    The mind always wants something to do, trying to convince us that there's some problem to solve and something to figure out before we can be at peace.

      And such is its task. Let it do its thing. Thoughts need attention to affect you. You give them power. Thoughts are not good or bad, thinking makes them so - Shakesspear (I think)

    Brilliant, Truth as close as one can get. I love the part that points out once you recognize your original mind that is just the beginning, awakening doesn’t solve all your problems. We have a life time of mind habit. With awakening all seeking energy is gone, and a new chapter begins. In all situations standing at the center of reality is now the game and with all games you win some and lose some but the essential you is untouched. Peace to all and good luck.

    The function of the mind is to think and to doubt. And, to keep going. 🤣 Seeking is mind-driven. When you wake up, this is seen. 🥰 Thank you for sharing.

    Great video.
    Scripture does state that you use the mind to come to the realization of that which is beyond the mind but I generally agree with you.
    For me it feels like Im thinking about it, trying to find it with my mind until the point where I realize that I am lost in these thoughts and that they are only illusion which I am Only Observing. And that is when the mind settles down in the realization that no thought is of any relevance since all of them are just the observation.
    Its like the mind runs around until it fins a neutral point of unconditional stability. Knowledge leads it out of itself.
    And after that life goes on but you are of the awareness that everything that is happening is unrelated to me and so it does not matter in any way. Its happening but its not happening to me.
    And in that state the mind is constantly very relaxed which starts to bring up the very pleasurable sensations of that detachment. God is making this for me and it feels really good even when its nothing.

    • @AlexShailer
      @AlexShailer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Perfect! If a pointer like "Awareness" doesn't mean anything to you, it doesn't matter. It's about whatever is right for you. And it is true, that you can use the mind (or more accurately, the faculty of attention) to go beyond the mind. So I never discourage anyone from doing so. But if we are to be completely honest, we have to tell the Truth, which is that its already present. Both things are true AT ONCE. The mind can never understand that.

    Agree. Nicely said. What interests me intellectually is what if anything we take away from this life. Rupert Spira suggests nothing can be added to consciousness whereas Bernardo Kastrup suggests some of life’s lessons are absorbed.

    • @AlexShailer
      @AlexShailer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe we do. I love Rupert but I don't agree when he says '"Localized consciousness dissipates into the wider medium after death" or something like those lines. There is enough 'Out of body' and NDEs and people literally dying and coming back and saying localized awareness continued. There is no good reason to say it dissipates after this life and there may be many lifetimes and layers of reality

    • @iainthebruce
      @iainthebruce 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AlexShailer Sure, but is this not conflating the dream with the absolute. With OBE's etc, you are talking about levels of localised consciousness or densities that are still within the dream. The only objective reality is the indivisible, boundless, timeless, unmanifest potentiality. Ultimately, what would it be that 'absorbs' these lessons or that references this 'localised awareness'? Knowledge, known experience or memory only has perceived value within the 'appearance' and within the concept of time. That, within which and from which, the 'appearance' seems to arise and dissolve, is itself without attribute. No division, no other, no referencer or knower. Having said that, your video was excellent and i really enjoyed your delivery and focused pointing. Great work, looking forward to more. Liked and subbed.

    The expressions that bother me most are "everything appears and disappears", "nothing happens" or "is and is not at the same time", "there is no cause and effect", "there is no evolution". Obviously I get tied up in words and the confusion and stress becomes even greater when I apply these expressions to everyday life, on a personal level, and I end up thinking that there is no point in doing anything because there is no cause and effect, or that nothing happens anyway, or that everything is pointless since I cannot influence reality or what happens. Extrapolating these dictates to everyday life is dangerous, it can lead to depression.

    • @AlexShailer
      @AlexShailer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These things are relevant and real in the relative world of form. They are pointed to as 'not real' to distinguish the temporary form from what is ultimately real: unchanging awareness, or beingness. Non-Duality isn't about ignoring the relative realm or saying it doesn't matter. With Self-realization, the world and the individual can be engaged with, whilst knowing one's true nature as awareness/beingness as larger than and beyond it.

    He who seeks does not find, but he who does not seek will be found.

      There is a lot of mass debating in non-duality, and the confusion between a conceptual understanding and the felt sense of it is pervasive, the difference between reading the menu and eating the meal. Equally everybody has a unique journey, one person’s intuition might tell them to meditate, another to do therapy, or spend time in nature, or take psychedelics, or listen to a teacher on TH-cam telling them they are already it.

