As good as you are on a MTB I'm sure everyone would agree that you don't need the front flip anymore. Your health is so much more important. Watching your tail whips and 360s is so fluid and a joy to watch. Game of B.I.K.E with Sam or Jack would be ace. Also your urban freeriding videos are heads and shoulders my favourite on your channel. Keep it up Tom 🤙🏻
I like that Tom.. injuries do heal mental blocks scar! I have had a lot of time out of riding dew to unforeseen cerium stances but my time spent out on my bike is not wasted it’s just grate to be on a bike riding. No matter how small I fell off my bmx before covid but I’m ok but mental blocks remain as scars Sick vlogg dude like the tool box talk about recovery and accidents I do remember that crash ouch
So, so pleased you are back to 100% physical condition but in fairness, its been pretty evident on recent videos... its also super good to see you working back towards the front flip - I can only imagine how scary it is for you but at the same time, this has been bugging you since it happened!! Keep up the good work mate - a true inspiration and absolitely the best vids on TH-cam!!!
Amazing start with the journal on your past experience on the crash, which is in my view is an eye opener to all to be aware of the danger of the sport we are into. The session with Jack was amazing.... Enjoyed every bit of it..... Thanks Tom !!!!! Ride Safe!!!!!!
currently healing from a fractured scaphoid, surgery and all that. This video helps me a lot to visualise what getting back on the bike would be like. Thanks
I'm pleased to see you tackling those crash demons.. Your doing great. I honestly know how it feels, it's hard to understand if you've not had it before. Get over to Corby. I look forward to seeing more progress when / if your ready. Take your time.
I broke 3 collarbones and a pinky biking in the last year. Getting back into it mentally has been really challenging. I really appreciate you sharing your mindset and opinions. Keep it up 🤘
Thanks for the video. Currently I am recovering from a shattered heel bone. Do to a mountainbike jumps gone wrong. Now a metal plate and 9 screws further I am building op the bike riding again. And to be honest it's scary as hell to get on the bike. So thanks for the honesty and the tips!!! And good to see your progress
Awesome video. I had my worse injury ever 6 weeks ago. Im 48 years old, I have always had skateboards, BMX, Inline skates, and mountain bikes. I even had my own indoor skatepark as a business between 2000 and 2007, also MCing up and down the country for variuous events Including NASS 6 weeks ago we went to hit the local trails, we left full face helmets in car as we went for a warm up ride, my front wheel washed out pumelling my face into a rock. I have broken a lot of bones over the 36 years I have been actively involved in extreme sports, but facial bones, like internal injuries, are next level. I now have a titanium orbit, eyesocket lining, cheek bone, and metal lates in uper and lower jaw. Cerebral fluid leaking from your eye isnt the one !!!🤣 I am getting on my bike again next week and hitting twisted Oaks or Northampton bike park if its open by then. I will be wearing a full face everytime i go off the beaten track now. 36 years of not hitting my face like I have recently, so the chcances of it happening again are slim-to-none, but im not taking the risk. Good to see your recovery, its inspirational, injuries are grounding and I feel make us more concienscious riders. We like to think we are indestructable sometimes, but when you stand back and take a look, what we do is mental !!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Keep shredding Tom !!!!!!😎😎😎
Man a machine firing on all cylinders again keep moving forwards in life that’s the key but also no your limitations and build on that well done Tom 😁👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this video, think you've touched on some really good points here. It is nice to hear it from this perspective. Glad to hear you've recovered well. Loved the continuity of the whole video! Smashed that front flip!
Nice video Tom it’s so great to see you are out there riding your bike again. I thought after you had that big accident last year you might of change your stile of riding but no it never did keep up the fantastic work Tom . All ways looking forward to watching your next video
That was a hard hit Tom, I'm surprised you were able to psychologically do it all again, that is jumps, flipping etc. Glade your back strong. Of course keep Kara safe! You two are awesome.
A work related injury resulted in a ruptured disk, followed by L 4-5 to S1 fusion. That put me off pedals for almost 5 years, I am in my second season of finally riding again, and in the process of restoring a couple of my old frame sets.
Hey Tom. I broke my collar bone back in April. I slowly built up my confidence doing road rides at first. Then a mix of gravel and road. Then eventually last weekend payed a visit to one of my favorite bike parks here in Cape Town. And the shoulder was totally fine, but I was so sketched out. I thought I would just listen to my body. But I was so scared of slamming and maybe causing some more damage to a slightly less perfect shoulder. So I guess hitting them more often would build the confidence back up. But for now I am cautious.
Glad your ok. Really big one so glad things recovered well. Ngl I had a rough year. Collarbone then double jaw surgery then broken back. I’ve not recovered but don’t need to. I’m not pro and cant do that again without consequences so happy shifting towards a filming/photography position. Still got stuff I’m comfortable on but not looking at progress rather enjoying what I can do. Might change but for now that’s where I am.
I fractured my wrist in July. It might have been a simple fracture as one reads over this but it was really something for me having to avoid lifting weight and babying my injury. Loss of weight and muscle really got to me. Recovery is just that but it’s definitely a hit on ones confidence and abilities for sure.
