To me it came as a surprise to hear you recommend this race. During the race I hear a lot of complaining, especially about the climbs. I think you both will probably have more fun participating in a half marathon (21K) on flat terrain!
Ultras are in almost all cases Type 2 fun. This race is the most difficult race I've ever done. I used to run fast flat marathons / halfs, but switched to ultra mountain running a few years ago. A race isn't worth doing unless it challenges you in some way. This race challenged us mentally and physically, hence why we recommend it.
its great scenery almost anywhere at WHistler but it doesn't look like either of you enjoyed the race!? obviously, training for it would help but if you are totally trashed after 25K, maybe your expectations are a bit unrealistic..
We did enjoy it quite a lot and trained relatively well considering the area we live in. Gary's race's are always incredibly difficult and we like to show the lows as well as the highs. If you recall the end of the video says it was "Awesome and worth it." Challenging yourself is what makes ultras so worthwhile. Our expectations were exactly what we signed up for.

We got the Airstream fixed by a guy in Eugene, OR. He did tremendous work and really helped us out for a great price too!