    Simple but the mind didn't fight it, as you predicted. Maybe because it was prepared by other guides ( to avoid the word teacher ) and here, now it received the truth.
    Simple, naked, unconditional, natural ;)
    Ironic how the other non-dual use phrases as: it is this ( implying that exists, also ), it's what appearing ( indirectly implying dissapearing ).

    this video is important to alert people to the lines of thinking to avoid but it does nothing for the earnest seeker who already understands this and is still confounded by how to simply be what they are. i'm afraid that's where the "meat" is. no attack on the video btw. we just need to be sure that we understand all the subtleties (not just conceptual even though only concepts are able to communicate anything - whether they be verbal or nonverbal concepts....so maybe there is where the confusion may be arising?) before we claim to be able to guide someone else in their own path. let us try to take the posture of a fellow investigator of truth sharing discoveries rather than possibly someone that has found "the real way" "the essential way" "the clear and obvious way", "the effortless way", etc. everybody on youtube take it easy. ha ha. much love to all.

    • @AlexShailer
      @AlexShailer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you say "already understands this" and "is still confounded", what that says to me is: "has thoughts about it, but never followed the pointer"... and that's the point of the video. You must stop trying to understand it intellectually, and instead, use the facility of your attention to look at the Awareness that is aware of all these thoughts. You must stop trying to look into your mind. That is contracted focus. Soften your attentional focus and see everything at once. Now stay there as long as possible. Don't get bored straight away and start thinking about it again.

    • @pairadeau
      @pairadeau 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      we're saying the same thing. i presume this video was an attempt to understand/relay it intellectually. if you claim "no...the pointer herein are to do exactly the opposite i.e. that you can't understand it intellectually" please realize that this is also a concept. that was my only point. cheers good friend. @@AlexShailer

    I have known about Non Duality for a few years now. Meditate often for a period of time until I heard a conversation between Sam Harris and another on the Waking Up app. There it was said that about 30% of those who have an awakening do not cope with it, and end up suffering greatly for a long, long time. Elsewhere I have subsequently learned that this is called Dark Night Of The Soul. I immediately stopped meditating. This was too risky. Who would I talk to if I turned out to be one of those percent. Who would guide me? An awakening could have ended up being a journey to hell. I think those who encourage awakening should be more clear about this and make the viewers aware of this risk.

    We are the Consciousness perceiving Itself. One whole unfragmented/non local/timeless Consciousness can be pure Love and Harmony, but for such Entity to be able to expand/reverberate infinitely Its Love and Harmony It must had to fragment/localize/time fixate Itself in dual nature (material expression revealed in us material living beings) so that by, awakening from our own duality, we could bring higher Orders of reverberation/vibration to such Oneness Love and Harmony. We were made separate, our minds keep to separate and categorize things as long as we live, its aim is rational understanding and complexification of its own content and perception, a closed vicious and untrue never ending cycle, our work is thus to stop such mental cycle and by SURRENDER of mind and body (the only thing that one must really DO) make coherent our perception/awareness with every internal and external thing that arise in our minds - LOCAL MIND HARMONIZED WITH THE HIGHER MIND THROUGH THE FULL AWARENESS OF WHAT IS (without subjective/local interference).

    We do need to train the mind to be still in order to see through the illusion. Distraction is a hinderance to seeing the true nature of reality. Also why did we need to “forget ourselves to experience a limited self in a limited world”? What’s the point? Why not just not come here in the first place?

    The "function of the mind is like that" and "I should just let it". Who runs the mind and who runs the one wanting lo let the mind run and who has the outside perspective asking this? It's all percieving in the moment and then stories about a me, a mind, letting or not letting. Stories seem to make up a duality but they also appear in the now. It's all simultaneously happening

    What if I just trust that its unfolding naturally and focus on my creative goals while 'doing' spiritual practices like meditation as a form of spiritual hygiene rather than to get awakening?
    Still, certain things are being experienced. Like creative block, overthinking, catastrophising, anxiety and more. I would like a....smoother experience. I mean its all awakened either way, but I would much prefer to be awakened in a peaceful way? I guess thats unfolding too and I don't need a teacher. But why did I come across this then? I guess this just presses my buttons. Still, my experience is 'better' than it ever has been and getting better quicker, so, thats good.

      Yup! That's great. I still meditate A LOT, do breathwork every day, and do the 'practice' of resting as awareness'. It all helps with many things.
