I LOVE this movie. I had teachers like Mr. M back in high school. They didn't like me because i wasn't popular, but they still gave me credit where it was due. I was an overachiever who spent after school with a history teacher studying for the AP exam. I had no idea, but he was wildly inappropriate with me and venting about being unhappy with his wife and not liking his sex life with his wife. He was outraged when i missed a session because of a club meeting. He ran to a popular teacher like Mr M who scolded me in front of the jocks and told me that teacher thought i was obnoxious and hated me. Turns out, he was telling me the truth. The popular clique knew the teachers were making fun of me behind my back and feuling the bullying i was already receiving.
**clears throat** WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MOVIE??? The sexism, the statutory, the homophobia, the inappropriateness, and shear mess of it all! I don't know whether to be disgusted, outraged, or simply not shocked since this is truly a product of its time. Great review of an absolutely terrible movie! 😂
It's a product of our society, ya know? High school's just a condensed microcosm of all the problems out there post-teenage years. The '90's were still very wild.
Also, I think you understood how messy this damn high school was 😂 all cause Dave was on that pedo vibe and Jim was a hater of a child. Could Jim not get something to cover up his eye? Like buddy could've done the Kakashi and had something over it.
Your narration is so great. Thank you so much for this selection, which I had never heard about. That Prayer Montage has me crying -- literally crying -- from laughter. At 18:52 Tracy first addressing God like he's a five star hotel manager , then Tammy the atheist praying "just for practice" but only because it might possibly further her holy cause of vengeance against Unrequited Love (UL = Lisa, that b**ch)
That scene of Reese at the room oh the teacher looking nervous broke my heart the first time I watch the movie. I was 13 and I understood what was about to happen. Mind you, Resse was already married and with a chuld when she made the movie and still she looked so young and innocent. I really like this movie is a dark comedy with great performances.
I’ve never heard of this movie so a lot of ppl didn’t get the hint right, lol. It’s definitely a lot to unpack. This was definitely age ain’t nothing but a number, same girl, backstabbers rolled into one movie (see what I did there 😉). I truly feel for Tracy for mainly just peaking only in high school and not making any friends nor developing street smarts and discernment. It was interesting yet sad at the same time to make an attempt to tell your co-worker that they’re wrong for carrying on an affair with a child but then be the epitome of said co-worker (the hypocrisy). Once I learned Tracy’s story, I understood her better although she was a bit much. I also sense that although she’s an only child, she didn’t get much attention from her mother. She also was searching for adoration and approval. And as far as the other girl who denied feelings for Paul’s sister, she probably came into her identity years later. I feel as though she was delulu about her orientation. Good analysis! I know you did Home Alone already but can you do Home Alone 2: Lost in New York this year??
lol Tracy didn’t ‘peak’ in high school. Maybe by your standards, but from her monologues you can see that she genuinely doesn’t give af what people around her are doing cause she thinks they’re all less than her if they cannot meet her standard. Also, if anything, she was smothered by her mom. Yes she was an only child to a single mom, but she clearly says this in her monologue that it just meant her mom had a lot of time for her and this showed when her mom helped her bake cupcakes on Election Day, came to her school to help her set up and was devastated when she supposedly lost.
As simple as he was, Paul was a stand-out character. Despite being popular and privileged, he was AT LEAST genuine and kind-hearted. There was no BS. Unlike everyone else in the film.

The fact that paul actually got some noticable votes during the election while being pretty much an airhead goes on to show a lot about where WE fked up as the PEOPLE in that democracy for the people by the people and all that shit. Like this movie is extremely beautiful and highly recommend anyone to watch it because it really does a great job at portraying how the once sophisticated and democratic process of election where people used to vote for the best person for the job and questioning ones administration policies has now become a process of voting for the popular kid and the cult follwoing trend. Which has now indeed become a huge part of the election nowadays, nowadays people dont look at the polocies they just care about who got shot, who held a fist bump up in the air whose funnier, its all about the popular kid now. This movie was a warning sign for the future of election process.
