when washed... don’t really want to cut my hair off!
Linny darling you are so knowledgeable andvdelucerynof msg spot on. Thank you. What about menopausal women and relaxers my hair is lije breaking its sll gray..trying yo gfow it our but may need to do big choo😢😢😢
Someone in my daughters family decided to relax her hair w/o my permission and now it’s damaged and to make things worse I think she than cut it shorter. I had been trying to fix it with deep conditioner treatments but I don’t know what to do
#asklinwood Hello I’m a 52 year old woman that’s been diagnosed with Androgenetic alopecia. Is their anything you can suggest to help me grow my hair back?
#AskLinwood Have you ever had to work with someone who's hair is not all one length but uneven? My friend had box braids last summer and cut her real hair because she said that she was cutting off the frizz from the braids after i warned her that was her hair she was actually cutting. After removing her braids she's got some long and short spots. What should she do?
What did you just go red on the ex’s girlfriend? Yes, I love it. Remember the disclaimer y’all. You may go to jail and he’s not bailing you out. Oh my sweet Jesus you guys need a tv show. #asklinwood. Could you please explain more about protein treatments and why the hair needs it. Thank you 🙏🏾
#askLinwood...is there a way that i can trim/cut my own ends. I have been natural for 5-6 years I'm trying to skim my budget in efforts to purchase a house and can not afford these high frigging salons that cater to "natural hair" where I live. My hait is about bra strap length when pulled out....DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS?
+kimberly sawyer I typically don’t recommend trimming your own hair, especially since you can’t see the back of your own head. It’s often an accident waiting to happen
LOL !!!!!!!love the disclaimer, just what i was thinking!!! and you snapped back as professional as hell! go Linwood !!

Be blessed
# AskLinwood
+Tora G it really depends on the extent of the damage. For extremely damaged hair, I like Redkens Extreme line, but you still have to combine it with moisture, for deep moisture, I like Framesi color lover moisture masque. 😊👍🏽
Petty moment!!! 😂😂😂😂 I'm living for it!
+Shavonia Morrow thank you! 😂😂
What are some good moisturizers for very over processed damaged relaxed hair?
LMAO!! That pause of petty was awesome!!!
Dear Linwood,
my hair is very thick and it has takin me 12 years to grow it only to my shoulders.
+Miss Kitty thank you dear! My main goal here is to help people as much as possible. I pray that I’m able to do just that!
What is the best relaxer??
Hi GlamFam- Love this new segment. I have a question... I'm 45 yo and I'm 90% gray... I semi rinse my hair on perm day, is that advisable? Also, I'm trying to grow my hair, but I feel like my hair is over processed... any suggestions? I'm looking forward to your response. I've started my new hair journey about 3 months ago, but my hair is shading like crazy, although it looks full... what's going on with the hair? Wish I lived in TX :-) Best regards,
Rant on Linwood, love Glamtober.
Very helpful. Thanks again!
What are the best products to use on a 2 yr old hair or should I just leave it to water and grease? #asklinwood
GlamFam Wow thank you so much
+Priscilla George my pleasure dear! 😊😊
What's a good deep conditioner for natural/dry hair?#asklinwood
+Toya B it honestly depends on the hair fabric, but my faves are as follows,
Framesi color lover, moisture masque.
#AskLinwood
1. You're the BEST!
2. How do I transition from braids (a looonnngg time) no chemicals to natural (4c texture)?
Thanks!
+S T what type of braids are we talking, and do oh have any chemicals still present in the mid shaft or ends of your hair?
What conditioners do you recommend for protein, moisture and leave in?
I'm a new subscriber and I just LOVE your videos. Your videos are very informative! I have a question please: What products do you recommend for dry relaxed hair?
+Ms. Lewis thanks for watching! I would regularly deep condition with moisture. Shea Moistures high porosity line works well for relaxed hair that battles with dryness
Hi I dyed my raw Indian natural wavey hair from natural brown to black and now there’s no wave. It’s stays straight, locks dull & lifeless. What can I do to bring life back to it and maybe bring back the wave??
