    I took some clothes out of style purgatory and reassessed if I wanted them or not. Then we did a clothing swap with all the ladies at work. They were so excited to go through the clothes and try things on. Now I get to see them wearing the pieces and enjoying them. So fun! (I live in a less affluent country).

      I loved it! Your 'take it slow' approach was useful and so was the idea of our closets as being a sacred space where we show ourselves. I liked the information about costume designers and the rooms created by the Ralph Lauren team.
      By the way, what season are you? Summer?

    Costume design in film was the first aspect of fashion that I was attracted to! I love how the costuming of films, theatre productions, ballets, etc communicates the energy and character of the setting and cast. It's such an important element of visual storytelling. Fashion and clothing are immensely important in human history and life. It's one of the most accessible lenses into ourselves and our histories. As always, I really enjoyed this video, thoughtful and detailed and deeply considered. I've also thought about for "re-homing" old pieces that are either worn out or no longer serving me but I'm still attached to is to use it in my textile art. It would be a really great way to connect to old selves both emotionally and physically. As for which video...I think C would be very fun :)

    I had a really hard time in junior high, and my clothes were a way for me to survive. I was literally romanticizing my life. I'd lay out my clothes the night before, make sure my details matched, played around with my mom's and dad's old pieces. It was a creative outlet and it allowed me to start figuring out my taste and style, and something that helped me through.

    I am a dramatic classic body type with a dark autumn colour palette.
    Now I understand why I like such different outfit styles; I have a mix of classic, natural and gamine essences🤸🥳🤗

    I enjoyed it (& watched the whole thing). I'm still at the point where I'm a magpie attracted by the next bright/shiny especially as reflected via fashion trends of the upcoming season and encouraged by Black Friday sales and such. Working on getting a handle on what I have, declutter enough to see what is still in my closet from earlier decades. Plus I have a plethora of items with tags still on and not yet worn. [Too much retail therapy during the pandemic. 😕]
    So, it's a work in progress. Regarding your next video, options A. History of Girl Next Door, and C. Romanticizing your life through your clothes-integrating fantasy, looked promising.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think it's totally fun to try and explore new trends! You can still do the closet audit and maybe try personal style mapping too. Might help you pinpoint the trends that speak authentically to you rather than just collecting every trend out there. Thank you for watching the whole video- seriously I know I talk a lot. It's a slow process to improve our closets, just take it a step at a time, doesn't have to feel insurmountable that way or have too much decision fatigue. Maybe just tackling your "easy nos" is a good place to start.🥰

    I would love to see video choice A but they all sound fun 🤩
    Do you still have the structured white shirt? I had a lightbulb moment taking outfit photos that I actually don’t like how I look in a structured white shirt and I feel uncomfortable in a shirt like that. It helped me realize I need something more soft, flowy and relaxed. I also went through a phase where guessed my color season (incorrectly) and got rid of all my black clothes 😭😣 Still regret that, so I have a “style purgatory” duffel bag under my bed.

  • @VeryStumped
    @VeryStumped 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I heard angels singing from high during your presentation. First, clusters are a "New to me idea!" I need to ditch or hybridize my capsules to a weather-based cluster design. My capsules have collapsed with the East Coast weather and my vision. I am always scrambling for alternatives in my capsule to adjust to the daily weather changes. Second, "a new to me"idea, is Comfort under a coat! It just dawned on me that I don’t buy coats wearing layers! So, at the last minute, I have to wear a coat that does not fit my "vision" or I am capsule-busting, scrambling for alternatives, and mad at the process. Your worksheet and video exposed these stumbling points. My coats drive the winter look and as I write this, I don't have an oversized comfortable coat! Jackets yes, coats, no. I swear my clothes hate me and I want them to love me. Thank You for the worksheets, I know it will bring me and my clothes closure or closer, I will let you know!

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm so glad to hear the worksheets helped you make this realization! And yes, I find coats such an amazing fashion point to really "finish" off the vision. And I find having some small clusters in my closet really helpful- they help me immediately see the vibe I'm going for depending which one I pull out. Definitely worth playing around with the flow and structure if you're finding it stressful instead of fun to build an outfit. Thank you for leaving this comment, it really made my day!

