You are so awesome! My goal is to hike the PCT for my 40th birthday as well! I am also a slower hiker so I find your videos so inspiring! Keep up the good work. I am reading for you from Arizona!

Cross the Mojave at night, it’s the best way to survive. But you’ll need to do it in one or two nights.
And I bet you can get to Canada. You will get fitter and fitter as you hike, and pretty soon 20 mile days will be NOTHING! We are your support crowd. 😃

I’m already mapping out my mojave plan! It would be amazing to hike 20 miles in a day, I can’t even imagine

I love ocotillo. I have a bunch on my property down in Terlingua Tx next to
    Big Bend .

Doing great, the plan makes sense. It's the journey not the destination. I've seen hikers blog that started very slow and later could do a lot over longer days. I get what you say about metrics I guess everyone is like that. Your not getting shin splints from what I'm hearing and other things like knee pain so as long as the feet are good that's great. If the feet are bad it can cause a chain reaction.
The lack of shade out there must be hard, it'll change but the plus is the open sky's and views.

Thank you! I’ve been taking it slow and steady since I’m so out of shape so I can hopefully avoid getting hurt. It’s exciting to see the fitness building already!

🐈😻 your doing awesome. Listen to your body 😁 also you’ve mentioned the Mountain lion zone? I’ve never heard of that. Which mile markers is that? Just so we know. I plan going back next spring to retry getting a lil further than just section A😅😅

There’s mountain lions almost everywhere on trail, but encountering them is rare! The comments on FarOut and hearing directly from hikers that have encountered them in person this year sniffing around their tents were around Oriflamme Canyon (mile 56).

Make sure the tent shape follows the wind direction. That means the small areas have to face the wind and the large roof parts are not in the direction the wind comes from. To find a protected spot is always the best way.
You have a very good mindset: Step by step. It doesn’t make sense to hike a lot of miles and being after that exhausted and not able to go on. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. And you have to keep your energy on a good level so it lasts long. Go on, slowly, but steadily! 👍🏻

@@hikercattrailson zpacks tents… see how 2 corners have the little zpacks logo patch? That’s the side that goes into the wind so your doors don’t flap as much =)

Ocotillos aren't a cactus. They are in their own small family and are more closely related to Manzanitas, Rhododendrons, kiwifruit, and blueberries than cacti.

Be careful of the cholla cacti. Those needles will attack you.

I didn’t think about that in the wind but so glad it didn’t get me