What is the best leave in condition for finer hair
Start by choosing something that is light weight. Not so heavy.
+Jamie Smith I love Paul Mitchell’s Shampoo 3, it’s deeply clarifying, then I follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioning.
GlamFam okay I’ll grab that and start using that in between touch ups
Omg I def needed to hear this out so much info and it helps me
+Maria Cordero awesome! I’m so happy to help!
Ask glen wood
I know I have over processed my hair due to the back part of head is nothing but new growth and the front is straight no sign of getting nappy.
Can u recommend a good shampoo and conditioner for relaxed and natural hair.
+Trica King it depends on the hairs individual needs. I like keracares hydrating detangling shampoo, and Shea Moistures moisture retention shampoo, and I like Framesi color lover moisture masque, and carols daughter black vanilla conditioner.
I relaxed my hair yesterday and I have a bad burn on my scalp what can u do to help that
Wanda Johnson SAMEEEE
Linwood any suggestions on leave in conditioners? Thanks. Loving Glam-tober
+Lynda Jordan yes, I have a video coming up in Glamtober that deals heavily with moisturizing Hair and leave ins, stay tuned! 😊❤️👍🏽
How you know the strenght of relaxer for hair type
You need to look at a strand of your hair. Compare your hair strand to a friend or family to see if your hair is thinner or thicker. You select the relaxer based on if the individual strands of your hair are fine or this. Most times that is the factor that determines how quickly your not your hair processes.
Why are you so amazing!!
+Claire Taylor Lol thank you! 😊😊 I don’t know! 😂
GlamFam 😂😂 we all say that and no problem ❤
+Claire Taylor 😊😊
We are cousins now! I love you even more after this video. My hair is over processed and I'm almost ready to cut it all off. I have shoulder length hair but it's looking like J Lo in the movie enough. 😔 I gotta get my GLAM back FAM.
#AskLinwood
What to use on your after chelating champoo.
+Tish Payne there is a line of product by Bosley that’s rather beneficial. I would give it a shot!
You are adorable and very knowledgeable.
Could you recommend some deep conditioners for relaxed hair?#AskLinwood
+Canesha Cartwright sure! By the way, I have a moisturizing video coming up, as well as a relaxer video coming up this month that you may find helpful. Stay tuned!
great advice
+tia wardrick thanks so much!
Linwood do you recommend vapor rub for growth?
+Sunlight Shore no, not at all, I actually have a (super petty) video coming up that deals with these online hair challenges. But in short, lol no, I’m not a fan at all.
Can you name a gel I could use please?
#askLinwood
How do you treat heat damaged hair? I went completely natural in March and i flat ironed my hair, now the perimeter of my hair is straighter than the rest when washed... don’t really want to cut my hair off!
How long does an overprocess last
Linny darling you are so knowledgeable andvdelucerynof msg spot on.
I had been trying to fix it with deep conditioner treatments but I don’t know what to do
#asklinwood
Hello I’m a 52 year old woman that’s been diagnosed with Androgenetic alopecia. Is their anything you can suggest to help me grow my hair back?
Thank you this video is gold 💯
#AskLinwood Have you ever had to work with someone who's hair is not all one length but uneven? My friend had box braids last summer and cut her real hair because she said that she was cutting off the frizz from the braids after i warned her that was her hair she was actually cutting. After removing her braids she's got some long and short spots. What should she do?
Can very long relaxed hair transition without a chop?HELP
What did you just go red on the ex’s girlfriend? Yes, I love it. Remember the disclaimer y’all. You may go to jail and he’s not bailing you out. Oh my sweet Jesus you guys need a tv show. #asklinwood. Could you please explain more about protein treatments and why the hair needs it. Thank you 🙏🏾
+blkstang46 I certainly can, and I certainly did! 😂 sometimes cutting people is the most logical solution! 😂😂
If she applied to the scalp it could burn the follicle. Treat that scalp like glass and stop over manipulating. ✋
#AskLinwood I have bundles and units that are over processed. Is there anyway to save them if so help!
Great info! Tfs!
+Debra Washington my pleasure! Thanks for watching!