Very honest video, I’ve watched your recovery and happy to see your taking your time and not pressuring yourself. I’ve only been riding for just over 2 years, ride motox for years but not mtb and specifically riding an ebike. I’ve gone from looking at small drops and being scared to now being able to complete a470 line at bike park wales with a bit of steeze and whips and I’ll be looking at enter the dragon next. I’ve brokeen 2 ribs, a foot, couple of helmets and just last weekend broke my finger lol
that mulch jump is the best jump for progression and i was there and i thought that you helped my dad with the convosation you had with him . and i'm please to know you made a full recovery. and to every one who is seeing this go sub to tom as he is amazing
I am just happy doing small jumps and bombing around, seeing you hitting the big stuff and even the foam pit front flips Tom, after the crash, it's totally awesome! Like you said, take your time, after all you are riding to have fun! I just ride because I want to have fun too!
Tom, you've got nothing to prove. Your up there with best riders in mountain biking to date. Don't let peer pressure get to you. On another note, the colour grading and video quality on this vid, looks great? What's changed?
Broke my femur bone 3 weeks ago. Can't wait to get back on my bike again but won't be back to normal for a while. The thought of riding steep rocky rooty tech again does make me nervous 😬
Hi Tom, Two months ago I got injured & broke my right clavicle. At one of the trail ramps I used to jump with, I went too high up in the air, which led me to not be able to manage controlling my bike handle bar. I ended up landing on the ground first on my right arm and broke my right collar bone or clavicle. I believed your advised would really help a lot for me and to any MTB riders. There’s no need to hurry back on your bike if your not completely recovered from injury, whether it’s take a year as long as to build up confidence for physically and mentally. 🙏🤘👍
I had a very bad crash 23 years this month that put me in coma. Infact I was still in coma at this point back in 1999. I do agree in that the mental game is very hard to get by. I was finally starting to get back to my previous level of racing bmx and had another crash. It was no where as bad but mentally it did damage.
As a kid I used to jump on trampolines a lot, and I got good at judging rotation on flips. I'm sure it's the same for doing them on jumps, but more is at stake for landing. As an adult, I get so motion sick from flips or rotations. It's kind of a bummer. It's a been a whole year! That's pretty awesome. Time flew by this year.
Tom, thanks for this one. While very, very different I do take a bit of inspiration in your story as I work through my own. I've got a blood disorder that's tried to kill me twice and last fall (almost a year, september in fact) it struck its last blow and I went hypoxic (not enough oxygen) for a bit and it affected my brain. I can't process fast changes in direction so turning and jumping have been a challenge. Turning came back pretty quickly but jumping....well, 40 years (yeah, I'm an old guy been doing it for a looooonnnng time) of instinct are down the drain and I'm basically learning how to jump again. It's double scary because I went from jumping anything and everything I pointed myself toward on instinct to not trusting my timing on even medium jumps. It's getting there, and I have my good days but I'm still struggling with feeling natural and confident. Cheers to you!!
Breaking my hip and being away from the bike for over a year ruined cycling for me. Could never get back to where i wanted to be. I miss riding so much though but i dont think I'll ever be where i was again. Saddening. Glad you're back
Hips a terrible one, got surgery on my hip 3 weeks ago after waiting a year and a half for surgery because of covid. 2 weeks after hip surgery broke my fibia and messed up my ankle. Got a plate and pins on my fib and ankle reconstructed. Not sure what the future holds now 🤔
@@Ginnnty38 dude..... I feel you. I fractured my pelvis before I broke my hip, but I really think it was pelvis that made my hip weak In the first place. Now it never feels right. But honestly, I'd say to you keep going, keep riding. I grew out of love for riding on top of the injury. I wish a Speedy recovery for you.
I’m glad you are okay, Tom. One of my friends had exactly same injury and he spent two months in a hospital. But he too got well and bent my bike’s frame the first time we went out for a ride in yet another crash lol 😅 Stay safe 👍 Upd. NICE DRESS!!😂
Hi Tom, The other big problem with being injured is financial, I smashed myself up pretty bad and couldn't work for a whole year my limited savings disappeared in the first couple of months so i started selling stuff , All the bikes went along with a lot of other things , At this point I decided to signed on for unemployment benefit which I should have done the day i came out of hospital , with my mortgage payments on hold and council tax paid for it took of some of the pressure but i was still struggling financially so I applied for a credit card and just used it for bills and food ect My biggest regret was selling the bikes, Its bad enough being injured but with nothing to look forward to its very depressing and there hard to replace when you get back to work and your paying of the accumulated dept. glad your getting back to full fitness , We ride bikes and this goes with the territory unfortunately
When mtbing first got going with the masses, extensive body armour was all the rage. Now its dropped off, you and karla rarely wear much body protection like everyone else. Do you think it could have protected your spleen, or does it makes the tricks less safe to perform.
Thank you so much for that Tom. I'm sitting at home with a S5 compression fracture in my back from a car crash. Staying off the bike has been recommend and it's hard when the weather has been so good but your totally right to take time to recover and build back slowly! Keep up the good content bru. ✌️
Tom it's great to see your face. You look really wise, mercilessly. It suits you. Hi to you're Bro. Good to see you. How's everything? How does a person get into the business, you know I know what time it is... Get Money time. Cards I'm glad you never hurt your spleen much. Kara being a Nurse and everything would be moody if you lost it. Isn't the spleen an organ of truth in Chi Gong. Perhaps you were meant to be one of the world's biggest lier;) Just Effing with you Tom. No look there's something about this film... the, you repeating that trick what must have shook you up, is an amazingly courageous thing to do.
