Just got one of these in black. It's exceptional. I'm a big Stingray fan, and there is something a little magical about the 2EQ that the later models (though still good) don't quite match. It is a really cool feeling to buy a new Music Man that is identical in every respect to what you could get back in the late 1970s.
Kinda cool, but people should know about G&L, Leo Fender's last company where he made his best designs, like the L2000, the L1000 and the Megaton. They blow EBMM away, and for less money. Demo an L2000 with its amazing preamp, and people will love it!
How did you get the natural as it was an online only available bass. I ordered the vintage sunburst at Thomann on the 8 of april, will receive it later in the year
Hey man I had my own 78 with me and compared the three basses before we started filming. Initially I liked Gregor’s and my old Stingrays better as they sounded played in, but the new bass grew on me. In the end all 3 basses are awesome. They range from Bernard Edward’s Chic style rather vintage- ish tones to Rage Against the Machine, they all do what you want them to.
Last time Grigor mentioned Freedom Kilos, a guy came along and just exploded with indignation, and within three comments he was lecturing us all about world domination and the rest of us learning to know when we are subjugated 😂. Hope he comes back, it was hilarious!
Music Man is on a downward slope for many years now. Soon, not many will be left to pay their insane asking prices. These have been skyrocketing for years now and the avarage Joe (me) just cannot understand why. Sterling by Musicman is hardly an alternative. So goodbye Big Poppa and EBMM. It was a nice for a while.
My first MM looks exactly the same as that new one. I bought it off the wall, $500 brand new. 1981. Still holds up. Mainly use my MM 5 strings on gigs. My Orange one sounds better than my blur/spare…. Plus I have also a Fretless MM Stingray 5. Awesome basses. On ALL Styles of music.
@@basstheworldofficial my experience is with Darkglass and sansamp and my stingray sounds better through them than my other basses. In fact it was this going through a compressor first then out to a markbass rig that got me several compliments on my tone playing out. No one ever complimented my p j bass tone through the same rig.

It sounds nasty. In a good way of course. I bought a sandberg California central a couple months back (Which cost me less than half of the stingray price) and frequently get the question if it sounds like a stingray. I mean, I guess? Would you wonderful people be able to make a tone comparison video? Thx. Groove on.
"AIRCRAFT CARRIERS OF THE BASS WORLD" woah that statement blew me away! I don't have much seat time with a stingray but i am going to need to track one down ASAP after that claim!
Lovely looking and sounding, I would imagine Lovely playing too but unless they do something about their prices they're going to find themselves being undercut by one of the big bang for buck budget brands. People care less about what's written on the headstock than VFM. Pay attention Music Man or ignore at your own peril
So is the g-string still perilously close to the edge of the fretboard? I had a stingray five and I had to sell it because I kept pulling the g string off the fretboard because it's just right there on the edge
This model can NOT have this kind of problem because: 1) this series has 4 strings models only, your problem can exist with 5 strings models only 2) it's a 70 vintage model, your problem existed with the old 5 string Special models. In general, you can see before buying if you will have that problem looking to the G string on the pics on the websites (if it's too close to the egde)
CBS Fender implemented the neck tilt feature sloppily/inconsistently but I never had a problem with the three bolt design on original Musicman or G&L basses.
Please we need the tabs for the slap bass part at 4:57 I wonder what's the point of a 3 bolt attachment? How is it better than a 4 bolt one? The prices are absolutely ridiculous anyway, I wonder what their margins are.
@@basstheworldofficial but is the neck body connection not in fact actually worse than a stiffer and more solid 4 bolt attachment? Music Man must have switched to the latter one for a reason. And what about the tabs? Those cool little bass tracks surely are not impovised but written down. Tabs for them would definitely make the channel more popular.
Got a 1998 StingRay last month, amazing instrument, and I love it. But their G-Strings are weak, which I can't get to fix even with optimal pickup height. Even using .50 gauge Strings doesn't change the fact that the G-String lacks low end... and I can hear that in the demos done in this video as well.
@@nickpicc Yeah I tried several of those and they are great, but the price is also great :DD Got mine for 1750€ in prestine condition, and the cheapest SR special goes for 3300€
@@ThatOtherAndi I hear you. I got a great deal on a new old stock one a couple years ago, paid $1600 which I still can't believe. Still my favorite bass but the new price is high for sure

Dear Lord! That tone right from the beginning. Wow!
As usual, nice bass, but way over-priced.
I'm actually wondering how do they still sell instruments, crazy prices

I recently got into cycling and I now find bass gear stuff MUCH MUCH better value than before, including this bass.
Get a Sire z7, they sound 👍😃

How'd you get that distortion sound? It's epic!

It's hard to find G&L dealers in Europe and when you do, they barely stock any basses
There's something about the Stingray's growl that just beats every other bass IMO. How does this new model differ from the Stingray Classic?
How did you get the natural as it was an online only available bass. I ordered the vintage sunburst at Thomann on the 8 of april, will receive it later in the year
Music Man sent me the bass
Yeaaahhh ❤❤❤❤
😍
Don't remember any slapping in '77 when I bought mine. Why do people buy old basses and slap them? Buy a new one.
This is a new bass
Aunque soy más de Warwick no me importaría que me lo regalaran 😊
Wrong t-shirt 😉
My 79' Pre EB hangs on the wall, it's too heavy ........ it's yours at the right price.
I would really like to hear if there is a difference in the tone of the original and the new one. Too bad you didn't make a comparison.
It's a real shame that you didn't compare the original and the new replica when you already had the chance. Hardly anyone will be able to do that...
Wow 3666 Euros 😭
What does Kai say regarding the differences between the old one he bought and the new one?

I would love a direct comparison with the original '78, if possibile with the same strings! that would be amazing thx

Chris Benoit riff?
Reign Supreme!
Great playing… doing it justice!
The wood of the body is amazing
Always loved the sound & feel but I can't handle the heft anymore....
Your back must be aging like mine. I'm very glad that newer gear is getting lighter.
Mine weighs right around 9 lbs, or about the weight of a usual jazz bass. I've seen some very light Stingray Specials though.
I have a 2008 SR5 HH that weighs 11 pounds! I don't play it live very often anymore because of the weight and my aging back.
The Stingray EX (MIJ w/USA hardware) is a lighter and cheaper option if you find one.
Buy a stingray special. I have one that weighs 8.7 lbs.
Frank should be in all videos
Especially on Mr Beasts channel!