  • @KcKctea
    @KcKctea 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I finished it! Wow, such a deep nuanced and system approach!
    I am almost oppressed by the amount of analysis it will take, especially if to consider I'm only on establishing my style toolbox stage - not even touched "personal style" holy grail.
    Would be very interesting to see your approach to romanticizing life. It is tough for me - not with bringing fantasy in, im a chronic dreamer. But more with "stop from grinding, breathe and feel the magic that _is_ in already", like mindfulness and stuff. And the other side of romantisizing as feeling oneself a main hero of his/her life, and feeling in power even in ordinaries of everyday. And a way to build a narrative, a story from the past and present (it's therapeutic, they say).
    If you choose to make a vid on enhancing the style toolbox, you can use my data (i'd be honoured): Im quite slim soft dramatic, my curve aint very strong, but im soft and flowy. My vertical is bold 5'10. Both those make me lean to dramatic lines with added softness, rather than overglam of full curve SDs; but can wear minies and floaty fabrics of any lengths.
    I suffer in prints and anything fussy, and shine in shimmers.
    I am true(cool) winter with snow-white bluish skin and a touch of not so harsh contrast (neutral hazel eyes and darkbrown hair with gray undertone). I shine in brighty-coldy-pastels, can tolerate total black with added silver nuances - look very powerful.
    My top essence is ethereal, it's quite obvious. But i also have a hit of ingenue (people feel awkward when they guess my age and i look silly/separate in mature romantic stuff).
    Sorry for the wall of text.

    Oh man. After I completed the exercises in your last video. I took it upon myself to do a closet audit. Clothes were everywhere for a month. If only I had this video. Taping that paper to the door is genius. Taking out 1-5 clothes each day and reviewing them is also fantastic. I was sleeping on 1/3 of my bed for that month cause the rest was filled with clothes. I was jotting down notes about pieces I couldn’t get rid of yet because I use them often but I wanted to replace with new/better fitting clothes. I still have jeans to do. I’ll apply your tips to that at least

    I’ve done a great closet audit, I know what the gaps are, I know my style tool box, and I need to move on to buying things I’ll love but it’s so so so hard for me! I’m a very picky shopper (good) but I never end up getting anything (bad).

    Would you be able to do a video on, how to combine kibbes and Kitcheners that are complete opposites. Or maybe incorporating style lines that suit your body and face if they feel disjointed and don’t match up. I’ve been struggling to feel secure in my blend because I have a long face (maybe Natural and Ethereal) but a tiny curvy body. Clothes that look good on my body rarely flatter my face. I’m 5’2 and would guess I have a Kibbe Romantic or Soft gamine body shape. So I can’t figure out how to respect my face without drowning in my clothes and while still respecting my short lines.

    I use Pinterest to see what pieces show up again and again to know what I want my basics to be. I make lists of clothes that have neutral colors. I then make a list of pieces that show my personality and add to the outfit. I love silhouettes, textures, fabrics, and colors. I really try to shop for quality and check the tags. I dislike synthetic clothes and try to stay away from them mostly.

    I've watched a few of your personal style videos over the last few days and learned a lot! I really like the idea of having A+ items in my wardrobe but how do you achieve that when shopping online? I don't have a lot of free time to go shopping in person but feel like I'll be tempted to keep things if they're good enough, rather than bother sending them back. Do I need to raise my standards..? (A vote for the style toolbox video too please)

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, raise your standards and return or donate items that don't work! It can be slow but so so rewarding. I have a podcast episode all about evaluating how you shop that you might like th-cam.com/video/o1K8dm-kf94/w-d-xo.html

    Love that long cream slip dress with the black lace detail. I'm no expert but am wondering about whether you see the classic essence in you? I feel like i see it in you pretty easily, with your others.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I go over this in the classic video but I don’t think classic is in my blend- or at least not dominant. I don’t know if I’d categorize that dress as classic either. But it’s definitely open to interpretation 👍🏻 I see it having a relaxed silhouette (which could read as simple/classic but I treat this as honoring my natural) but I feel the lace/silk leans a touch romantic and the stark color and sharper angles could be a hint of dramatic. Maybe someone with classic could wear it, but I wouldn’t naturally think it’s a dress someone like Grace Kelly would wear

    I'll say as a SAHM, it's hard to take daily outfit photos because it's all the same LOL! I think my issue with my wardrobe is that I don't have any nice pieces for slightly dressy/casual OR special occasions (which don't happen a lot anymore, but still happen), and the ones that I do have don't fit my color season or body type. But part of my issue is that I'm not even 100% on what my body type is because of my postpartum body... I'm midsize and it's hard to look at my body objectively and while I'm thankful for it growing and birthing a baby, it's hard to see my giant boobs and say "Is this curve? or is it just from breastfeeding? do I have width or is it my postpartum body?" though it was hard to look at myself objectively pre-pregnancy too... I think i'm in the natural family because I *think* i have width but not sure which sub-category I fall into.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I wouldn't overly focus on body types or image identities if they are causing you stress. Instead start to try on the clothes you have and take the daily outfit photos and notice what you like on yourself, notice how you like your clothes to fit, and what your style necessities or priorities are. Maybe you need you clothes that you can easily go from floor playing with kids, to running around town. Which might indicate a wardrobe gap is put-together + casual/comfort. And could also indicate pinpointing your accessories might help so you always feel like the look is "complete" even if it's very casual. Kibbe can be fantastic in understanding why something works, but it's not mean to overly stress you out or have you overly analyze your body. Maybe that's not a tool you need to implement right now. If you think you're natural, just play around with adding some relaxed elements and don't overly focus on the subtype or exact recommendations.
