@@isaklal518 I'm not sure about the history of the people who wrote Journey to the West. I just know a bit about the story itself. I'm not sure what your comment has to do entirely with the character or this anime though. How the story effectively goes is Wukong wants some kind of powerful artifact or weapon, wants to be a god, wants immortality, or some kind of super cool thing. But someone like a monk or deity tells him no. He then gets mad and does the thing anyways that people told him he couldn't do. Then people or gods find out, get mad, and try to punish Wukong. But Wukong is pretty much him, and uses either trickery, battle, or sometimes a mix of the two to keep whatever he stole. Wukong got so troublesome, they asked Buddha to do something. Buddha basically humbles Wukong by being more clever and sealed off Wukong. There's also a redemption story that happens later on where Wukong travels with someone, they go through a bunch of trials, and Wukong obtains redemption. So in short, Wukong wasn't born as a god, but he does effectively become one. Mostly partly cause he's an arrogant asshole, but also because none of the gods no matter how hard they tried could stop him. Sun Wukong is just him, until Buddha pulls up and slaps him down to Earth. So really, Buddha is the biggest Chad, and the only one who can beat Wukong in the traditional stories.

He isn't, it's that he's standing up to the gods, who are bullies in this, and the gods consider him arrogant for even doing so, because they're arrogant in the first place. Buddha here acts pretty accurately to the text, despite his design lol. His design is meant to mislead the viewer.

Glad I watched this. I was wondering if this anime was any good. The depictions of the gods & pacing are horrendous in this scene alone. Glad I won't have to waste my time.
As a Christian, I'm always pissed with how stuck up modern religions are with having fun. Hindus are exactly the same where if you take any material from their text and change it up in any way, they call it blasphemous and demand it taken down. I firmly believe if Christ comes in this amazing series, they would do him justice. The only problem is that if Christ exists in this universe, that means the final coming of Christ will commence, and that will surely be controversial in numerous continents.
