This was the best time of my life when my dad and grand dad took me there. My Dad knew Tommy from South Side Speedway.. Miss the way Richmond was.

And now Southside Speedway is just a memory also!

NASCAR needs a track like this to return to the schedule. North Wilkesboro would be perfect. It needs remodeling and repaving but it's perfect. I loved going to the race there back in the day.

I had to finally abandon NASCAR about 10 or 12 years ago. So glad to have some of these old races 🏁 to watch.
Even a lot of the small tracks around the country are getting it together and doing decent broadcasts of current races. I really enjoy watching super stocks, and late model modifieds.
Its great to have some options for good racing. NASCAR has become intolerable... I tried to stick with truck racing for a while, but even that is crap now.

Correction: This race was actually run on February 25 (the day before the springtime Cup race), not September 25 (Richmond's fall Busch Series race was run on September 8 in 1984).

The “spring” races at Richmond were more like a late winter race at Richmond. I can remember races being snowed out. And seeing snow flakes while watching a race there in the 90’s.

Wow the Busch cars were super fast

And all the tow rigs were box trucks and open trailers! The good old days!

Back before the name Dale Earnhardt meant anything! These were great times! And like they said, a lot of these cars were built from the ground up by the same guy that’s driving it! Most of the children racing today have never even washed a windshield!

Dale already had a championship in 1980. But he had not gotten established yet with Childress. He wouldn't win another one until 1986 and then 1987 happened. Earnhardt would yank the top driver mantle from Darrell Waltrip around '86.

Ask them though, and they'll tell you they "pulled themselves up by their bootstraps."

In this era the Cup drivers struggled to beat the Busch regulars on short tracks. Earnhardt was good but the guys he was racing were the all time greats in this type of racing.

Do you have more NASCAR Busch Series races from 1980s?...

  • @gothard5

So, why exactly was Sam Ard listed as out of the race after that first big crash? They showed him in the lead right after that.

This is the spring race, unless they didn't air this race until the fall
