Day in the Life of an Aspiring Actor in NYC | Being Honest about my Fears

- About seven months ago I moved to NY. About 4 months ago I decided to pick up acting again - something I haven't done since HS. I've always loved the thrill of performing and now seemed like the perfect time to pick it back up. Am I excited? Absolutely. Am I scared? You bet. How does one even become an actor? But trying to do new things is always hard. So I'm trying to embrace the difficulty of it all and enjoy the journey, wherever it takes me. Hope you enjoy sharing this journey with me!

Hey there! I'm Jacky. I make videos about learning Chinese, life in NYC, and mindful living. I'm a first-generation Chinese American and first-generation college grad. I'm an ex-consultant working in tech, an aspiring actor, and at heart, someone who just really loves learning :)

I can see this incredible light just emanating through you :) love love your energy, keep going, you've got this. I am an actress as well living in the Dominican Republic and the struggle is real haha, but at the end of the day, your passion keeps you going!
Aw thanks so much Genesis 😊We're all in this together! One class, one scene, one audition at a time.
I love this!!
Thank you for being so brave! The fact that your able to be so real and vulnerable on camera and share that publicly makes me believe you have everything you need to be a successful actor! I can't wait to see where your journey takes you!!✨✨✨🌟🌟🌟
Thank you so much for your support! this means a lot 💙
love this!! keep us updated in your journey!
Thank you! Your support means a lot 😊
Love this, excited to see you on your new journey!
Thanks Kyle! Crazy to think that the first time I ever picked up a camera was when we met back in Taiwan
Man l love the part of being vulnerable, especially growing up in a Asian family we were taught to be strong and don’t show your vulnerability to others. But sometimes it just helps you have a more balanced and healthy life as a human. Btw good vibes of the blog, feel like watching a Casey Neistat NY without the skateboarding
So true. Honestly we don’t really learn how to express our emotions outwardly and openly growing up. I’ve come to realize that as as adults, we have to UNLEARN some of those habits in order to learn to be ok being vulnerable. Thanks brother! I haven’t skated much since leaving Taiwan sadly 😭
Really love this video!!! can you share more of your financial reality as an artist in New York and any obstacles or recommendations you have? thank you!
Thanks for the love! I think my financials are probably different than the typical artist who works a more flexible job (e.g., baristas, bartenders, etc.) in exchange for more freedom. My 9-5 is in tech/strategy and I live in a more remote part of Brooklyn, so speaking openly, my challenges are less on the financial side and more on the time side, e.g., finding time to rehearse, go to class, etc.
What I've found is that if I don't consistently work on it every day then it's really easy to not make any progress, so the past few weeks I've been challenging myself to spend time every single day, even if it's only 20 minutes, to do something related to acting. Can't underestimate the power of small habits :)
!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!
the vulnerability in this video... wow. i think many of us actors can relate to that monologue, and seeing that you were so brave to show us your emotions unapologetically was very admiring. i wish you the best on your journey!
thank you kayla! your words mean a lot to me. Wishing you all the best from NY
this looks pretty neat man hope you make it far
Aw thank you! Really appreciate the encouragement ❤️
I moved here in June 2022! So a little less than a year now (wow the time flies). I grew up in LA but have been floating around different cities in my adulthood - NY feels like the first place I’ll be for a lil while :)
