Good information. I appreciate the way you explain it and the how and why with a trolling motor as well as the approach to the fish and not spooking them.

You can also adjust the boat scale so it makes more gentle movements when dealing with wind or current. It's mostly for boat size but if you set it to the lowest setting spot lock won't be so abrupt.

Great information and how did you train that fish to jump on que.

You said when the current gets heavier the motor goes in to higher speed to keep you in place, does this gradually go to high speed or does it instantly go to a high speed? Will it move the boat in any way where it could throw me off? My edge sometimes on 4 or 5 if I make a hard right or left it’s always thrown me overboard. Will this happen with spot lock?

It will gradually adjust with the current

First time using my anchor lock I had idled the boat (I thought) and then went up and dropped the troll into the water, set the anchor lock, made sure it was working right and then proceeded to watch it fight the boat. It was yanking and juking like there was a huge cross wind, there was but not that bad. I had left the engine running and the throttle bumped past the idle setting and the two motors were fighting each other and of course there was plenty of wind to add to the confusion. The new Yamaha's are so quiet I didn't realize for five minutes the engine was still on and of course still just bumped into the engaged spot. Once it "clicked" I idled the engine, turned it off and the anchor lock had no problem holding me over the debris pile in 50 feet of water. The absolute 100% benefit of anchor lock is not using my anchor not even once in over a year to fish. 1st rule of anchor lock is to shut down main first, then move up to drop trolling motor and then use that to idle in and set anchor lock at desired position. 2nd rule is ensure rule one is followed.

My trick for keeping trolling motor quiet is not having one because who can afford a $2k-$3k trolling motor?

The same people that can afford 65000$ skiffs 😂

@@nitronick1220 I'm still paying on my 15 year old bay boat and I saved up and got a 36v minn kota riptide. I had to put it on a credit card but it was worth it because when I decide to move to a bigger boat the trolling motor is coming with me. It's a worthwhile investment

Can you put a spot lock motor on the stern of a small boat or kayak? Would it still work?

What are you basing your findings on? Underwater camera? I'm not entirely on board with this unless you can really nail down your trolling motor as the reason a fish spooks especially on spot lock. I've been using spot lock and jog feature on my minn kota and had nothing but success with it and really consider it to be an invaluable tool. Need more evidence. I'm sure the minn kota pro staff love your video.

Or just get a set of power poles... Then your motor isn't running at all and its completely silent

    Good stuff, bud.
It's fine when the spot-lockers spook their own fish...but when they blast up on me and spook mine?? Aggravating.
You goob, you just blew mud all over the place...aaaand you're half a casting distance from me. Smh.
