There is a fun story about Dinner for one or 90 års fødselsdagen. Since 1973 it has been aired on Danish tv on new years eve except in 1985 which sparked a surge of complaints that the danish broadcasting Corporation havent dared to cancel it since.
My brother in law confused a table bomb with a new kind of roman candle, and we all suddenly just got a little more than we expected. The ceiling was of course only a few months old (fine pinewood) and my sister was livid.... So the first morning in the new year, her husband, my brother in law, who just burned half her new kitchen, decided to go out in the garden and play some Chinese cricket with us boys. With the overwhelming result of sending the first ball, into the kitchen window, just when my sister made her decision to do the dishes.. Let's just say it was the last time we had a new year's eve at my sister's home..
in the city, where they dont have mail boxes, but a mail opening in the door, i know of Friends who have put in a lot of color paper strips(hole Bags of it), and also for people to spray confetti on the windows, and i come from a smal town, and one year in the middel of town, there was 10+ trash cans stranding beside each other. or knaldsnore put on the chairs, so when you want a chair it wil say bang. or knaldperler under the doormat or in front of the door, so when people want to go in or out of the door it wil also say bang, theres is alot of fun things, beside destroying a mail box( "i have of cause never done it" my friends did it)
Watching ski jump started 60's or 70's. At that time we only had one TV channel here, DR. I think it was the only sport on New Year's Day, many Danes found it relaxing to watch, when fighting the hangover. Ski jump is nice and quiet. BTW, when researching traditions and why's in Danmark, you often have to go several hundreds of years back. In case with the cod, I think it's correct it could be because of the heavy food during Christmas, but also (if I am not mistaken) the cod is big and mature in winter time.
a little extra info for dinner for one ... there is a drinking game in it ... it can get reasonably hardcore if you do not drink normally but basically you drink every time the butler does and he does it many times ... on top of that is it also a tradition to say or shout your favorite lines ...
@@Daisy62734 oh it's very hard to say... all of them? I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people out there who know all the words... it really depends on which part of the country you come from... and what your friend group and family think is funny... and what you yourself think it's funny... but you can't go wrong in town with one of the butler's toasts or the lady calling one of her "guests" names... or one of the many side comments... it comes down to what you want to shout... there aren't really any rules you can even fire off your favorite liner too soon and people will still think it's fun...
Table bombs that look like rockets are always fun. After dinner act extremely drunk and say something like oh now it's time for some fireworks. Place it in a bottle in the middle of the table and put it on fire. It's always fun to see people run for cover. :P

I have never been to a party where people jumped off chairs and I have never had cud on New Year's Eve (thankfully), but everything else I can relate to :-) This January 1st there will be no ski jumping on TV (I never watched it anyway). Apparantly DR no longer have the TV rights. Those shooting fireworks at others or commit vandalism (not pranks) are just criminals and should be treated as such. Thanks for the great videos in 2021 - Godt Nytår!
Everyone I've visited on New Years over the years, regardless of pets or no pets, have had table bombs and such. Though everyone who's had pets, have been mindful about it. I don't know where you are getting your table bombs, but store-bought ones, make sounds no louder than a champagne bottle being opened.
I always stay away from my fellow Countrymen, if there Drunk and have Fireworks. "Booze and Fireworks" are not a good combination 😒 ! Totally! At 6PM (CET), Denmark locks down to hear the Queen speak 👍🇩🇰👍 ! The one time a year, when she tells us all, how to be better people in the year to come ❤️ ! Never ever had "Cod". Some do, but some of us are more into Beef "Tenderloin". Guess it's a regional thing😊 ! "Kransekage"! Yes! Spot on (but you need the one with nougat inside) 👍 ! "Party Poppers", Yes😀! Stupid Hats, Yes😀! "Dinner for One" is German (in English), but a must see tradition, every year👍 ! Yeah! It's Sad, but Mailboxes and other public things need to be removed, so ASSHOLES can't blow them up ☹️! I'm Danish, and "Ski Jumping" doesn't appeal to me either! Wish you and your loved ones, a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 😍 !

I did it many years ago and it was so fun to see people panic and run away 😂🤣
The last 4 New Years Eves I’ve been in London … but you’ve convinced me I need to experience a Danish nytår!
Happy new year and thanks for all your great videos!
Happy New year to you and yours!

Note to beginners:
Be sure to finish dinner before setting off table bombs. 😉😂

Wow interesting about the ski jumping not being on this year - that'll be different..!
Thanks for your comment & godt nytår 😊🎆
Erin, not every household has table bombs, those who are the lucky owners of pets do not, happy new year

Depends on the pets!
Jeg er ikke vaccineret så ingen traditioner her, nytåret bliver fejeret i køkkenet alene ligesom julen blev det. Godt nytår til alle
Surt for dig :( Jeg har corona så det er samme historie her.
