      Unlikely to do the first, never watched the show. I sold my copy of fury just before i started the channel.

      I liked it, now that comes with some caveats. I love defenders of the last stand that its based on. Also, i only got the demo box that has 1 archvillain and 1 scenario, so its not enough to fully judge the final game. But for a introduction mode, it seemed good to me

    Sentinels is probably my most played game, even though it's incredibly fiddly and other games have similar mechanisms that are smoother. There's just something about being a hero on a team where everyone is incredibly unique in what they do. Plus, when you look past the numbers and mechanisms, and envision the actual attacks being made by the heroes, villain and environment, the experience feels more thematic and immersive. I honestly have hundreds of plays on this as well. Glad you did this video!
    PS, Part of the big reason I play Sentinels and why it's my most played game is the community made content. Specifically The Cauldron and various balance changes haha.

    It's not Marvel or DC, but I like how it takes established superhero archetypes from both and puts its own spin on them. Legacy is Superman, Tachyon is Flash, Wraith is Batman, etc. Bunker is basically Iron Man. Absolute Zero is basically Mr. Freeze but a hero. Ra is basically Thor but with Egyptian mythology and sun powers. And so on.

      One of my all time fav gaming experiences is the MMO City of Heroes. I love creating new and fun heroes. But DC and Marvel just suck all the oxygen out of the genre

    • @3MBG

      Because they are a duopoly that control super heroes and very little else gets to shine. I don't hate them, i just like seeing more than 2 creators in a field.

    I went in with a secondhand copy and picked up some extra decks cheaply. However after a few plays with one of our kids we just found the upkeep and calculation totally got in the way of the fun. We flipped the whole lot at our local group auction.
    The original heroes and villains are great but we have found that Marvel Champions just plays smoother with little upkeep. I think there is something to be said for not grinding a superhero game to a halt with maths and complicated stacked effects.

      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, in Sentinels half your deck won't be generic cards. They are all prebuilt, but they are all character specific. Which means some characters like Nightmist or the Agent Adept legitimately work totally different to others.

    How much have i played Sentinels? Far far too much. On the app I just finished the challenge of defeating all the villains, from every expansion on Advanced. Considering if trying to defeat them on expert would do my head in. So, i'd say several hundreds of games. In person games though, probably only about 10. And that's because the app is so much easier for soloing.

    • @jonathanpickles2946
      @jonathanpickles2946 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The app was weird. It made some things very easy but others were a nightmare and could take ages to resolve. I play Matriarch (IIRC - crow lady) with Unity and got the redirect bot in play (Stealth bot?). Live you could see it would absorb all the damage from the birds but the app took ages to have each point of damage redirected then cancelled!
      I feel there was a sweet spot with the villains too. The very early one had effects that were too gross to really be fun, like Aurora, while the last ones were too fiddly with chains of triggers. The mini villains where you play one per player were a huge chore in live solo too but ideal in coop. All told it's a favourite of mine.
      Freedom 5 looked a bit too much like Pandemic to excite me during the KS.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, there are some chain effects where the PC version wants to show everything instead of just going "wait, thats no damage at all"
      Not a fan of the 3 on 3 team mode, or Oblivean modes

    • @arenson9
      @arenson9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@3MBG The Vengeance expansion wasn't well enough balanced, in my opinion. The team villains that came out with the Villains expansion did a better job of making the team villain mode enjoyable. Unfortunately, I'm with you on OblivAeon, though I think that if I learned the scions, the mission/rewards, and the cards in the OblivAeon, Scion, and Aeon decks well enough than I would know enough to enjoy the epic boss battle rather than being overwhelmed by complexity.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never finished an Oblievean game, i just get overwhelmed and cant quite get it.

    • @lp9092
      @lp9092 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3MBG for me (and I am in no way an expert) oblivaeon is mainly about 3 things... 1) avoiding Oblivaeon at all costs by staying in the other enviro until you can take out his shield and make him flip forms, while 2) doing as many mission objectives and piling up rewards as fast as each character can (rewards are insanely powerful), and staying alive by 3), mitigating damage en masse at the right time (ie. haka, tacheon, dr medico, legacy, and the reward “brothers sacrifice”). These can make or break your game. Oh, and then there’s also some luck needed. While being in the other environment I have found it is important to take out the aeon men as they give Oblivaeon boosts when HE kills them, and take out the scions (who all require a different strategy to do so). I have lost more than won, but man i LOVE the mission objective mechanic (that should be in the regular game). Plus it is super rewarding to jump back to Oblivaeon’s environment and dish him 100 damage in a round. I haven’t played it enough to know what combos work so I have just been running mostly damage mitigation heroes I mentioned above, and use argent adept for extra plays and boosts. Took 5 hours for my first victory. But it was epic! Hope you can find time for yours. :)

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haka is a the Maori character in Sentinels. He's also "the savage', "punishes the weak" and has a back story that is really bizarre if you know anything about Maori culture. I'm trying to act as a go between with some Maori designers and the designer of Sentinels to make him less inaccurate and weird in later editions. It's hard to describe, but he's just "not right".

    I agree on the Marvel DC point but the fiddly trickle of damage, healing, modifier, etc just felt too much like a series of arithmetic. As a coop it really doesn’t sing for me, very alpha gamey. As a solo app experience I could imagine that sanding down these negatives for me though 🙂

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alpha gaming is a social problem. We never have alpha gaming issues with it. Marvel Champions i on our test table at the moment, one reason i covered Sentinels now

    • @AhJong0
      @AhJong0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@3MBG ah sorry, you’re quite right I must be using the term to mean something different. I suppose there’s Alpha Gaming “You will do this on your turn.” and then there’s contributing on everyone’s turn.
      In theory there’s nothing wrong with the latter, as that’s the nature of coops, and in my favourite coops (that don’t have some sort of key information heavily obfuscated to prevent exactly this) such as Spirit Island you will need everyone’s input as there’s plenty of puzzle to go round. Also the simultaneous nature of turns means you have your own things to look at before you can think about others.
      In regular turn based coops, such as SotM, Pandemic, Ghost Stories (which I really enjoy) your turn can have a suggestion proffered by someone else at the table and then you do that. I don’t have an issue with that on my go, but I know there are folks who find others providing The Answer on their turns to rob them of agency.
      Lol this is the sort of point that explaining in person would be so much easier than a TH-cam comment - hopefully something I’ve said made sense 😆

    I hear this game is fiddly AF but I wonder how complex the rules are, especially because there is a digital app.
    Games whose roles are complex make bad candidates for just going straight to digital and not picking up the physical version first.

    • @3MBG

      Core rules are reasonably simple, its all the card play that is where it gets fiddly, when you have multiple effects targeting multiple things at once.
